Is this thread a joke thread? Because I’m laughing too hard at the TC’s statement that trap rangers are OP. The only times I kill a thief 1v1 as a trap ranger is when I’m getting lucky with the criticals or I’m evading at the right times to avoid the full brunt of their attacks. Even then, it usually comes down to the two of us in downed state, meaning it’s a fight that’s too close to call.

Ranger are supposed to be bad. If they can beat anyone, something must be wrong and gotta be fixed
not whining but having a discussion, i play on few classes and build, condition build thief, condition build necro, dd ele, and burst shatter mesmer, none of them stood a chance
How can you possibly lose to a trap ranger with a condition necro? Necros eat trapper rangers for breakfast, you can run through traps and throw the conditions right back in our face with staff 4, dagger 4, and Plague Signet, not to mention all the standard condition wipes necros have access to. Any class with decent condition wiping can shrug off traps, but necros can actually use them against the ranger. This isn’t a specific counter-build either, we’re talking basic weapon skills on the two most common necro weapons. Mesmer and Ele should also have a fairly easy time, it’s only thieves that hate trapper rangers because they can’t get in for the easy-mode backstab without taking damage.

i agree with Java from this video(0:48:08 into it). its not that trap ranger is over powered its just they haven’t been around very long. so not everyone knows the counters yet.

Yea. (50:42) Java also says “we’re not using them [trap rangers] not because its strong, but it was what we felt like playing.” “The fact that other teams adopted this 2 [trap] ranger strategy, but we haven’t had a counter against it… BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO NEED TO BE COUNTERED”

That was a massive lol for me as well.
A good bunker ele will not be beaten by a thief either due to their insane healing and condition removal. Eles also have excellent mobility and CC, so they can also easily get away if needed.
Really you just listed 2 classes that should have very little problem killing a ranger and are considered the most OP duelers in the game… I don’t mean to be nasty but I think an L2P is in order.
not true, with trapper you can break every bunker thats a reason why are so strong, but not op. i need some time but 1on1 you can kill every bunker with a trapper when you got the same skill. ele get it easier vs trapper cause they got more condi removes than a guard or other classes, but after time even they will drop.
the trapper ranger big problem are cc/buster..100b worri is a bad exampel beacuse most of them a bit to obviously
but not glasscannon mesmer or pistel whip can be very dangeruos if you doge on time wrong or you have to much stuns, cause he got no stun breaker.
I said you shouldn’t be beating good thieves or eles. Sure trappers will kill glass cannons with ease, but intelligent thieves and eles who build for survivability will always have the upper hand as they can simply choose to run away if the going gets tough and basically reset the fight. Rangers don’t have that option.
Obviously someone who is stupid enough to keep running into your traps and standing there is going to die, but any class can beat another class if the other player is bad.

How getting hit while stealthed doesn’t break stealth will forever be beyond my rational mind.

1. Why? Confused on this, if you make em visible or invisible , doesnt matter… They will still do their job when you run over them.

If we’re grasping straws here, what about the ele , which has only one viable build that could be considered overpowered due to the stats they’re able to generate.
It seems like you got outplayed and you’re just complaining that they’re overpowered because you yourself haven’t found a counter to it yet. That’s all I see here…. In games like this you WILL meet people who are better than you , regardless of the build so that’s just something you’re going to have to get used to, bottom line.
Also to expand on my answer on #1… Traps are hardly used for damage as a priority… If you use them for that, then you need to rethink your class. Traps are meant for controlling people and where they go, not how much damage they do.
If the traps are visible, you’ll just know you need to either have one of 2 options, run through them , or run around them…. Either way you’re taking ranged damage anyway. That’s the point of the traps, so making them visible or invisible isn’t really something to kitten or complain about , it would just be another decision in your battle but you can avoid the traps, fine with me , just means you have to run around something else to get to me is all.

We’re gimped to the point where in terms of cookie-cutter builds for sPvP, we don’t really have “options” so much as we have maybe two builds (Trapper and BM Bunker) that are “viable”, and only one of which is capable of killing someone in a short amount of time if they stay.
As for traps being visible before they’re activated— well, they’re not traps anymore at that point, are they? What you’re asking for is akin to Thieves having red outlines around them when they’re stealthed or Mesmers having red outlines around them apart from their clones. You’re not asking for a nerf (i.e. traps do less damage), you’re asking for a breaking of a class mechanic/skill definition.

