Just a video of me playing some full zerk ranger in small group WvW roaming. Forgive the sloppy play at points, I just came back to ranger after a long absence and a bit rusty still. I tried to include some even fights, outnumbered fights, and 1v1s in there as best I could.

I appreciate any feedback people have about the video, gameplay or otherwise.

I had actually, but its not a big deal. If I had edited the original post it would say that it had been edited and when it had been.

The 8min sped up was kinda annoying. Should have made a separate vid of that engagement.

Be sure to post a build, here and/or on youtube, using one of those websites. People like to see builds. Even if its typical to you/me/other frequent forum users, there are a lot of new people looking for up to date game play and the accompanying builds.

I watched it in 360. It actually come in higher quality or it still processing? If it is low quality vid simply cause its so long, consider not uploading anything above 10min.

Its 1080p now. Youtube processing does the whole 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p in that order after it gets uploaded.

• full zerk
• fast forwading
• 90% longbow camping
• fighting often lesser numbers with an organized group
• enemies are pugs and often uplevels

there are a couple good clips where you are decently out numbered and the enemies dont even bother to push except for a few people that are the “SQUIRREL” types. there is zero roaming, just a typical maguuma gank group.

a roaming vid is you running around by yourself getting into 1vX. if you want a great example of good team gameplay, check out:

im not saying you arent good, im just saying the video doesn’t showcase what you can do. it shows what you can do in full zerk fighting pugs so bad that you dont need to weaponswap with a bunch of your buddies assisting on the same guy.

Fair points. Though I’m curious where you are finding us outnumbering the enemy? As far as I can tell there weren’t any clips of us outnumbering the opponents.

It appears we have different views of what roaming is, some view it as only solo and some view it as anything five or less. It’s up to you.

I’m also curious how far you got into the video, which is probably a fault of mine. I put most of the 4-5 man material at the beginning, with the rest being mainly 2v3 or 1v1. The fast forward was for that one fight because it was far too long to enjoy at normal speed.

Camping longbow is not the ideal situation, however in that fight there why should I swap to gs? Going zerk means there isn’t a whole lot of point to charging in with the gs and getting blown up by cleave. If I’m not being pressured in melee, why should I swap to a melee weapon?

I appreciate the feedback and will attempt to act on it to improve for the next video. Thanks.

Granted I haven’t watch the rest of the videos, but the second one you posted I would take issue with the claim “good players.” A guild attempting to melee train down people in small group, and a bunch of pugs who are hard rezzing instead of fighting.

The issue comes down to the fact we can control who we fight. I’d love to constantly be fighting other roaming groups and guilds but frankly at this point in the game they either don’t exist or they simply don’t want to fight anymore.

I noticed you’re on SBI. Do you know of any active roaming guilds on the server during NA?

Full zerk implies that either you are so skilled you arent going to get hit, or that you dont really put yourself in fights where taking a hit is going to happen. the whole first 10 minutes or so (the fast forwarded part) is the latter.

there is nothing wrong with camping longbow in that situation (avoids getting pulled into guards and is a safe, smart play) but it doesnt show off what you can do. videos like this are for entertainment. how well you do when under pressure is entertaining.

first 2 mins or so, you are either equal with or outnumber the enemy. after that it starts getting to the point where there are more of them (hard to tell because mesmers) but they all come in mostly one at a time while the others hang back and pew-pew watching their pug-mate get assisted down. you out number the guys who follow you around the corner at 5:40. they outnumber you a bit by 6min but are immediatly running away. that cycle continues for the next couple minutes, where they’ll get brave, one guy will get blown up and they all run away (reminds me of those Kindred from diablo 2).

everyones definition of roaming is going to be different. for me, if either you out number the enemy OR you have 4+ people, its not roaming, at that point its havok or gank squad, but semantics dont really effect the video.

either way, at 10min there is some 2vX, but… your buddy is a mesmer. indisputably the most OP roamer in the game right now, which means most of the fights that are close or even have to be taken with a grain of salt.

so the first 2vX fight is you guys killing 4 SBI, 1 pair of which were mostly-AFK mesmers who didnt do much of fighting back, and the necro and ranger were out mining who didnt really help the mesmers or do anything to fight (they mostly just run away). ranger is running a bear pet. no one pressures you.

next fight is 2v3, but the thief dies right away and i couldnt tell what happened to that warrior (did he die or leave?). again, no one pressures you.

the 11:30 clip is arguably the best clip of the vid against multiple mesmers and thieves. you get moderately pressured, your buddy gets heavily pressured, you guys come out on top and its fun to watch.

the 14min clip against FEAR, who are decent and grouped together, is 2v3 and you get heavily pressured, but its not as fun to watch because its you running to stay alive while your buddy does the brunt of the work off camera.

