Vulnerability Ranger in WvW worth it?
I don’t have a yes or no answer, but I will say that as I understand it, vulnerability seems like a powerful condition by it’s very nature because it applies to all incoming damage, be it from other players, siege, NPCs, maybe even falling, etc. If you apply bleeds, there’s a finite amount of damage your target will take from your bleeds, but with vuln., the amount of damage a target will take until dead is only limited by the number of sources of damage.
If you’re running with zergs, your target is going to be hit with a lot of conditions. If you can get your vul in quickly, the other conditions will “cover” it, making it harder to clear.
I say go for and see how it works. I did practically the same thing with chill instead of vulnerability, and it’s been a blast.
Tarnished Coast
This isnt based off anything but my imagination… but if its a 1v1 it’s probably not worth getting too excited about, but if you’re in a roaming group with friend and you can all focus on one target, then 10-25% extra damage for your whole group is going to be amazing.
The reason I dont imagine its amasing is just ebcause of the difference I see between mesmers and rangers.. I play a shatter mesmer and one of the tactics is to use F3 to stack 25 vulnerability more or less instantly, resummon clones though a dodge + weapon skill or utility and go straight into a shatter burst. That is brutal, but rangers dont really have a burst like a shatter mesmer to really egt the most out of their stacks alone.
Gunnar’s Hold
ranger dont realy do the killing , just the finishing and prepairing the targets , cripple, immobilze , bleeds , poisons on easy access with little cooldown , it may not be the strongest in the amount of stacks but its pretty much all applied over only 2 or 3 skills and the vun is free just from traits.
’d try traiting for a LB marksman with condi damage, with the dual sigils now put on torment and bleeds on crit.
even though this will mean your LB will not and never be your main weapon you can apply masses of vun on a Aoe size using the barrage and cover it up with condi duration torment . bleeds and cripple.
im sorely tempted to try this out as i already have the gear to try it, so i’ll get back to you with that , but from the stats.
i’d guess it would be running 6/x/6/x/0 or 6/4/4/0/0 along those lines , and you’ll have to use some condi duration runes maybe Mad king for most effect , the down side will be condi removal again only having Eb + and or SoR ,
as you’ll need Pizzas + maintance oil to up the % for the prots for torment and bleeds to go off nearly every cycle of rapid fire>barrage.
and on swap effects for S/D or S/W maybe axe/Dagger with off-hand training for the evades , Sigil of energy is a must , or that sigil that grants full Endurance on kill since this will ween out those builds without condi removals , the only place in a zerg that will have 100% condi removal is the peeps on the blue tag , so it’ll be a great mid line to back barrager targeting those around the edge of the hammer.
i guess it would be Purely Full rampagers power/precion/condi with PVT and PPT trinkets , Condi support LB, A+D or S/D for maximum escape as gs wont be a option due to focus on condis you’ll need power/condi weapons like the axe+D or S+D or S+W with sigils o support the upkeep of bleeds and a on swap chill so you can get away? , wilderness kitted for survival skils, sharpended edges , longbow Range eagle eye and Remorseless .
its a intresting concept , if your only job is to apply masses of condis with lots of cover up condis using a Longbow with rampagers its got power but not as much as full pvt .
i’ll test it for you all and see if it holds up , i’ll be using a ascended Cavaliers longbow as i don’t have any other longbows.

(edited 40% condi duration food adds a lot more damage for 100 less toughness)
(edited 13/6/14 little less power, more condi damage, more crit chance base 40% Lb 46% S/D only fury avliable is from Pig plasma or team mates. Keen Edge could be a choice 5×1k bleeds would be a good addtions to the already added bleeds.)
i tried my best with this but this is the most amount of power/condi i could get without loosing too much on toughness and vit , while keeping the crit chance high enough to make use of the sigils, and i thought i could take the sigil of vun for extra vun but then the lb barrage wouldn’t apply enough aoe condis and with remorseless and pigs you could hide all day on and off applying long term bleeds, condi and cripples. the warthog is there for the Venom sacks will be very useful to apply condis that you can’t with the lb if your stuck in a weapon and thow these at them while you. wait 2-3secs, its got fear too and a random condition and since your the one throwing the item it uses your stats when attacking , if you add poison mataster with 50% condi duraiton 100% on poisons , the venom sack hits for 14k poison over like 30secs on top of consistaly applying poison,
but that would be the loss of EB and your only sources of condi removal would be team mates,healing spring, or SoR, with the Runes the rune 6 applies torment on heal with a cooldown of 20secs , can be used with troll ugnet every time it comes off cooldown.
its still the same combat style of kiting vs your opponent , but instead of appying conditions while bunkering , you do it while stealthing and kiting , down side i see a lack of great healing and will rely on vun+stacked condis for a fast kill while you hide in stealth healing up with troll ungent , troll ungent would be the best choice as it won’t give your position away but the pet will anyway ,
so as a suggestion utlity 3 would be guard , that will stealtrh your pet too and allow you to position your pet during stealth as its a shout not a attack, you can get it to plant its item in a place where you will be kiting to later and use that system to your advantage .
Though it will need a proper WvW Test this could make a great small team roaming guild / guild group build.

I tried a full Chill build the other night—Traits, Runes, Sigils, Food, the lot. Short Bow|Sword/Dagger.
WvW 1v1/1v2, it sucked. Only 30% chance on hit (Sigil) to trigger chill, unless it’s night whereby you can increase it to 70% (with +40% Food)… then even if you do trigger it, you’re looking at only 7 seconds max of duration, and that’s if they don’t have any condition negation.
To build for Chill, compromising on so many other interesting and more effective combinations just seems completely untenable.
Could you tell me more about your build and experience/success?
