Trap ranger is still great fun
I still think that removing throwable traps was unnecessary.
Trap Ranger in WvW is actually pretty overpowered with trapper runes.

Thats just silly. A trapper ranger cannot fit a stun break into their build usually (unless they sac a trap). If they trait for traps/condi dam, they sacrifice condi clear and vice versa. Not to mention their pets are next to useless in a zerg in wvw.
They are decent, but no where near OP. When i’m roaming on mine, I can hold my own on 1v1 depending on who i’m fighting. But its no where near as ‘OP’ as my mesmer roaming. In a small havoc squad I can add to the team. In a large zerg he’s borderline useless.

Agreed…not OP but they are fun.
I wouldn`t say op either, but if you can catch anyone off guard (and not in a zerg) they will most certainly die a quick death. In that aspect I think it`s very strong. It`s mostly just fun to see them die after stepping on a stack of traps though.
Well, traps are now just that.
Traps.
Maybe they are not as powerful as they used to, but for point holding it’s golden against certain classes. Rangers and Mesmers have easy time exploiting them, though.
Other classes sacrifice all of their CDs for it, but that’s usually all they need to win.
Traps are also useful in premades. Trap ranger can easily blow a point upside down if he gets the chance (with an Ele or Engie who help them survive). I’ve seen a duo who constantly kept occupying points and rotating like this.
They usually won 2v3s.

It’s not OP but it’s a troll build, like condi mesmer, useless outside the baddies. There is no fun to kill them.

It’s definitely got its strengths, but in a zerg it’s… yeah, just another body really. Zerg vs zerg it’s hard to do anything much. I’ve typically had my best moments trying to hold/take capture points (hard to avoid traps in that situation) or in small groups.
Although the very most memorable moment was against a mesmer who was wandering around inside an outer keep… when he was under pressure he’d drop a portal exit, stealth, escape, and portal back in. The second time I saw him do that (when he already would have known I’m running traps…???) I dropped a stack of traps and a bonfire on the portal… and he came back in anyway!
Stealthed, though. I thought it hadn’t worked until I saw him appear on some stairs about 900 range away… already downed. Was all but over then.

I usually run settlers in pvp with healing spring, burning trap and spike trap. Along with survival cleanses in the third slot and the elite. Healing trap is insanely amazing even without healing power or the trap trait but with both of those i just don’t die inside of it. Weapons with sword/torch and axe/dagger. Lots of staying power, lots of evades, plenty of cleanses and sustain and loads of low cooldown condition damage.
Just depends on where you use the traps. My opinion and I’ve said it before, is that they are OP. But my opinion isn’t something that I’m going to push on anyone else, just how I feel about it based on my play style within WvW.
Borderland maps have so many choke points that traps can turn any fight into your favor even when out numbered. Since most players, on average, heck even 90th percentile, continue to chase and/or push for the kill traps always will get them in the end. Duck around a step, drop a trap, engage, rinse, repeat. Hop off ledge, run around wall, up stairs, drop trap, punt off ledge to their death, rinse repeat. I can’t count how many times, every day, even after facing the same tier group for 5 weeks now, this works.
Honestly speaking, I love it when the master of ruin daily pops up, always means good times to be had. Also traps can and do work within small group play and add value. Flipping NPC’s such as dredge again with control points in the hallways – traps have strong success when facing greater numbers.
So maybe not OP, but they sure in the heck are great fun and work wonders in the BL map area or other choke point areas. And I for one am looking towards the new map in which case they look even more promising.
