Unrealistic Weapon Confusion
I remember having read something about one of ANet’s goals being to allow players to play the “iconic” character types. Traditionally (DnD, most fantasy books) rangers have not used rifles. However, there are a few instances that they have picked up greatswords, the first to come to mind being Aragorn wielding Anduril in Tolkein’s books.

True, but it does seem out of character and as this game is suppose to be it’s own, rather than following a different game, it seems kinda unrealistic for the ranger, who’s main profession was all around ranged weaponry and out of close combat moments, to suddenly pick up a great sword with little strength, and play perfectly fine.
Ranger does not mean ranged weaponry. Ranger is not a purely ranged class.
Ranger
rangĀ·er [reyn-jer]
noun
1. forest ranger.
2. one of a body of armed guards who patrol a region.
3. a soldier specially trained in the techniques of guerrilla warfare, especially in jungle terrain.
4. a person who ranges or roves.
Rangers are rangers in the Aragorn sense, not the traditional MMO sense.
Go ahead and tell an Army Ranger they can’t use a knife.

I think that the Iconic Rangers has:
- A Quiver
- A Hood
- Long Mantles
What do we have?
- No Quiver!!
- Freaking Pirate gear!
A pirate using a bow.. what the hell?!
I came in this game with this expaction: http://cdn2.worldofminecraft.com/resize/remote/c522739b27c228f8f440d0da899d7484-238x495.gif (Imagine the kickass long mantles with it please :p)
And I came to the painfull conclusion that it is nothing like this. It seems that Rangers are like the most powerfull Magicians in the game. Shooting with magical arrows the whole time that appear from nowhere and looking like a random pirate..

Quiver would be nice as a back slot item. Pirates throughout history have used bows BTW. You are just thinking of pirates from gunpowder + times.

Hehe. That is true. But the medium pirate-like gear you get in the game is more based on the clothing pirates had in the gunpowder times which gave us the iconic pirate.

They can use bows which were originally created to kill animals.
But they can’t use Guns, which were originally created to kill people.
Gives rangers Rifles or GTFO.
End of discussion
I say:
Let them have some place for improvement for further expansions In Guild Wars 1 we got more skills with each chapter. I can totally see them bringing new skills for classes by allowing more weapons for them and by adding more weapons in general. Like… Two-handed Axes. Or Crossbows (twohanded and singlehanded. Could think of a Canthan improvement for that which is for the Thief)

Aragorne use a sword, not a greatsword… I still have to see a Ranger with a Greatsword, but i am pretty sure i have seen one with a rifle.
Aragorn uses a hand and a half sword (it wouldn’t let me use the normal b-word term for it… replaced it with kitten? kitten sword, really?), which is a sword that can be used one or two handed, something this game lacks. However, he normally used it in two hands.
What I want is a ranger that can use two swords like one of the most iconic rangers about, Drizzt (and no, I’m not a Drizzt fanboy, I just love the idea of dual wielding).

Btw, “kittens” is the forum’s standard way of bleeping. Has been since BWE, and kudos to ANet for making it something both innocuous and very entertaining.
Though I do have to say, wielding a kitten sword would be pretty awesome.
