Trap Potency Question
Bump, I would also like to know the answer to this question.
Trap duration and condition applied by trap duration are 2 different things. Traps apply damage in two ways.
1. Per pulse – several times during the trap duration ( can crit )
2. Conditions – on top of those pulses they apply conditions ( burning, poison, bleed, freezing ).
This trait affects point 2 you can test it on the golems in the mists.
drop a spike trap without the trait and see how long the bleeds last → repeat with the trait
Tested it with Fire Trap ….watched the mob icon. Lasted 3 seconds. In the combat window I get damage 3x ….and in burn box icon on mob it lasted 3 seconds.
Still don’t understand.

Tested = no difference traited vs non traited.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of my traps do any crit damage. I’m glad someone brought this up because I’ve always wondered if this was bugged but no one spoke much on it. I thought, well maybe it’s just me.
It’s probably just an animation glitch.
Well Im pretty confident we are the most bugged class atm.
I am glad someone else has responded. I am very new to the game so thought maybe I was missing something so obvious when testing. I am surprised after reading many Rangers promoting a trap build and how well it works. I guess it wil work better when this trait works !

That trait definitely used to work. If it no longer is……..
I recall someone complaing about certain functions being moved to the 20 point talent, that makes them larger and ranged. Are you testing in conjunction with that talent active?

A whittling ranger becomes viable by forcing his opponent to whittle
Yes, traps both ranged and bigger area + longer duration trait.
Haven’t tested it in a while it did use to work.
Results:
1. Condition duration – even tho the tooltip doesn’t change it does work.
Went to a golem put down a spike trap, did twice as much dmg with the trait on.
2. Traps critting:
a. Spike – possible to crit only on first hit ( activation ), no consecutive crits since it doesn’t pulse
c. Fiper’s nest – possible to crit on activation and on each pulse.
d. Bonfire – not a trap but behaves the same way as flame trap. Works with offhand training.
3. Crits are calculated individually per target
4. Trap crits work with:
a. Sigils ( pretty much all on crit )
– sigil of fire
– sigil of earth
– sigil of air
– sigil of frailty
– sigil of strength
– sigil of ice
– probably the 2 healing sigils. could not test that on golems.
They seem to trigger on only 1 target at a time.
– Companions might
- Sharpened edges

Spike/Viper worked. Time was extended by 2x on the secondary poison/bleed.
Flame trap didn’t change.

FLame trap is working right for me.
Definitely ticking 3 times unimproved and 6 improved.
