Guild Wars 2

Hi all,

Now i know we have a sticky dedicated to builds for ranger, but i just find there are so many builds that all do different things that i have got myself confused. I am at 80 with my ranger and am prepared to invest in a full set of exotics for my character but not sure which stats/ weapons to get. When i play on off peak times i run round getting world completion but i also like getting into wvw when its busy, and one thing i enjoy doing there is getting on the front lines with my greatsword, hacking and slashing, putting traps down and such but i find sometimes my survivabilty is lacking. Should i maybe swap to a completely condition based build using axe/torch and something else? Or should i use greatsword and go more p/v/t? Or is there a build that i should try that i am missing? I am clueless atm and would appreciate any help that you can offer!!

Well, depend on what you want with your ranger.. If you really like the melee aspect, then you’ll have to invest into armor with Thoughness, Vitality and/or Healing Power. Make sure some Power is also on the armor, so your GS attacks do at least some damage..
However, if you like to trap (and throw the traps, meaning you’ll be keeping ranged), I can advise a condition damage build (the traps will do condition damage, use a shortbow as well for some more condition).
And maybe you could try running a berserker ranger? It takes some getting used to (you are a glass cannon, but ranger has lots of natural evades), but you’ll be stomping invaders like kittens..

Is there a condition build that works with axe/torch and then whatever i want? because i want a build that will work in wvw as well as pve without having to sort of change gear and such all the time i also really like greatsword :p

You’re going to be changing gear a lot. I usually keep two sets on me at all times. PPCondi and PPMF or PPCondi or PPT. Eventually I’ll have a set of Celestial and stop switching and settle into the Jack of All Trades — Master of None roll the ranger fills nicely.

I was playing today with axe torch and short bow and was really enjoying it! Is there a build that would work well with these 2 weapon sets, im thinking about wvw and dungeons also :p

There is no one build and no one set of year that excels in all aspects of the game (PvE, dungeons, solo, small group, organized guild group, server zerg) for a ranger. This is somewhat true for most of the classes but especially true for the ranger.

Axe/torch and shortbow would work well in a trapper build for wvw. You could use karma to buy armor and trinkets (they cannot be made, on the other hand it is free! The weapons need to be bought from the wvw vendors).

This build woulds be great solo (you could take supply camps by yourself no problem), ok in small groups and weak in large ones.

There might be other builds for you. I would buy lvl 80 green gear with cheap sigils and cheap runes/orbs/crests and try it out to see if you like it before you spend your money/karma/badges on it.
