Definitely use Quickening Zephyr with Sick’Em and just watch your pet go bezerk.. I also use the jaguar stealth skill that give 100% crit rate..
Well since your pet is already dealing some good damage, and you’re using Signet of the Hunt, I would suggest going for “Guard”. It will give your pet stealth (for a short while) and protection, which makes it more durable in drawn out battles against veteran and champion mobs, when your healing skill is on cooldown. “Guard” also give you the ability to send your pet over gaps, like in a jumping puzzle. I don’t think you need Signet of the Wild, since your healing power is going to be pretty good already. I would go with Healing Spring instead, and then pick a cat that has a leap F2 skill to get more healing from it.

If you’re using a jaguar i’d use Guard over QZ (i like to take at least one signet for a BM build to help my pet out a bit more)
What i run for my BM build is usually Sick’Em, QZ, and Sig of the Hunt (or the wild if it’s a very dangerous place for a pet).
However for my elite i tend to take entangle instead of RaO, because i tend to find it better to hold my enemies nice and still for the pretty stealthd kitty than to super charge him, i’ve seen how fast my pet can drop svanir and chieftan when they stand still, and players are MUCH squishier than them.

why would i take guard over QZ? guard is almost useless in pvp and QZ is great for quick rez’s and quick stomps..

Just for your information: He write he’s “just leveling” his Ranger, so he’s most likely not playing PvP..

Guard has no increased stat value so its worthless to me..
Sick’Em has Increases damage by 40% and Increases movement speed by 40%.
@Kasama yes I saw I was just explaining why I use it

Read what i said, if you use a jaguar guard is better because it gives your jaguar 100% crit rate, and with pet prowess that’s an 80% damage increase which is FAR greater than that of Sick’Em, however if you’re using any other pet (i think ALL cats are able to attack from stealth and not break it) than you’d want to use Sick’Em!

QZ is really good in just about everything, it’s a multi use tool, it can be used for offense(self explanatory) and defense (picking up allies from the floor.)

but a jaguar can stealth with it’s F2 skill
so i can get 100% crit rate + 40% damage increase and if I was speced for pet prowess another 30% on critical
if I chose guard I’d loose the 40% damage increase but have 2 stealths
btw only the jaguar can stealth.. I use lynx for my other pet that has rending pounce..
so I fail to see why guard is better.. at least with my set up.. p.s. I also use it help the pet chase down a fleeing enemy so for me it’s too useful to give up..

Guard gives you 18s of 100% crit rate when used with the other stealth, and the other cats can still gain stealth you know… smoke field leaps, guard, etc. and i prefer to use Guard if i’m using a jaguar because it means that i have a longer duration for keeping him stealthed, thus longer crit rate, it also makes one of the squishiest pets in the game super durable (12-15s of protection is AMAZING!!), not to mention then you can get better burst with QZ + Stealth on a shorter CD.
PS: I use a longbow so my pet has perma swiftness, making Sick’Ems movement speed nearly worthless (only 7% at that point).

sounds good for pve.. but in the heat of a pvp battle i have no time to use guard but thats just me
Sooo, where can i find Jaguar?

I have plenty of time to throw guard down in the heat of PvP, and i click my utility skills xD. it’s REALLY nice on a jaguar, and drakes, drakes may be better because i’ve found out your pets next attack coming out of stealth is a crit, and my god that breathe critting is amazing.

Hm, not sure what boosted guard ability you have, but my pets comes out of stealth as soon as they land their first attack when using guard. Do you mean your pets are still in stealth mode for the full, what, 10 seconds, even after they’ve landed an attack?
just tested, the protection stays.. but the stealth drops and doesnt crit 100% with guard.. also tested sick’em.. it has much better DPS just as i thought..
This is what a pet is capable of.. heavy golem dead in 2.7 sec
That’s why it’s upsetting when people say pets are useless (except in dungeons)

ONLY jaguars don’t come out of stealth after the first attack, a jaguar pet can attack from stealth and not have it broken (used to be all but that was stupidly broken lol), however when a pet leaves stealth their first attack is a crit, and in a jaguars case ALL attacks made from stealth are a crit as well as the first one after leaving it.
So if you use a jaguar pet Guard is a lot better than sick’em due to the sheer amount of time your pet is having a 100% to crit the enemy, and then if you have rending training that’s a bleed on each attack too, which just really makes sick’em significantly worse while using a jaguar.
Again, this is only for the JAGUAR! All other pets Sick’Em would be better (for offense), however they still will crit on their first attack out of stealth (unless this has changed recently, i haven’t noticed a change though).

ok im lost you seem to contradict your self from the way i see it..
“So if you use a jaguar pet Guard is a lot better than sick’em due to the sheer amount of time your pet is having a 100% to crit”
using the jaguar pet is the only 6 second 100% crit in the game..
guard nets you 1 maybe 2 crits
so your pet stealths.. crits once.. unstealth no more crits.. from the skill guard
if you choose guard you get 1 – 2 crits and protection
if you choose sick’em you get 40% damage increase for 10 secs
40% damage increase for 10 secs or 1 maybe 2 crits and protection your choice
guard better foe pve
sick’em better for pvp

No, if you use guard on a JAGUAR it stays stealthed for the duration, whether he attacks or not, the OTHER pets do not stay stealthed.
And they’re both the same in both situations it just depends on whether you want to bring a sword or a shield (looking at it from an all pet point of view not a jaguar pet point of view.)
EDIT: after getting into the mists and using guard + jaguar it appears that they made a change so that guard no longer allows any of the pets to stay in stealth 100% of the time, however it does still allow them to have a 100% chance to crit, so there’s that!
So yes, Sick’em would be better for an offensive shout EVERY time, where Guard would be a better defensive/ SURPRISE! skill.

just tested the jaguar is unstealthing like everything else for me after the first hit on guard.. dont make me upload a vid cus i can..
edit: i see the mechanics must of changed then
also guard is very useful for pve when the protection on the pet is a great tool to have

I know i use guard in PvP with my drakes for the stealth drake breathe of awesome! However most of the time i do use Sick’Em! and QZ

Guard does not bring 100% crit chance, not even on the first attack, not even for the jaguar, I’ve tested it enough to be sure of this.
Also note that the jaguar doesn’t have the regular “stealth” skill, but it’s called “stalk” (stalking), which is a special ability unique to this pet, not seen anywhere else. The regular stealth mechanic does not come with a 100% chance to crit for anyone, afaik, only “stalk” has this ability bound to it.
Guard has it uses for sure, but boosting damage is not one of them. In pvp we’ve seen many examples what it might be good for, in regular pve I’d only use it for its 10 seconds of protection, which may have it’s uses for sure. You could for example have a build that gives 10 seconds of protection from guard, then 2 + 2 (4 + 4 with fortifying bond, even more if you have lots of + boon duration) seconds from Companion´s Defense for a total of 14 (18+) seconds, which could be very useful.
That, or to “auto-farm” an area with fast spawning mobs!
There may be even more useful things guard could be used for in pve, haven’t played around with it that much yet.
I use guard in a similar way in PvE and PvP I use it to put my pet in an area I need secure because the second something trips his Agro radius he will be jumping all over them. It’s certainly more useful in PvP (in my opinion) but its really good in both.
