Hey all
so i know what works in PvP but as far as WvW goes i wanted to get some insight on what people run in WvW as far as condi builds go.

The two builds that i am interested in are…

1. The Stealth Trapper Build

2. The Survival of the Fittest ST AD build

I am mostly going to be solo roaming or running with a small group. I know that value of stealth when roaming (i also run a thief), but i know the trapper build has little stun break. I am leaning toward Survival build but if it isnt viable in WvW i dont want to bother. Any advice would be appreciated

For a 1v1 situation I think a survival build is better. You have stun breakers, control over your condition removal and most likely better stats as well. It’s just much more survivable in a 1v1.

That said, traps obviously give you a much stronger presence in a group fight, and stealth as a defensive mechanic scales well into small scale fights by keeping you from being the primary target.

Really either would work. I’ve used both and know they both work, but like I said, I think the Survival build is a more solo build and a Trap build is more group orientated, even though both work in either situation. Traps are much more fun though

I prefer survival, but i’m not a huge fan of condi builds. I’d think trapper would be a bit better with condi in mind, but i could be wrong

Don’t pick one…go hybrid.

I run a survival build and my friend runs a trapper build, so I get to see the pros and cons quite a bit. I think they are both equally lethal at taking down opps. The difference boils down to taste IMO. The trapper build is way more slippery, but is a bit weak on condi removal and stun breaks. The SotF build is more robust w/ lots of condi removal, more stun breakers and even Nature’s Protection / Evasive Purity. Pets are more survivable, too, b/c they suck up less condis and Fortifying Bond makes a difference. SotF builds can win a few fights the trapper struggles with. But in an overrun situation, I end up roadkill while my friend often slips away.
Which is more fun/your style?

One thing to consider if you’re coming from a thief perspective is that the trapper runes not only give you a little stealth, they give you a little burst of speed. I don’t think either of them are really close to what you have on a thief, but I think you may like the in-combat mobility.

I record video fairly often (mostly to share with friends). All the recent ones here are trapper condi WvW roaming. A bunch of the ones where I’m with another person are with a survival ranger build, so you can see a little bit of both in those.

TY for all the replies everyone. I can see how the stealth of trapper is super valuable when a large blob comes rolling through. I do really like the survival utility skill. I havnt ever been very good with ground targeting skills….maybe it is time to get better. please tell me, is it possible to run a trapper hybrid? Like this ….

You’re essentially giving up 500 armor for 500 attack. I don’t think the tradeoff is worth it. Your sword 1 and axe 1 hit a little bit harder, but power builds will hit you a lot harder. Trapper builds already hit pretty hard, add rabid instead of sinister if you want to go that route.
