In the past I have used pets just to use names I liked.

Spider – Areop Enap
Sylvari Hound – Leafeon
Ice Drake – Feraligator
Jellyfish – Squishy (I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be my Squishy)
Raven – Lenore
Hyena – Shenzi (but almost went with Ed)
Bear – Ursa
Moa – Polly or Sam
Boar – Pumba

But really, I want one that looks like Pikachu, because that’s what I want to shout whenever my ranger says “I Choose you!”. Aaaaand if you haven’t thought of it already, you better not steal it from me! :P

Anyways, all of my pet names are references, some obvious, some not, but kudos to you if you got them!

So far the most recent pet name I saw that I loved was someone who beat me to it, and named their shark Bruce.

I forgot. I named my shark Bruce :P

I named my wolf Sebastian, and my Lashtail Devourer is Terry.

Well, I named my River drake Megazord(Power Rangers), my Raven Huginn Muginn(Norse Mythology) and I have a general nickname I give the rest of my pets: Companion Cube(Portal)

My Shark is called Tiburonsin, name that Dory gives to Bruce (big white shark) in finding nemo, the name is in spanish.

My in game name is Beer Time and my brown bear is Bear Time.
Also i have seen a spider named: We are the Borg

My pig was called Snooki for awhile – I got a few laughs.

my first devourer – Chip
my other devourer – Also Chip

Some names I use are just honoring past pets, so they are personally significant and not particularly of interest here. Also, because we have to rename them every time we reslot them, many times, I will just name them according to type rather than naming specific ones specific names. For instance, I will name bears “Cuddles” unless I am using two of the same type, in which case I will name the other something different, which is often just what stikes me as appropriate at the time. Some examples would be:

Bears: Cuddles
Spiders: Legs and sometimes Gams.
Cats: Rover

Specific names I have used that may be interest to the topic on hand:

Armor Fish: Aquarium (because he is a fish tank)
Lynx: Url (Pronouced, Earl, but URL because he is a links .. err .. Lynx).
Wolf: Therewolf (in answer to the age-old question: Werewolf?)

And sometimes I will name my Actodus, Bob. There is no particular reason. It always amuses me to have a pet named Bob, for some reason. It is just a tradition I have from playing pet classes for many years.

I played a WoW Hunter back when the level cap was 60, and I named my tigers Spot. If we had a tiger type cat, I would name him that here.

Back during the beta weekend events, I ran with a Black Widow Spider named Scarlett Johansson. I got a couple laughs out of it.

Murellow: Currently named Bubbi Wubbi. Previously named Cutie Pie, goes through a lot of names. Was briefly Pinkie Pie just to annoy my group mates.
Shark: Omnomnom (saw somebody else here named it that too.)
Armorfish: Bismuth. Not silly, just in homage to Dwarf Fortress.

Most ranger pets I’ve seen just have the default name.

My most used pets are Waffles (bear), Sandwiches (eagle) and Zazzles (lynx).

i am in the guild lincolnforce which has the tag bomb so i name my pets like this my dog is stink(bomb) moa is atomic(bomb) they all go along this line

I have a pet named Rich Mithril Vein, gets me a lot of tells from people who got fooled by it.

My drake is called Ranger Blast Finisher in honor of being the only blast finisher we have available(but it never works)

Only one that’s not part of the theme is Charlie (the Tuna) I would hope everyone here knew the theme. Although now that I think about it, naming my shark Arcturus would be fitting.

I was going to name my drake Fluffykins.
Hubby gave me side-eye.
Named him Bane instead. He did not want to run around with a “Fluffykins”.

Not sure if it’s funny but I call my pig “Bacon.” Consider it motivation by fear. He knows what is in store for him if he does not perform.

How is it possible to change a name of pets? Every time I change my pets (not switch active pet), their names reset.

Open up your pet menu “K” and and there is a little icon above the main pet picture that looks like a pen and quill, click on that to rename your pet.

My Armored Fish pet is named Captain Fantastic, does that win?

I named my junglespider “Ex Wife” because it shoots venom like she used to do

In my guild this leads to several inside jokes like: : “hey my ex wife got downed again” – " yeah and your spider too"
“My Ex Wife is being attacked” – “who cares noone liked her anyway..”

I tried to name my Hyena Mr Bitey but it was unacceptable for some reason (as was Mister or Mista Bitey).

I can’t remember what I call my Jellyfish now, but I did call him Squidly at one time and Squishy another. Ohhh… I should call him Irukandji!

I named my shark Fluffy, only to later find out that that’s actually the name of an event boss fish. I was rather dejected.
