Look up the word skirmishing. Then you’ll know why.

The same way they seemed to have made all of the Ranger decisions… closed their eyes, spun around real fast a couple times, then threw a dart at a board containing post it notes with random nonsense written on them.
It can work just fine where it is.. I’ve been playing almost exclusively trap builds for the last 4 months, from full rabid, full dire, dire apothecary mix to now a hybrid build (using every armour type under the sun to get the stats I want :P) and I can honestly say the hybrid build is the best. I have no concerns with where traps are in relation to trait lines.

Its OK if you also run bleed on crit.

Traps are meant to be slow preparation, mostly defensive objects. Skirmishes are quick and fast paced.
Traps deal virtually no direct damage. The skirmishing line benefits direct damage.
Don’t even try to deny the fact that traps are in the wrong treeline, even after A-net admitted it themselves.
Meh I am ok with where it is currently. Been playing traps build for some time. Don’t you screw up my build by asking changes regarding this.

I don’t think we need to worry about where our useful traits are; but rather what is going to be done about the hoard of unused, underperforming traits that currently plagues the class.

Have you seen how traps work in this game? They’re dropped quick, and used fast. They fight skirmishing. Also no, if you paid attention to how most of the conditions are applied by sigils and runes in this game, you’ll notice they all have one thing in common…they require criticals. They most likely set it up like this to provide synergy with that. And when the hell did Anet even admit that traps are in the wrong traitline? Link or you’re full of it.

Here’s your answer:
As I stated, this change is a lot about low hanging fruit. The problem with ranger is things that are good we don’t want to overpower and the things that are not as good are difficult to change. For example:
- Skirmish and Wilderness line could probably swap half of their traits.
- Beastmastery has basically one generic trait per tier and just needs to be more generalized.
- both primary ranged weapons are a mix of single target and AoE.
- Both marksmanship and skirmish lines lack traits to enable power rangers.
Despite those problems rangers have some great builds in PvE, PvP, and WvW. The core problem is diversity but it just so happens that rangers are not setup in a way that makes it easy to improve that diversity problem.
They should be in wilderness survival, but there’s no time to actually swap them.
I wish people would stop suggesting putting Traps into Wilderness Survival.
Not because it doesn’t make sense, but because the last thing we need is an entire build whose offensive traits directly compete with all of it’s defensive traits. Our absolute best defensive traits are all in Wilderness Survival.
It would literally outright kill the trap build since in order to use traps you would have to sacrifice the little defensive trait options the build currently has in order to make traps usable.
INSTEAD, traps should do better direct damage so that they can be used by power builds as well. It doesn’t help that Skirmishing really has zero useful trait options for power builds, but Marksmanship is overloaded with too many to use at once.
So really, the better question would be: why are ranger traitlines all so bad?

I mean seriously.. If they move traps to WS what then? Would trap rangers need to choose between EB and our GM trap trait? Because that sure as hell would screw us over…
Or maybe EB would be moved to Skirmishing, meaning trap rangers would not change because we’d still trait into both lines, except every other condition/bunker ranger would be ruined.
Good plan, well thought out.

Honestly , they should remove all traits that make utilities usable : trap master trait (who uses trap without it anyway ) , spirit adept trait ( a must have for spirit builds ) … etc . Most traits just seem like filler to me

Traits would need to swapped. The defensive stuff would just move and hopefully ANet would do it in a logical manner that would open up more build diversity and not narrow it. It’s not like they’ve move the traits and have 20 in one line and 4 in another.

You have way too much faith in them. What I’ve learned as a Ranger since I first joined in November of last year is that Anet will screw something up, usually without meaning to, and then take 1-2 months to fix it. I’d prefer if they didn’t bother trying to fix the traitlines right now, thank you. I don’t want Rangers completely destroyed.

Yeah, but then it brings it to exactly what Cufufalating said in terms of how many builds actually benefit from the current trait lineup in WS.
Honestly, it would be A LOT of work on ANets part, because there are a whole lot of traits that would need to be reworked and moved around. It’s just so much simpler to either make Traps a viable choice on Power builds, or make the Skirmishing Traits more interactive with power builds, since literally only Moment of Clarity does anything for power builds, and it doesn’t even do much that much good.
Skirmishing is just about the worst traitline in the game is all. It isn’t helping anybody to take the only good traits out of it and integrate them somewhere else, because then it forces some other spec to have to go into the same traitline that nobody wants to go into aside from it’s passive bonus, and that messes up other builds.
So I’m just suggesting that we buff skirmishing/traps is all, instead of nerfing our entire Wilderness Survival tree
