Hello.

I have a lvl 80 ranger and I can’t decide what stats I need. I have 30/20/20/0/0 build and run with longbow (first 30 is must, so don’t say to change it :P ). At beginning I planned to gear for power/toughness/vitality, coz it worked for me in sPvP, but then I noticed everybody is going for DPS gear – for me that would be berskerer gear.
I’ll be doing mainly WvW and PvE. Berserker gear seems nice, but won’t it make me too squishy? During lvling I used mostly power/precision/crit dmg gear, so I won’t lose much survi now, but I don’t really know how would it look in WvW (can’t check, waiting for new PC and on old one I have 3 fps when zerg is nearby).

Well, I’ve done basically 40-nearly 70 in WvW running with my guildmates, and I’m stacked power/precision/crit damage as much as I can while leveling out there, and I’m finding myself doing respectable damage, and when using abilities right, having pretty decent survivability. With the Longbow knockback, gives you extra ranged time, and then swap to greatsword when you are forced, and it’s got good built in defensive abilities as well.

If the person is dead before they can really get to you, you don’t need the extra toughness and vitality, but that’s just my experience up to now. I won’t speak for when I actually get to 80, but I don’t see the mechanics changing, just the stats level.

Ok, thanks. And what about PvE? Some bosses have unavoidable dmg, so won’t full berserker die too fast?

I haven’t really noticed much unavoidable damage in PvE. There are a few things, like the Hunter’s Call used by the last boss in Honor of the Waves storymode, but that seemed to completely chew up anyone in my party whether they were wearing survivability gear or not. At least if you’re using a longbow with the Eagle Eye trait you can often position yourself very far from the boss and have maximum opportunity to respond to their actions.

You can get away with wearing full berserker gear in WvW if you feel like it. The environment isn’t like sPvP and some clever positioning and a lot of friendly bodies between you and the enemy can often keep you from getting hit much. However, it is always a risk and if you get caught out of position you’ll obviously die very quickly. (On the other hand, even someone in full defensive gear will die very quickly if caught in a bad place in WvW.) It’s probably worth it in general, but sometimes it’ll frustrate you.

I always liked ranger/hunter type of classes in MMOs because of their good survi compared to other ranged dps classes, so I decided to go for power/toughness/vitality armor and berserkers jewelery. Now only to choose runes…. xD

IMO throw in some valkyrie for vit for PVE but tbh wvw is a whole other animal. PVP is almost always different stats because players do not act like mobs.

If you are stubborn and obstinate in using a Longbow, 30/30/0/0/10 would maximise your dps.

If you get focused in WvW you die regardless of gear anyway, so just focus on offensive stats.

For PvE, open world content is faceroll easy for the most part, for dungeons, good luck if you are sporting full berserkers and having a squishy spec on longbow. The moment something so much as looks at you, you die.

Unless of course, you are farming one of the borderline to blatantly exploitable explorable dungeon paths, like CoF.

This is not true by any means. Both longbow and shortbow are highly viable weapons. Shortbow goes off condition damage and longbow goes off of big hits. I used a shortbow all the way up to 80 in PvE and it just got so boring by then that I switched to the longbow and the damage output seems about the same but I like seeing big hits.

For PvE I run a longbow main with a shortbow secondary.

That’s my build with traits included. It’s a signet build that is good in both WvW and PvE.

For armor I use berserker armor with runes of the scholar and I’m sitting at 3080 power and 33% base precision.

Stopped reading when I noticed the 3 signets in your build.

Those builds are boring, ineffective, and not at all suited for group play.

Leaf, I pretty much disagree with everything you have to say >.<

I’m using longbow and asking about stats. Not saying what stats I have and if I should use longbow. Understood?

I was thinking berserker can be too squishy and that’s what I made this topic.

Berserker gear is good. I don’t have trouble surviving. You just need to make sure you’re in a good position and if they start coming at you you use your point blank shot to push them back and DPS them some more.
