Hulk Roaming Montages/Build Vids
I always rage but never quit.
Hi all!
I don’t play a ranger, because I don’t like the ‘range’ part of the word.
Today however, I encountered a ranger who used only melee weapons, I believe sword/dagger and greatsword. Had an interesting duel with him, and watched him duel others. It looked like a lot of fun.
I asked him for his build, but he wouldn’t share. So I’m asking for some help here in determining his build.
He dealt damage mostly through conditions. He used condition damage stone and reduction food. Also, he used at least three signets. One for movement speed, one for condition removal and one for regeneration. His healing skill was troll unguent. The pet appeared to be very glassy, and looked like a jaguar. But can’t be sure about that.
My hits didn’t do as much damage as usual, so I guess a lot of toughness. He also used some kind of fire field move twice, dunno what that is.
My knowledge of ranger is poor at best, but i do recall seeing something on the forum here that was similar. So if you guys can help me out here, I might start the tedious levelling process…again.
Thanks!
His fire shield was his sword 2 skill and Great sword 3 skill, both are leap finishers. This means he was also probably using torch as his off hand because the 5 skill creates a fire field. What color was the cat? If it was black/dark grey it was the jaguar. Squishy, but hits hard and auto crits during its stealth.
Thats pretty much our best build at the moment. Its just an apothecary bunker. As Axyl said he was prob using torch in offhand for Bonfire which is the #5 skill.

When you say the pet appeared to be very glassy, what were you seeing? Cats are glassy, but with the typical high-healing beastmaster build all pets have fantastic regen, so the health may drop quickly, but bounce right back up in no time, unless they’re taking a ton of damage.
Honestly, I was a bit preoccupied with the ranger to monitor the cat. But the posted build seems close. Gonna do some more research in the afternoon.
Seems great fun to play like a thief but without the cheese. I mean the guy was taking on 1v2’s like it was nothing.
there are several variations of the “BM Bunker” build all of them are fun. Since i started playing mine, i havent touched another character..
and yes the playstyle is a blast, the skill level required to play it well is quite high but once you have it down…you are certain to be Effin couches in no time at all!
Hah! Sounds good.
Although just killing people isn’t enough for me, it has to be a challenge. That’s why I main a warrior in wvw.
The challenge coming from a high learning curve high reward type of thing should be fun as well.
I do wonder how this build fairs against other bunkers.

Are you sure this is right? OP said he was using a sword/dagger & GS combo. I thought that was a power/bunker build, not condi. Though he did say he was using conditions. Really confused here.
Fire trap works nicely with the leaps from sword 2 and gs 3.
Sometimes the builds never posted are actually the best ones. I personally run gear and a build that is not conventional (and rarely lose 1v1). He likely just tweaked the BM build of traits/skills and is running a mix of condi and healing power, maybe even Settler’s gear. Personally, I prefer to run builds that are not “meta” builds, so if skills or attributes are “nerfed” I am likely left unaffected.

yes, that’s what confused me a bit too…I think S/D + GS (+ maybe traps) + cond. damage isn’t that common. But well, there are for sure many variations out there which aren’t common. On the other hand, I’m playing S/D + GS, mostly cerlic gear + mix’n match and on some occasions I’m mixing in fire trap too…

I play GS with traps at the moment, its actualyl really fun. The build was meant for running with my guild for zerg battles, so GS + traps + bunkerish build lets you get right in there with plenty of AoE, but I’ve found by simply have a SB as my alt weapon its great for 1v1s as well as you just play as a trapper ranger with slightly less condition damage but considerably more direct damage. Its a lot of fun.

Yeah its the same build, cleric’s armor set is just swapped for apothecary for the condi damage instead of power. I assumed he was running condi bunker because the op said he was using condi crystals. OP also said that the person was getting fire fields so I believe he just mistook torch offhand for dagger as this would be the only way to get fire fields, unless one used flame trap but the OP also said the guy was running 3 signets so it must have been a torch.
Ah, missed the 3 signet part of the description, my bad.

Maybe he was using Runes of Fire?
Sounds like he was using a mix of whatever honestly, GS isn’t really centered around conditions, mostly powered.
The link to my video is pure melee/condition based with sword/torch and axe/dagger.
Most of the kids you see dueling and doing well pulled their builds from these forums and pretend to try and be elitists, the ones that don’t share builds. Well, check my link for a full explanation.
Also just to clear up one of my least favourite misconceptions the ‘range’ in ranger has nothing to do with attacking at range.
It means someone who ranges around – travels a lot, often off-road out in the wilderness relying on their own skills and wits to get by. Think forest rangers, army rangers and Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings (which is where the fantasy archetype started, and it hasn’t really changed much since).
They can and do use ranged weapons in a lot of games (in GW1 they were a purely ranged DPS class) but it’s not a core feature of the class, certainly not in GW2 where we actually have about the same number of melee and ranged weapons (3 ranged vs. 2 melee 2/main hand weapons, but also 3 off-hands for the sword) and almost every ranger you meet will be carrying either a sword or greatsword as one of their sets.
Its BM Bunker Build…
Its still the same build i created months ago.
I have a guide for it
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/BM-Bunker-Build-Guide/first#post1845851
a movie guide for it
and there have been countless BM Bunker build videos posted by other people besides myself as well.
Why he’d try and keep that a secret I don’t know..
He’s trying to be cool and mysterious? Maybe he’s RPing…
Some of us have been BM bunker since, what, November or so?
The overall build is far from secret. But who can fault the guy for wanting to keep some personalized variation to himself?
