im curious on how heal as one change will affect things. Its always been a heavy heal. But if it actually becomes somewhat reliable as a low cooldown burst heal option thatl be interesting.

Love the changes to torch, I feel like the others are mediocre.

Hunters call still needs something like blinds or bleeds added to it. Call of the Wild could use a couple more stacks of might or at the very least increased swiftness duration, especially considering warrior warhorn can give perma swiftness when traited and necro gives 22.5 out of 24 seconds when traited.

Heal as one needs a good perk like “revives dead pet to 50% health”

PS: NO changes for pets? Condition damage and Healing pets are still crap, They dont have the respective stats) Need more control for pets, Pathing, Pet traits.

I don’t think you can interrupt the skill once it’s been activated on a target by stunning etc the Ranger. You do however need to maintain a constant line of sight with the hawks and be facing the target. I’m not sure of the arc but doing a complete 180 shuts them off.

But, ya, the warrior horn is amazing. The Ranger horn is pretty decent assuming you have no warriors or guardians in your group which is almost never the case in PvE or large fight WvW/GvG.

I need further testing, but In my experience all channeled skills can be interrupted during the channel, even if it is close to finishing like Rapid Fire, Mesmer’s Confusing Images on Scepter.

As a mesmer main, channeled skills without stability are free interrupts to would most likely to a chain daze or lockdown burst.

Also, Our Hunter’s Call is a hit or miss skill, imagine that is 16 hits, what a waste to be interrupted.

From a pvp perspective:

Torch – Changes will encourage people to drop their shortbow. I’m also interested in the reaction with offhand training. If we can cover a point like warrior bow f1, that will be huge for side node play.

Warhorn – Never used in pvp, still won’t be. Decent change for wvw/pve though.

HaO – Never used in pvp, still won’t be. Base heal is too low and doesn’t beat the utility of healspring.

When was this changed? I’ve never seen it work when LoS is lost. If they go behind a solid object or through a wall portal in WvW the skill will keep firing off but will just throw up “Obstructed” errors until the channel ends.

Yes, it does not work when LoS is lost., i even think that when you do something immediately after you cast WH 4,, it gets canceled.

I was not “QQ” ing, I was just comenting on the changes. I don’t think we need any buffs at the moment. Pets are just fine in PvE. Also ranger spot will get somewhat better, cause the might nerf hits ele the most. Is some cases it’s already recomended and better to have a ranger rather than a second ele, and this is going to get even higher.

The only problem there is with pets, is first of all that some (most) of them are absolutelly useless, and second, they still have issues hitting moving targets in PvP/WvW, even with swiftness and Agility Training.

Might changes is fine i guess, my own build uses 2x battle + mighty swap. Currently that gives me 12 stacks at max, it’ll be down to 8-9 stacks now for sure.

Oh well, it is a small price to pay in order to bring eles and engies down a bit.

This game stopped evolving pretty much at release. Nothing seems to happen really, we’re still here, two plus years later with the same old skills and the same old mechanic.

GW1 had so many variations compared to this game. Here, we’re trying to tweak extremely limited build options to the extreme, but in the end nothing really makes any difference.
GW1 was the ultimate game when it came to trying out builds. GW2 is a pale shadow of its much more glorious past. It’s sad.

Anet, go back to your roots. Combine what made GW1 so succesful, with the improved gameplay and open world nature of this game. I guess it is to late for GW2, here’s hoping for perfection in GW3…

To few changes, these changes won’t bring us back into the meta sadly.

I do like Torch/Warhorn buff’s, def in the right direction.

Sadly all the problems we are faced with didn’t take a single hit in this balance patch.

Our Berserker build still going to get hard countered by Ele/Guard/Thief.

Trap Ranger might have a chance but with Cele builds barely taking a hit there still to much condition remove and healing for us to break a target before we die to there spam.

Spirit Ranger and Bleed Survival builds got the buff with this update.

I must be the only person who loves Hunter’s Call for initiating bursts with a condition build, lol. Mostly Rabid gear and it stacks quite a few bleeds as well as doing an acceptable amount of damage that will continue even if your target stealths. Follow with Splitblade and some traps and it’s a very good skill to keep pressure on your opponents, so.. I dunno. It’s still a pretty meh skill but I like it and I’m glad it’s gotten a bit of a buff. Just means I can initiate my bursts sooner.

