What is our purpose?
We can definitely spike.
Hunter shot for invis > qz + send pet > swoop > bash + pet f2 > maul
There’s your 9k spike. You can also spike with LB if you have the right spec and sigils from 1500 range.
We used to be able to spike with sb as well until they nerfed quickness.
We can spike just fine, and for conditions, try to find a way to be a triple threat. That is, make sure you keep bleed, poison, and fire up for the duration of a fight. You can do about 30k damage in 20s with only 500 in condition damage if you manage to average about 12 stacks of bleed and keep all 3 conditions up. Ranger has a variety of ways to do this.

Ranger actually has pretty strong conditions, for condi spike try this:
Axe/Dagger (blood, corruption) krait runes, rabid amulet
2 III
2 II
4 VI VII
6 IV VII XIII

pet is personal choice, I find the reef drake to be effective as this build has such a wide variety of conditions and that adds one more type (with so many different condis it is tough to clear them all)
troll unguent, sun spirit, LR, sharpening stone, entangle
with perm fury uptime (with fury=59% crit chance) and 10-25 stacks of bleed as well as almost if not all other condis in the game, most people crumble to this build
The build has very low cooldowns and high condi spike
it has some tankiness, but you must play it very aggressively to win (you must kill them as quickly as possible as you can’t outlast them)
With the Spirit, 2 sharpening stones, entangle (and the krait elite skill proc which applies bleed, torment and poison), axe bleeds, axe chill axe weakness, dagger poison, dagger cripple and bleed, bleed on crits, drake confusion they should always be suffering a variety of conditions
i just fought a warrior earlier in pvp and he was shocked that i was able to outdps him. i told him i was running a zerker build that’s why i was putting out that amount of damage but he said that it still didnt make sense. he said that an archer should not be able to outdps a warrior. he sounded really confident about it and said that warrior is the best class in gw2 and he said he saw it on youtube. idk what youtube is feeding these players nowadays. lol
i think most new warriors dont know that when a ranger is in flames, their stun spamming through their hammer is useless. i say ranger is an excellent duelist given that the person playing it has spent enough time to know its weakness and strengths.

Our (Ranger’s) purpose is to fight on forums instead of InGame – since we lack stuff there. Once we won the WAR here, we can enjoy those minimal contents finally

Indeed and for that to happen the war will only be won if the generals will listen to the troops who actually play rangers.
We can’t spike , we can’t apply condition as effective as other classes we can’t tank as effective as other classes, what is our purpose? oh and our pets die 90% of the time in group fights, which account for most of damage.
we have no purpose, next patch Rangers will be turned into NPCs so quick! reroll another class!
It doesn’t matter what is said in this thread, you have an agenda and you can’t be convinced. Some people prefer to whine instead of coming to conclusions based on thorough experimentation. A lot of you speak like you know what you’re talking about. But you only think you know.
Honestly, does every class have a purpose other than being fun to play from a design standpoint, anyway? Is there enough different purposes for 8 classes? :P I think it is the wrong way to look at any class, even the ones with obvious design paths like thieves with stealth; instead you kind of have to look at the details like, rangers having some unique support buffs, for example.

Rangers can be played any role, totally.
And a class that has everything – can’t be best at everything.
We have a GS build for burst spike. We have LB for high constant damage. We have many build for Conditions or Highly Evasive / recuperative builds.
We also have unique SPIRITS that no other class can be proud of.
- You see – you can’t be unique at everything. You just have to be good at what you do.
