To Whom It May Concern,
Pets die a lot, so that means a percentage of our factored damage is debuffed, and some slot skills and traits get screwed over… Please do something about this because it’s not acceptable to have pets (a core class mechanic) become such a liability, on top of the other urgent issues such as difficulty hitting moving targets (in a game that was intentionally designed with movement based combat) with all of their skills.
I’m not trying to be negative, but I personally feel 4 years of known issues is long enough to warrant some kind of effort to fix or change these pet problems, and boost ranger damage. It also kittens me off that some professions are capable of effortlessly blasting players in wvw for massive damage, or melting players with condi spam, while rangers are stuck with kitten damage and kitten pets.
Yes, I actually wrote “kitten” and “kittens” and kept it clean, but feel free to add your own interpretation.
Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
Disgruntled player who is fed up with the lack of profession and combat development.

Inb4 you are bombarded with L2P replies or choose another class platoon arrives.
Majority of rangers are totally blinded by the fact their dps are shared with an a.i. mechanics that could easily be cc’ed in an aoe which either made it useless or simply dead = debuff output damage. And majority have this mentality that pets gives then extra damage lolz. Swapping pets to prevent it from being dead or cc is already a debuff as it gotta re-chase the target = dps loss. Unless the targets are practice golems then i have no say
I don’t think I have too much problem with my pets being cleaved down or condi bombed.
I can appreciate the need for,
In gw1 they understood interface for companions was important. So much so that not only did rangers have a HUD for their pets but also for their Hero companions AND the companions’ pets aswell where buffs/debuffs were displayed with the skill bar and attack settings.
In zergs and occasionally when in outnumbered fights if I’m not properly managing my pet are the only times they really die. Though, I also don’t use Birds or Felines, both of which do die usually within 60seconds even in a 1v1 if I’m not really careful about pulling it back and sending it in.
That said, I really do wish there was a more reliable way than just keeping your pets on passive while in zergs to keep them alive. Something like scaling their health depending on the number of players nearby similar to a champion. Knowing how much other players hate pets though, I could see something like that receiving a lot of “too OP” complaints.
As for poor tracking, Smokescale and Moa hit their targets pretty easily for the most part, both of which have 170 attack range on a number of their attacks. I think increasing the attack range for all pets would be an easy enough solution for Anet to implement. It might make dodging pets a bit more difficult due to phantom range but considering how rarely they hit their targets in their current state, I’d say it would be a more than acceptable change (also making it so that channelled attacks like drake F2s track during the cast animation).
And as has been said many times in the past…. Something I and many others really want, a freaking hotkey for keeping pets on passive.
Yes, it is a huge problem. No wonder we have people asking for petless ranger.
Pet is supposed to be our main mechanic and it has not been updated since launch. Have you guys seen the last Balance Patch ? Good luck all !

You can already keybind it.
Sure, buff pets, why not.
Just remember smokescale smoke assault and bristle back barrage will be heavily nerfed to compensate.

Do you even play ranger? I’m assuming no.
The word is “fix” pets.
Just remember that most pets miss moving targets and those 2 hit more reliably, nothing to nerf there buddy.