As for the cooldown reduction on Call Of The Wild, this will be fantastic with Off-hand Training. I’m actually rather excited for these changes despite how mediocre they are. I’ve been using Sword/Warhorn for a very long time, any buffs to either of these weapons is good news to me.

With the general amount of negative attention/feedback they are getting about ranger did you really expect anything? The fact that the entire profession didn’t get the nerf nuke, just to quiet the masses, is still a bit of surprise to me.

As a BM ranger, i’m worried that with the might nerf, the bigest burden is on our pet’s dps which rely heavily on our ability to overstack might on them. In short this mean pets will lose 125 power, so something like 5% dps.
For me this change will be a nerf but, for other spec that don’t really rely on pet, sure, this will be pretty enjoyable. I will probably use a bit more the torch for open pve farm and every buff to WH are always welcome (for me CD reduction is mean more combo blast and better boon uptime. Thought, hunter call buff is a bit off since this skill need either to be a channelled skill with a better dps or some usefull debuff on it.)

Changes on Heal as one doesn’t make it more appealing. This skill grant absolutely nothing except health. What this skill truly need is to be tied to one of the ranger skill categorie. Just tie it to survival skill, add 5 second CD (up to 25 second) and everything will be fine because there will be room for us to improve this skill via trait.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

I am very surprise that Heal as One was replace with one of the other heals for the NPE as they switched warrior to Healing Signet. As it stands you are right without additional effect of some kind I can not see any one using it in favor of any heal other than the spirit (which may be one of the worst heals in the game)

I like the changes, it’s always something. But apart from the pet changes, I’d really like the spirits to work as necromancer minions. They shouldn’t have a 60 second duration, but vanish only when killed. Of course that would make the Spirit of Nature overpowered, but it’s functionality can always be left like it is. Or make the spirits undead, with the 60 second duration. Or even 3rd option, let them attack like the elementals or minions do. But please, make them more usable or take down the internal cooldown like the frost one.

well since we share boons , we are pretty much only getting 1 less might from battle and we grant pet might on sword directly and on axe its passively (ranger gains the boon and passes it on) i doubt it will make much difference even without the trait of compainions might , with that it should put us at a closer lvl with other might stacking types , since we attack so fast as well loosing 1 might to us will not mean a lot.

right like its consistant in the first place , it won’t do much it may be a pain now but considering the boost from the other changes it balances its self out , our class is one of the most dps Outside of stacking might , so we are hit less by this change.

in the end its effecting everyone so its fair.

who knows they might attcualy buff ranger pets to compensate at a later date.

Sweet! call of the wild now syncs with healing spring. I always use it because of lower cast time, condi removals, is a burst heal and extra regeneration in my defensive rotation eg sword 2, heal spring, blast, sword 2 desired position, a sword 3 before or after these (all this gives me more heals than troll/heal as one which offer nothing but just health).

haha never mind search and rescues ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUSLY MASSIVE COOLDOWN in TPvP. Last I checked it was almost twice if not three times as long as its PvE version. Its not even an instant effect thing. The rez mechanic can be KILLED for kittens sake. It can be interupted,stunned,knockbacked,affected by poison, its worthless if hte person is in a difficult to reach spot, its worthless if your not using another cooldown with it.

Its sad because the idea of the ability is actually GOOD for a ranger shout. But if it cant be used reliably theres no point to it. And its massive cooldown makes it WORSE for the risks it has instead of better in comparison to other rez skills…which no one brings except for banner…ever.

Not that I am saying that I personally believe the hype or anything, but I’d at least wait to snuff out all of my hope until after we see what this big announcement worth watching on Saturday (the 24th) is.

I mean, there could be a legitimate reason why (allocation of resources), with so many glaring issues with combat balance, that the patch is only number tweaks and shaves .tries to hold back uncontrollable laughing

No seriously though. Nobody is necessarily saying that rangers need anything significant (traps, shortbow, and sword still make me sad, as does the trait system, but still), but it does seem like the balance team has been slacking on balancing out just about the worst competitive metagame I’ve ever experienced in a game. So hopefully there’s a legitimate reason for that, because otherwise, the mods are going to be working overtime on Sunday (starting Saturday).
