We apriciate the Oct 15 Patch!
speak for yourself please. …unless “we” means your AI pet which I have a lot of trouble believing its capable of such awareness when it can’t even climb up a 1 foot box to lick wounds when you get downed anywhere but flat ground.
Getting teabagged by my pet while I bleed to death on a 15 degree incline was only funny the first time it happened.
I don’t, thanks for nothing ANet.
This patch sucks and so does Ranger.
ANet wins the award for: Worst performance of a balance team in an MMO 2012 AND 2013. gl for the threepeat in 2014, I’m sure you can do it.
Ya, I can’t even agree with you here Frostfang, sorry. It’s looking awfully disappointing.
I agree with the other posters that you should speak for yourself as well. I am terribly disappointed by the ranger part of this patch.
I do appreciate the parts of the patch that apply to everybody, like better tab-targeting, better ground targeting, better condition floaters, Halloween content, etc.
It’s nice that they buffed pet health in PvE, but this was a problem with all minions/pets across most classes and not really a ranger fix.
But I do not appreciate how little was done to balance rangers. Half of the changes are mild number changes to pet F2 skills. Not so exciting given how often F2 skills misfire, have delayed response, miss because pets root, etc. A quarter of the changes are simply fixing tooltip descriptions. (Ironically they broke other tooltips in the process.)
The final quarter of the changes are actually the ones with substance. I’m willing to reserve judgment on Sic ’Em until I try it out in sPvP – actually kind of hopeful about it. The handful of trait buffs are nice. The damage buff in Maul is nice.
But they really let us down with how far these changes go. There are very few real changes, and they don’t really make a big difference. Pretty much everything was in the patch preview from a month ago. They told us there would be number balances on weapon skills, and the only single number balance we got was Maul.
Honestly, this really just shows that they don’t care about ranger. It’s really not very encouraging that they’re so proud of that fluffy flavor bit about pets sniffing out thieves in stealth that it’s the only thing they talk about when they discuss ranger.

Pets don’t sniff out thieves in stealth, they sniff out thieves not in stealth !
Disappointing, know why? Because they promised this was a big patch for balance and classes and we didn’t get anything not even simple fixes that people have been saying since the game releases. Anet once again let us down, i havent played in 2-3 weeks and i go back to see the new patch and this is what i get? The halloween stuff is not even new, same as last year and probably worse (i feel like there are less events in the labyrinth and drops but well). Anet need to step the game up, a new gen is coming, lot of good games, they wont be able to hold everyone forever, not like this.
Weird how arguably the most under-powered class, received the least amount of patch-notes.
This pretty much solidified me ditching my ranger – time to level up my engineer.
I want to say THANK U A-net! No, I’m not being ironic. I Think the increase of HP in pets is very useful and well balanced! Now they don’t die as easily any more but they are not OP either:) Not even in dungeons ( I tried it out today).
The targeting system works great! And so does the ground tergeting as well. The Dodge-roll peritection is a nice feat for those who want to trait that (could be on Beastmaster though).
All I wish for the future now is a few more pets. My greates wish is a griffon!
I, too, am pleased. I’m still playing around with targeting, but I think it’s improved. And my lizard, Fluffy, appreciates the extra hitpoints.
If the class is so crappy (it’ not), why do I see so many rangers in PvE?

If the class is so crappy (it’ not), why do I see so many rangers in PvE?
Because the vast majority of players don’t play enough to notice balance problems (i.e. most players are fairly casual). Many average players will roll a ranger because ranger is a classic fantasy archtype and many people identify with that archtype.
OP, you are so wrong on so many levels.. even the title is spelled wrong.

^ This
The ranger class is so easy to use in overworld PvE that virtually every bot this game ever had was just an automated ranger on a scripted path.
Warriors may kill things quicker, but Rangers can do it with the least amount of effort or risk.
That kind of thing is very attractive to pve casuals who probably have 0 interest in anything pvp related.
If the class is so crappy (it’ not), why do I see so many rangers in PvE?
Because this is the ONLY place the ranger is actually worth something.
They’re awful in WvW, broken in PvP, and lack generally ability to play anything but PvE content. It’s great that casual players are enjoying the ranger for it’s ability to face-roll monsters, but that’s the only thing the class is good for.
If you want to play WvW, or anything else other than PvE, you’re are doomed to fail.
I like the patch. Sure it wasn’t all we want, but it’s a step in the right direction. I think we should applaud anet for going in the right direction and ask them to keep buffing rangers.