1v1 against a thief, its not a close fight. next fight, solo into the tower, youre above half health the whole time fighting the necro and the engi is a free kill, but it gets exciting when you are close to getting downed on your way out. it was a good “oh kitten will he make it?” moment. the keep defense has a lot going on. the 3v3 at ruins is pretty good. 2nd to last fight against the engi isnt bad, but you had a good advantage on starting HP considering his falling damage. No comment on james, he gets enough crap from the Obs video.

hey, if you find one, let me know. i havent seen any practiced guilds that roam as something smaller than a zerg in a long time. FEAR (formerly Abys) used to. DOG sometimes does, but they often end up leading the zerg when no one steps up to command. its hard to tell who the SBI havoks are from my side of the fence because they generally dont tag and try to avoid company. i’d love to know if we have something comparable to XOXO or the like.

by “good players” in the rekt group video, the enemies were assisting eachother and were clearly not pugs. it wasn’t an all-that-high bar, it was more to show how being under pressure makes a fight fun to watch.

It’s hard to tell at the start of the fast forward as you say. I’d say they had 4 which makes it even but as we all know even against a guild group of any worth is really outnumbered so I’ll agree on that.

I’ll agree also that Mesmer is a very strong roaming class. As for those AFK mesmers you’re right that were trash, but it’s impossible to find good clips nowadays (I’m even complaining about it at the start of that clip) and they were a full condition group so I find some enjoyment at their horrible play.

I agree with pretty much every statement there, though the engineer you point out had followed me down the cliff. I had just taken the fall damage as well but cut it out because it didn’t have to do with the fight.

And yes the 2v3 near SET the warrior immediately runs away when he sees it’s no longer a 1v3. Just illustrates the issues in finding clips to put into videos when the majority of what could be good fights end up being ruined by someone running away.

I will let you know if I see them either. I would say HUNT but currently all they’ve been doing is running 2+ Mesmers in a group of 5 and hiding in zergs or calling zergs to our location instead of fighting.

I suppose it’s true what you say about that video. I’d argue that the ranger didn’t need to be pressured and only opened himself up to those chances by running into the opponent. While they are supporting each other, they also leave their guildies out in the open and don’t even go back to power rez when they are downed.

Pretty much. But hey, how else are you gonna get those clips. If you’re pulling out 2v9’s there is a massive skill gap regardless of what builds you’re running. I for one am grateful for their existence.

Also nice video, Duke God putting in some work with those heals and condi cleanses.

I agree with your definiton of a good roaming vid, but it’s quiet subjective . The ranger is far from being great, camping longbow, untargeted 60 % of the fight, dodging when is not focused, running back under pressure (or trying to) and barely watching what’s happens behind him. When i see a guy loosing a key to stow his weapon during a fight, i just stop watching. He’s doing the minimum when you play ranger in a group, nothing more.

For me roaming is anything between 1-5 people and I don’t think having 5 people in the group means it’s automatically a ganking group. Ganking groups are a bit cowardish, targetting everything with less numbers and running away from equal or outnumbered situations every time.

I feel there’s a bit too much over analyzing going on here tho. In the end as long as you are having fun, nothing else matters. Keep on recording, even if others may not enjoy your videos you can always watch them through with your group as it’s a great way to improve your teamplay.

I agree on your roaming sentiment. It’s interesting to hear how many different definitions there are out there though.

Honestly I record to mainly with it myself. When I post to YouTube I expect not everyone to enjoy it or dislike it or complain or criticize it. As long as they’re doing it constructively it’s all fine. If they’re just doing it and not offering any feedback it’s easy to ignore them. The feedback here was pretty constructive from most so it’s all good, unlike the revenant forums that got angry when I called for some tweaks to the class after putting up a gameplay video.
