Wanted to share my build - updated build
By the way, I tested the poison for you.
… Whoever applies the poison 1st gets the damage going. The other applications will have to wait the queue.
So if you apply the poison 1st-you are fine. If it’s the pet – your poison will have to wait.

Thank you for checking, I switched out the Cave Spider for the Drake Hound, and kept the Ice Drake. That seems to be doing better.
I also switched out the two sigils on the LB and have been watching my combat log…looks like I crit every other shot and for much much higher numbers than I started with.
The low health still gets me sometimes if I’m not paying attention, but that’s getting better too.
Sweet! Once you get used to being glassy, you will improve your game too imo. Good to hear your numbers are bigger too!
Best part about this thread:
12:59: Should I use a devourer?
13:16: No, devourers are terrible!
Less than 20 minutes for someone to say devourers are terrible!
Ranger justice.
Am I good?… I’m good.
Devourers are not totally terrible, if you need something non melee that basically cannot be killed.
Oh, and the River Drake is the best Drake by far, Marsh is pretty nice though too.

Sorry, devourers are the worst.
Pet DPS from highest to lowest:
Feline
Bird
Canine
Drake
Spider
Porcine = Moa
Devourer
Bear
Tested on non-moving heavy golems. Average time to kill (tested 5 times per pet type). F2 skill not included.
Did you actually read what I said? Seems not. I didn’t even mention DPS.
If you need something ranged and if you need it to not die, devourer is good. That is the only time. If they get base condi damage, like we are discussing in the other thread, they will be pretty nice at times actually. Also, I suggest you run your test again, this time use the moving golem.

not everything revolves around damage .
yes the Devourer may have low damage but guess what , it fires two shots (after HoT these two shots will stack 2 bleeds or 2 Poisons / Poison master you pets next attack causes Poison and guess what its auto is a split shot vs one target = 2 stacks of poison and 2 stacks of bleeding.)
it has KB , tunneling perfect for Empathic bond use avoids excess damage provides a good source of Utilities.
if you only ever think about damage , you’ll never tap into a Rangers potential.

Unless they give the pets the buff to condi damage and rework a lot of skills they will be even more useless since the poison won’t be stacking in duration. What good is 3 seconds of poison that is doing nothing for damage?
Seems like OP does pve only, targets don’t move around much. Devourer’s still the worst pet you can pick up. At least bear can tank mai trin.
And the current poison master is overrated:
Assume: 0 condition damage
Poison: 80/s
Traited poison: 120/s
Difference: 40/s
Assume: 1500 condition damage
Poison: 230/s
Traited poison: 345/s
Difference: 115/s
Sword/Dagger has enough poison to cripple healing. You’re taking a GM trait to do the equivalent of 1 bleed stack. Until the condition change comes, that trait is pretty much useless.

in the current system yes its better to only use one source of poison and the second is in que , though after HoT all stacks of poison will increase the intensity of damage over the same duration , making condi durations less needed also don’t forget a pets condition attacks scale differently to a charaters condi damage so all in all Poison master is stronger after the change.
one guy in a different thread spotted the Rending strikes Note on the HoT version to be a 82damage bleed per second rather than 43. so pets clearly have different Base – co -eds.
I know it doesn’t matter, just wanted to share some action shots…
I am now fully verata’s, with a few pieces and infusions that still have to be bought with laurels…
Maybe “Glassbow” ranger? lol Hardly any health.
Looks nice mate, I can’t wait to try out traits like these ones with all Sinister and a LB with dual birds.
Thanks! I’m anxious to see how the new condition changes coming Tuesday will effect the build. I am hoping it will only make it better.

Post patch, it got even more awesome for me, at least. The crits!
Made some tweaks to the build about two weeks ago…still use sword/dagger, but swapped out longbow for axe/torch and the ice drake for the feline.
take a look at the pve condi ranger thread that was up a bit ago. you can use axe on one weapon set and torch on the other and keep constant burn up in pve. this is it basically, although i have it setup for me.

Thanks Prophet, I did check that out and its pretty cool. I am not a big fan of spirits, just not my taste, and I like the mobility that my sword/dagger gives me.
I guess I am going for a more all-around condi build with decent power, not just burns, but bleeds too, etc. But the build you linked is pretty sweet.
Thanks! glad you liked it, have fun with you ranger! I’ve been messing around with other classes but I don’t have as much fun on anything else.
So tweaked a few more things at Heimskarl’s suggestion, the only thing I didn’t have up was the 25 stacks of condi damange from one of my weapon sigils. When that’s up, the condi is a little under 3k.

Looking forward to running this myself

I am really enjoying it, especially… entangle, flame trap, spike trap, and skill 5 on torch…in that order lol
It makes for quick melts in dungeon speed runs (like CoE) when you have to stack in certain spots.
The only downside I have noticed, well, noticed while doing the harpy fractal…it lacks stability. But that was more my fault for not swapping out for the skill when I needed to.
So I don’t normally spvp (actually hardly at all), but I decided to try out unranked last night for the first time ever, using this build…. worked out pretty well for me I think.
