Well I think Ranger is freaking OP ...
I’ve had this happen to me. I’ve been chased by an ele recently in WvW. I jumped into the water with 20% hp and he had full. I was able to kill him and he didn’t even get me downed.
I think its a factor of people not being used to underwater skills, or worse, haven’t set up their underwater utilites.
Another thing to factor is that all of the ranger’s underwater weapons are very straightforward, in the case of the harpoon gun, or is an underwater version of the great sword, in the case of the spear. This means that rangers don’t have to adjust to anything when they go underwater since its practically the same skills as on land, except there, you have a Z axis to work with.

I agree. It isn’t even that just some skills on the weapons are incredible strong (what often is the case with underwater stuff). They are all fun to use and have their use. They should try to reach that for the land weapons aswell and I hope they rather buff other classes underwater than nerf ranger (despite maybe lick wounds, this should stop when pet gets CCed or dies but then again this is only justice for it being bugged since release on land).
Next to Lick Wounds actually working 90% of the time underwater (provided you call/switch your pet) and the fact that there is no Stomp; I believe most opponents are simply not accustomed to (or bothered to familiarize themselves with) fighting underwater.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people still use their level 1 Aquabreather with some level 20 blue item as their weapon and didn’t bother putting in an exotic rune+sigil either

yeah ranger is powerful underwater, but a good thief can keep evasion up 100% of the time underwater which is even more broken. Also i remember one time a mesmer beat me twice underwater then i fought and beat him on land and it was trivial so i think mesmers are probably even better (though i can’t remember if this was before our aquaman patch…)

Didn’t say I die but you wont kill a good thief either so when he returns from his stealth the 5th time critting your back you might chose to just run somewhere where he is 10x easier to kill if he choses to follow you. And suprisingly many do.
I would not want to see other classes buffed under water (in pure damage) it’s not like rangers have any extreme dps advantage to them (maybe some compared to some certainly not all) it’s just hard for them to avoid pet dmg with the same ridiculous ease as they do on land wich is the real problem on that part, and even if we were top dps in water, so kittening what? is that some kind of unacceptable hell?
As for lick wounds I think it’s perfect like that I think it should continue to heal and never be able to be completely cancelled (also on land) but it could be momentarily interupted and the ammount should be brought back down.

I’ve encountered this more than a few times aswell, agree 100% with you.
None of the classes are balanced underwater.
80 Thief – 80 Warrior – 80 Guardian – 80 Ranger
80 Mesmer – 80 Necromancer
I always hope and pray my opponents chase me underwater. It’s like we turn into a superhero or something.
Some of the smarter players have clued in, and now know not to chase a ranger into the water.
It all depends on how you spec and how smart the opposing player is. Sadly, or luckily, most players tend to be spamming fools without a hint of ability.
But that’s another thread.
Yeah, Spear/Jellyfish plays a lot like Melee/Healing Spring on land. Just Shark through the light mist for healing leaps, and Whirl for healing bolts. The main difference is the other cloud grants stealth and blinding bolts. And Jellyfish AoE does some nice numbers.

I’ve killed rangers on my engineer and I lol at them on my mesmer. As good as rangers are underwater, confusion mesmers are better (they may have patched this recently though). I’ve also soloed groups of four 80s on my level 5 ranger in the water. It was beautiful.
We excel underwater.

Yes we do… I remember 1v5ing (they were TERRIBLE players) underwater and got nicknamed Aqua Man by my friends because of it xD.

Yes I did notice we are pretty good underwater, I was being chased by 2 players in wvw, they had almost killed me so I ran into the lake and from downed state I was able to lure them to me, raise myself and kill them. Another time there was a kitteny player trolling people in the JP, knocked them into the water and slaughtered them.
I still think engineer fares better than ranger underwater..

Mesmer:
- Try Trident-1 in close range combat, also you get so much confusion on the Whaler it’s not even funny.
Thief:
- Take some initiative regeneration and spam Spear-5… you will literally evade 95% of the time.

What pets are you using underwater? I am using shark and blue jellyfish. The shark has a fear which is kind of a PITA in PVE but is great for WvW, and its F2 ability actually works without spamming. Does pretty god DPS and if he is gets in trouble switch to the jellyfish.

given our crappy #2 downed skill, i would rather that Anet shut down the game entirely then see more nerfs to a already heavily bugged skill.
