Warrior or Ranger?
play sPvP for a week with a ranger and make your decision then.
How about not waste money or time making a Legendary only usable by two classes, neither of whom you seem to care for much?
They will probably either eventually come out with more Legendary weapons OR expand the weapons classes can use (so more can use Longbow) so rather then getting one for two classes you don’t play why not wait?

So, transmuting the graphic onto an exotic with the exact same stats is somehow worse? Or is there something I’m missing here?

First of all, drop the attitude. The question I asked in my original post was regarding which class is more fun and rewarding, it was not about whether or not I should get the legendary. I would appreciate it if we could get this thread back on topic.
Second, I’m not crazy about most of the legendaries. Some of them are just bad jokes, like The Moot for example. I use a mace all the time on my Guardian, but The Moot is a disco ball. I wouldn’t be caught dead with a disco ball.
Third, I can’t find a legendary that I like more than Kudzu. In my opinion it would be worth trying to get into the Warrior or the Ranger if I could use it. If I’m going to craft a legendary, then why should I settle for something that I don’t like just because I might use it a little more often? Because you say so?
Bottom line; if you’re going to answer a question, make sure you’re actually answering the question that has been asked and do it in a more respectful way. I’m sorry you’re having a bad day, I know how that is. I do accept your apology and I’m sorry for getting a little testy myself.
As for the other posts, I have read a few. The one you linked me, for example, asks specifically about Rangers and Warriors in WvW, which is not something I enjoy doing. Literally the only time I have ever set foot in WvW has been to get my Gifts of Exploration for crafting my legendaries. I realize that there are multiple posts asking similar questions, but they’re each uniquely tailored to the person asking the question, so when I didn’t find one that applies to my situation I decided to make my own post.
My situation is I want a DPS class for use in PvE that can use a longbow, which is why I mentioned the legendary in the first place, the longbow is important to me. I don’t really like the way the Warrior plays and the only thing I don’t like about the Ranger is the pet mechanic, which can get sticky in PvE.
That said, is the pet mechanic something that Ranger players learn to live with and, dare I say it, might even become fun after a while?
I should also mention that the only reason I made this post instead of just rolling a Ranger is because my roster is full and every character on it is decently high in level. I don’t want to delete any of them (I deleted one once thinking that Anet would restore the character if I asked like just about every other MMO does. They told me that they don’t do that here.) or drop cash/gold on gems for a new character slot if it doesn’t look like I’ll enjoy playing a Ranger. The only way I can tell whether or not I might enjoy it is through asking other people about their own experiences, how they use their Ranger, what the strengths and weaknesses of the class are, and so on.
Custom stats mean you don’t have to transmute… Was this not obvious?

I play ranger almost exclusively and a while ago I was running beastmaster mainly. Since the buff to the longbow I am running a zerker setup in pve and wvw and I like it alot.
The stealth on the longbow is just awesome. It’s what made it possible to play zerker ranger even for roaming and winning most 1v1 while still being useful in zergs with 1500 range and decent damage (retaliation is awful to barrage but since the nerf to retal you at least survive one barrage).
Soloing camps in WvW is really easy. You can even solo max updated camps before they respawn if you manage to position the mobs well and keep your bears alive.
And then the pets – I love them and it is one of the main things what makes the ranger awesome in my opinion. You can switch out pets for what you need. You want to buff the group with 50% fury uptime use the red moa. You need a super tanky pet use bears which even have nice F2 abilities like 10 sec AoE Weakness or 3 sec AoE Chill and there are a lot more pets which offer useful abilites like the wolf with knockdown and AoE fear or the hound/dog with knockdown and AoE immobilize.
In my opinion it is worth investing in a longbow ranger. But I cannot answer your question If the ranger is better for you than a warrior. I think the main difference is the stealth/knockback on the ranger longbow which are really awesome and that it is hard to avoid the longbow damage. The next thing that defines the ranger is the pet, which you don’t like as you said. I think you should try the ranger and see if you really don’t like pets or rather find out that they are pretty useful even if you only use them for fury or other buffs. It takes some time to learn to manage the pet but once you do it is awesome in my opinion.

I think all you have to do is look at the patch history of the two classes to see which is obviously deserving of the long term investment of a legendary.
I still feel bad for the rangers with the Dreamer…

If you dot like the idea of a pet mechanic, playing ranger won’t change your mind. It’s slow, unresponsive and does kitten damage because it can’t hit jack diddly.

You learn to live with the pet, but you’re never satisfied if you don’t initially like it, if that makes any sort of sense. There is no defining moment where you’ll do a 180 and think “I actually really like this.” You’ll have moments where you go “that was useful,” but much more of the time, you’re left going “….what? why?”
I’ve played ranger since guild wars 1 was released, and while the transition to guild wars 2 made rangers comparatively into RINOs (rangers in name only, haha), I have always been distinctly drawn to them.
Never the pet though. I think that if I had been forced to use the pet in guild wars 1, I just wouldn’t have played ranger, and because of that I probably wouldn’t be on these profession subforums right now.
So in essence, with my long term personal experience with the ranger, if you don’t like the pet mechanic now, then you won’t like it down the road unless its changed to be made better. I have some sort of bleak optimism that it will eventually happen, and I personally can’t stand the way any of the other classes “feel” in this game, so it really is still a matter of the pet and what it’s implications are that keeping me from being 100% satisfied with the class.
That being said, I love my ranger, and I love killing people in PvP/WvW on my ranger. It just feels so right. So that’s what my ultimate advice is. If it feels right for you, then it probably is, don’t let other people discourage you from having fun.