Traps don’t need to be visible. It is a balancing factor to make up for how few CC options rangers have. We shouldn’t have to gimp our class so that people who don’t want to build for any survival or condition counters have an easier time against us. Animations for a ranger throwing traps is obvious as well.
To all those snobby thieves (and any other class who used a similar argument to their high damage CC builds) who said “you can tell when a thief is about to backstab you, all you need to do is dodge,” rangers can now say: “it is obvious when a ranger is trying to walk you into traps or throw traps at you, all you have to do is avoid them and dodge them.”
I say, if rangers are FINALLY being regarded as somewhat viable and competitive, then good. Hopefully it draws some dev attention to the class to get some of the bugged mechanics, useless traits (all classes have both of these to an extent), and pet issues/quality of life examined.

I’ve gotten whispers from thieves in spvp that said they’re going to report me for cheating, since I beat them. Well of course, if a ranger beats a thief, there must be cheating involved, right?
I could post some hilarious screenshots, but I think I’ll just skip that!
What I find hilarious is that if we beat a thief in PvP, it’s not because we cheated, it’s usually because we got lucky or the opponent just sucks. There is no in between for a ranger.
Just for illustration purposes, think of the Ranger as being the Aquaman of the Justice League universe, while the Thief is something akin to Batman. So, when Aquaman finds one way to deal with a careless/inattentive Batman out of the water, while Batman can kitten even Superman up six ways to Sunday in general, in addition to virtually any of the other meta-humans being able to overpower him in every way that matters, it’s hard for him to feel bad or think Batman has a point about his highly situational, locational tactics as being “overpowered”. :T
sounds like OP is a thief who ran over a ranger trap and was so shocked that he actually took dmg that he assumed it was overpowered
I would have to disagree that “trap rangers r the most op class in this game and need some balance”. If anything thieves are the most OP class in this game by far and need a serious adjustment to their stealth.

I came across few trap rangers using shortbow, with sword and dagger in a condition build. I think they are abit overpowered with access to ccs by pets, very good condition damage with around 4/5 evades, + dodges and endurance regn if you have the right sigils.
AN said they will be nerfing dd eles which is understandable however if u lock an ele down or put a large amount of condition they will go down. however im yet 2 find a way around to beat the op trap rangers as i cant get close caz of traps, and if i do manage they have 2 many evades and dodges which means u cant even lock them on a place and even if u do they will just not take dmg. i think trap rangers r the most op class in this game and need some balance

I just want to echo this opinion because it’s something I’ve been thinking since day one.
“Nerf the trap rangers whose traps do OMG 4k total damage in about 8s so that I can walk around stealth, press one button, and do 7k damage, without anybody being able to break my stealth. That would make the game more balanced.”
I main ranger but I do have a thief I also pvp on, and I’m not sure why the thief community complains so much about rangers. The ability to constantly stealth and remove conditions is something almost every thief build has access to, and I personally run sword so I have a constant shadow step the removes conditions on my weapon set. As long as thieves don’t run pure glass cannon there is no reason why they have trouble, other than it being a factor of player skill.
Way to go, OP. You just highlighted one of our -passable- builds. Now it’ll surely be nerfed.
I’m ok if they made traps visible as long as they take out the trajectory streams that the arrows leave when shot….that seems fair, right?
It’s not OP.. it’s like, the only viable PvP spec at the moment :\ you take that away and we’ll be number 1 most useless class again in sPvP.
Traps are easy to avoid and conditions can be removed from literally every class.
I fight trap rangers by throwing my pet under the bus to take out the initial barrage of traps, then I dodge the obvious trap throw animation and continue to apply chill endlessly on the ranger as I whittle away his health with my axes, destroy his CDs with perma chill and destroy his dodging and damage with weakness, and if he tries to pet swap burst me I reflect it with WD. I see no problem with trap rangers, now chill rangers (like myself) are kitten holes…
