Way of the Paw
That’s a lot to ask from devs…yet this would be really cool. This kind of idea, had it been worked on early enough, may have even been previously evaluated by ANET. Then again, maybe not…quite original. Very cool mechanic you have there.
I think there was some talk about giving rangers a staff. I was initially against this but after seeing Final Rest’s model, I would love to be able to weild staff.
Is there any way to find out if ANET has plans to add weapons before an expansion? Or is that the kind of thing that is expansion only?

It is a lot to ask for, my intention was just sharing an idea.
I strongly feel we will not see any weapons implemented prior to an expansion and I strongly feel it will not be this one lol. But it never hurts to share, who knows what else it sparks. With pets being such a strong part of the class in GW2 it would be nice to see more active interaction with them.
On the note of Final Rest, I’m not sure if you know or not but in GW1, the expansion Nightfall added a Scythe wielding class; Dervish. Whether we see old classes return I do not know.
How ever so far away it is, I think the first expansion will really give GW2 some juice.

It was asked in a Live Devblog (iirc) whether Elementalists would ever get to use GS. I can’t remember what the actual response was, but it was an “in-general about weapons” kind of reponse. I seem to remember thinking, “I doubt it.”
I like the idea of the Beastmaster-type weapon, but not that execution really. Sounds more like a dancing monkey :/ I mean, I suppose you could give them a, irish tin whistle, but…
I don’t know. I don’t have any solid ideas on a weapon specifically for that. I actually really like how they designed the short command whistles you do when you tell your pet to do something.

And what would you being doing as a player to contribute to the fight? What would you be doing to defend against an attacker?
As a PvPer I’ll speak in PvP terms: when targeting a pet class the first thing to die is generally the pet’s master! Sometimes priority is placed upon the pet, but ultimately the [Ranger] is the one that needs to die.
So while you’re making shadow puppets, what exactly will you be doing to defend yourself if a Thief decides you’re a tastier treat than your beast? Make sign language to your pet to intercede? Remember, you only have 5 slots to fill with abilities and they’ll likely have cooldowns.
Lastly, you’re suggesting introducing a new weapon. In this game, weapons are shared by a variety of classes so who else is going to share it? If you’re considering using one of the unused weapons by our profession, how do you suggest that would work? Currently we can’t use pistols, rifles, shields, scepters, maces or staffs.

this aint League Of Legends
So instead of me attacking and my pet attacking (both of us dealing damage) you want me to dance and my pet to attack (only 1 damage dealer)? That means all an enemy has to do is CC me and I’m 100% useless cuz my pet apparently only does what I tell it to based on my weapon skills. This isn’t Pokemon.
