My take on our current situation….
I think the ranger community needs to stop regurgitating the obvious downfalls us rangers have. I get that we have voiced our opinions over the years and screamed for changes. We have to stop being Debbie Downers and start offering up reasonable suggestions. I want the Dev’s to come to the Ranger forum and see positive threads from us. I want them to see balanced suggestions and ideas.
I know that Ranger has been considered a step child and broken for 3 years but if you look at the last few balance changes they have had it certainly has brought Rangers up a few notches.
I still believe we have a ways to go but if everyone keeps harping on Anet about how broken we are, they aren’t going to be motivated to take our suggestions.
It’s become well known from the community that we complain a lot. So much so that other players have come in hear asking why we complain so much. Bottom line is that unless you main Ranger and have played them so much that you know them like the back of your hand, you won’t understand there shortcomings compared to the rest of the classes. Anet needs to visualize what the ranger is. Are we a Jack of All Trades? Are we a Hunter that decimates foes from a distance? Are we a class that relies on our Pets unique dynamics to overcome our enemy’s? What are we? I think once Anet nails down what a ‘Ranger’ is, then they can start repairing our traits and ability’s.
I know that you read and even wrote your opinion in the ranger CDI.
That is the result of the devs asking for our opinion and even so they didn’t have a dev to give attention to that topic besides the Community Manager and she tried her best to make that topic work, but even so we showing in there all our problems and giving TONS of constructive suggestions (among several ridicule ones …) barely anything changed.
In other words, seems that the devs aren’t sure what they want the ranger to be and in consequence players also don’t know exactly what they want.
Other problem is that the core of our mechanic is tied to a quite bad system, the pet, and since the devs stated that ranger is the pet class, we can’t do much in that field besides complain.
EDIT: Rangers aren’t “Debbie Downers”, we are just tired.

We HAVE given feedback, A LOT of feedback, we’ve given tons of great ideas in the ranger forums get we don’t get any of it. We haven’t had a dev post in here for a LONG time, a few of our suggestions on how to fix some of our kittenty traits got out onto other profs, EX: Striders defense should be “reflect projectiles while evading”, Mesmer got it instead.

I’m fairly certain it has been stated that Rangers are supposed to have the highest single target damage from range and be a skirmishing class based on sustained damage. Take that for what you will, but it sounds a lot like a class whose effectiveness decreases as group size increases.

Yeah, but at the same time it was stated that warriors drawbacks were supposed to be a lack of mobility, conditions, and their reliance on adrenaline.

I agree with the OP. Endlessly pessimistic posts aren’t going to encourage Anet to communicate with us. Any dev that might consider posting here knows that if they do they’ll just get spammed by a hundred “NOT GOOD ENOUGH!” posts and more complaints that aren’t even related to the original topic the dev was responding to. We’re really just hurting ourselves at this point.

It happens because the devs let it reach to that point.
If a dev posts here, obviously TONS of posts will pop with all subjects you can imagine because we know that it can take literally over an year to get another dev post around here.
I think a good starting point would be when the Druid is revealed, Irenio and/or other devs hopefully pop their heads in and engage conversation with us.
They need to do this as much as possible since we will only have one beta to test out Druid anyways. They have been doing it with the other professions, lets hope they do it with ours.
And just for the record, I agree with what everyone has said so far. I’m really just hoping that we can keep the ‘woe is me’ mentality to a minimum tomorrow and in the future.

OP , I get what you mean, Ranger forum has become a dark, filthy alleyway of bitter, beaten vagabonds. You want to see us become more positive because maybe our current way is only further provoking the ire of the mighty devs. Hate to be blunt, but no matter what we say, or how we say it, it matters very little, cuz the devs just don’t come here either way. Plain and simple.
Rangers complain about being bottom tier for 3 years and no end in sight. We’ve already solved all the issues many times over and it just falls on deaf ears, but, since Rangers are generally idealists, we continue doing it. Rangers started off as idealists and have had their hearts broken continually for 3 years, now they are cynics. Take a look at every Druid thread, majority just think its going to be total rubbish.
So, essentially your post is a complaint about Rangers complaining too much, when Rangers really only complain so much because they listen to others complain that they do not want Rangers in their group or complain that Rangers are useless. Until that complaining stops, Rangers will never stop.
Honestly, the Ranger is working as intended. They must want one class to be hated by the community to take the heat off everything else, otherwise, why not just fix it? The ideas are already out there with exactly how to do that, its just ignored. Therefore, working as intended.