Actually, you’re quite far off there, Polar. PvP is actually the ranger’s strongest suit. The pet isn’t quite as kittened in PvP as it is elsewhere and, as such, can be used to more of it’s potential there. Roaming WvW is probably where we’re next strongest as it’s quite similiar to PvP in combat style.
Now zerg WvW and late-game PvE is where we have the most trouble as we, aka our pet, need to deal with heavily spammed AoEs and extremely hard-hitting attacks, which the pet can’t see or avoid.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger

Applauding anet is like applauding a chef for not sneezing on your steak even though he didn’t bother to cook it before serving it to you.

hahahha…. this made my day.

So many thanks for that comment.

Uhh… are you familiar with what a “Farming Bot” is?
My favorite part is, we got a 4 second reveal.
They got a blast finisher on blinding powder, so all they have to do is steal from us drop the healing spring and get a nice 2-3k heal plus condition removal and stealth.

Is that water field (healing seed) a full 15s duration? lol I bet it is based on our luck today
Confirmed: thieves steal a 15s water field from ranger according to docMed’s twitch stream. haha that’s pretty funny.
I roll a ranger, because I’m naturally attuned and determined to build a ranger. I main one, and in the game I enjoy being one. I agree that rangers are inevitably the most broken class in game, but no matter how much we beg, Anet is not going to care. I do pretty good in most spvp matches (and not just me! I see a bunch more rangers reaching the top of the list on their teams!), I do well in tourneys, I also support my guild, Os, in WvW. But what it comes down to in the end, is the determination and resilience you have to find the perfect build. As far as I’m concerned, There’s a lot of stuff that can be added to ranger, moreover, the damage a ranger can do with a longbow. The longbow is a key weapon in the idea of becoming a ranger(I’m not saying that it’s the best); for one thing, warriors do way more damage with a longbow than a ranger, also, the speed that arrows are being shot at, is absolutely atrocious. Another thing is the skills; rangers have little condition clearing as opposed to every other class. Okay, the healing spring, psht changing the healing done helped, okay, the signet still works(along with bear), but there is absolutely nothing that protects rangers from falling under conditions right after they were cleared. As far as pets go, well good job thinking about the pet…but bad job for not critically about the danger that rangers have to endure from other classes. But all the more, in order to be a ranger, you have to be able to cherish it; that’s my honest opinion, and I believe that it’s what it’s come down to.
If the class is so crappy (it’ not), why do I see so many rangers in PvE?

Yes.
When we killed Tequatl tonight, I was in a 5-Ranger PUG with real humans. Not unusual, either.
Yes, you can play Ranger face roll-easy, just like warrior. Some of us don’t. I run a very pet-focused (as I did in GW1) build; essentially, I’m playing a symbiotic build, heavy on WS and BM. Loads of fun for me, challenging, not easy, even in PvE.
I’m not saying Rangers don’t have problems, especially in PvP.
I am saying this patch did a few nice things, for which I’m grateful.
My biggest gripe is the ANet people were real vocal about engaging with the community, and then they clammed up after their big Monday meeting. Lots of noisy promises, no action. Bad move, ANet.
Confirmed: thieves steal a 15s water field from ranger according to docMed’s twitch stream. haha that’s pretty funny.
LOL talk about fair.
15 secs and we get a nerf to our most useful field, lol time to continue using steam.
Steam craps on alot of game company’s these days.
9/3/13 rip
I do not appreciate the patch . No pet HP buffs for WvW, traps got nerfed , no pet AI improvements , no weapon improvements , no debugging .
i am so glad that i have a warrior leveled up… sweet bejesus
no I dont appreciate the patch at all …
the so called balancing team is incompetent at best,
(or maybe they aren´t they just dont have a clue about whats the problem with the ranger so they wildly change things) as they have shown in the patch preview video (well they sure know their stuff with warrior or guardian.. thats true)
so speak for yourself
I DONT appreciate the latest balance patch
truth be told I feel a bit offended by it…
… but not that much because I bought Torchlight 2 and have some easygoing fun with that (and my honeybadger pet which is actually more helpful and fun in that game then any pet in GW2).

