This video demonstrates the effectiveness of watching tells and reacting to your opponent’s play. By knowing what you are facing and fighting their build and play, you can turn a matchup that metabattle describes as a counter

Into one where the celestial elementalist has no chance of winning regardless of personal skill.

I show three duels in three different situations:
1) Solo queue
2) Private duel
3) Full team queue

While I cannot attest to the skill of the elementalists in the first and third duel, I queue with the person from the second duel often enough that I know he is a good elementalist.

In an effort to represent ideal play, I opted not to include fights where I played poorly by failing to count dodges/condi clears etc. The end result in those fights still wound up with wins, but the fights themselves took twice to three times as long as the duels in this video.

Even with these fights there were numerous mistakes on my part. I’m keenly aware and am making an effort to improve my play further.

For these fights I used a SotF build tuned for side node play. Special focus is put on heavy sustain in order to survive against any single opponent.

nice build. I have been running almost an identical build trait wise and weapon wise for a few months now roaming in wvw, and I can vouch for its strength 1v1 and even 1v2 in terms of surviving for a long time. Double condition cleanse looks overkill on paper, but it is not. You basically shrug them off.

I personally prefer celestial gear instead, and I run with sharpening stone and lightning reflexes as my main, and swap signets on the fly. Even with all the condition removal, I still swap signet of renewal against classes I know will condi bomb me from time ti time. I use Krait runes over nightmare and doom/corruption sigils atop of the geomancy to keep constant poison pressure up.
