One of the Rangers problem atm is poor aoe dmg. While meta is about hard aoe none will take Ranger just beacuse others can do things twice better. Some might say you got traps… yeah… Personally I dont like trap builds because losing defensive utilities which arent that great either for traps just not make sense. Ofcours you will provide some aoe ,but in team fights evades from weapons will not be enough to keep you alive if you get focused. So my suggestion is: to reforge traps and make them as one utility just like engineers ‘bomb kit’ and so on.

EDIT: I see some replies by PvE players. I gave my idea to fix alteast a bit Rangers in PvP.

a ranger-scholar build would be interesting. since the philosophy of the ranger is semi-druidic, we could have druid rangers who use a staff. create a pure-support ranger who creates combo fields, and attacks similar to that of the Witch-doctor from DIII

I would feel strange playing a ranger with a staff to be honest lol. Unless this staff is a shepard-like staff.

Ranger Staff would be fine in general due to the whole druid angle, but it wouldn’t make sense with regards to traps. Ranger traps are actual physical traps, not magical in nature. A magic weapon launching physical traps would not really gel.

A trap-based Ranger weapon would have to be something that launches physical objects. A crossbow or something, perhaps.

i like my traps :-) Im a condition trapper. The dmg could be higher, but they DO support my team in dungeons. spike and chilled are awesome. flame too! Imo, rangers potential is actually in traps. What else can we contribute to a group? I say more dmg and higher range for traps. thay would be awesome!

Actually, some of you may not have played GW1, but one of the more popular Ranger condition builds was a trap-focused build that used a staff (because traps cost a lot of energy, and staves provided a large increase to your energy pool). I’d like to see it appear in GW2 as a ranged, or even melee, AoE condition weapon. It’d make a great compliment to the Longbow and Shortbow, I think.

It would be nice if the trap range was higher, like 900 or 1000 would be good. At 600 i have to pretty much run right next to the enemy to toss it ahead of them.