torchlight 2 what an amazing game. Cheap game and worth every penny
This is my favorite patch on Citadel… of Flame.
EDIT: Yeap, TL2 sure was awesome. I’m replaying GW1 atm.
more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger.
Become who you were born to be. I give hope to men. I keep none for myself.

Don’t appreciate the patch. I sadly come to conclusion that the balance-team consists of casual players. The one with short, but curlied hair, makes no good impression. The passion is there. No denying that. But he totally lives in his own world ignoring, the best player suggestions in the world. ‘mesmer scepter: we want to improve it, but have no idea how’. Seriously, players have suggested TONS of improvements for it, but you didn’t listen, only your own thoughts seems to count.
Chris Whiteside: I urge you to make the balance team your priority with ‘collaborative developpement’. The guys on this mondays twitch, have to learn how to take suggestions from players and don’t feel bad for it. And they have to take our (much bigger, much more endgame focused) experience for granted, and not deny it.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I was holding out for this patch to keep me in GW2. As a player who greatly enjoys playing with ranged weapons, I find I’m not welcome in dungeon runs. Dead/useless pet plus lower base damage ranged weapons leave me on the sidelines…that’s not really fun.
Sadly, I started giving my money to Blizzard again. You strung me along for over a year…fool me once —- fool me SO many times makes me an idiot.
The patch would have been fine IF it was just some random balance fixes that should be getting in every patch instead of held off for 4 months and hyped as some big important game changer and the two strongest classes in the game didn’t get about 3x as many buffs as every other class.
Oh well ‘go heavy armour or go home’ is the new Anet manifesto.
i like dis patch. because i expected far less.
you people never learn. EXPECT TO GET NERFED, THEN ANYTHING ELSE IS A BUFF.
Currently @ some T1 server in EU

ANET sold us on tooltip fixes and bug fixes and they failed to deliver. Regardless of the balance discussion, they failed to deliver on what was supposed to be this months big feature. So I can’t really have any expectations. ANET has a pattern of not following through so, prysin, I love you man, but how can you defend ANET on this? Vigorous training doesn’t even work. :/
actually, necromancers got a nice UI update…
With all sincerity, i do appreciate the oct 15 patch that Arena.net released.
So what’s the problem than?
This was supposed to be a groundbreaking patch for us rangers and Arena.net failed to deliver.
98% of the patch was directed to Pve
2% of the patch was directed to Wvw> Sic-em stealth, Gs
And if there are any “groundbreaking” for this patch it is the Humiliation Deceptive Logo; (Can not stealth) attached to Sick-em skill.
Did you know that Sick-em Stealth Reveal was to reveal thief stealth?
Did you know they changed it at the last minute?
Once again, the Humiliation Deceptive Logo; Stealth Reveal.. we must carry on our shoulder for the rest of our time as rangers.
With all sincerity,
I feel Arena.net is the one who don’t Appreciate the ranger class.
Arena.net we’ve been through so much Hurt, any time you mention any Hope for our class, you always give us Pain in return
Areana.net Did You Never Felt Our Pain?
Arena.net Is Pain ‘Your Show Of Appreciation’ For The Ranger Class?

Fairly bad patch content and execution wise. No offence, but you guys can’t seem to handle big patches, there are so many bugs and anemic changes.
I’m thinking you’re better off doing smaller bi weekly changes. Doing small piece meal changes every few months and hoping for a new meta to emerge is not a good way to balance things, when there are so many things that’s broken since launch.

I’d change that to bi-monthly. If they need to make sure they didn’t break something with the code or test something, that gives 2 weeks to test it, followed by a patch that fixes it if it needs fixing.

WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
