I have a level 30 human ranger and I’ve been playing with the longbow as my main and the short bow as my second. I would say my gw2 experience has been pretty hard up to this point. I play PvE mainly and I die quite a bit. Well today, I just happened to pick up a two handed great sword in a random drop, noticed I could equip it. Really had no idea that rangers could wield swords. Well I’m doing like 3 times the damage I was doing before. I was having trouble doing this one quest with a bunch of trolls but after having the sword, I just blew right through it. The game seems like a breeze right now. If this normal? Do most rangers have a bow as their main hand and a sword as their second? I’m doing so much more damage now it’s ridiculous. I feel like a ranger/warrior now. But I was also wondering why there are so many complaints from the ranger class? Is it because bows do not do enough damage?

PvE is not the big deal, PvP is !
You think you’re doing a lot of damage, try 1v1 PvP and you’ll see you have almost no chance to win the fight.

PS : I’m a lvl 80 Ranger, full exo (weapons, jewels and armor), and i’ve tried almost every build.

For PvE, Dungeons is the area in PvE where you can see what all the issue is about.

Lvl 30 is still too low to see what many of us are unhappy about. I would suggest taking your time to enjoy your leveling.

Firstly, I really hate to not be explicitly informative in my posts, but you could literally answer your own question by spending 15 minutes reading through some of the most recent posts. You can either click on the stickied thread above posting all of the bugs for the ranger or you can view the many available recent threads QQing about how the class mechanics are out of whack.

At the time of posting the 5 posts just below yours all answer your question to various degrees.

I’d say high level PvE is also a problem, especially Orr. The Risen won’t attack your pet if their life depended on it meaning you have to kite to stay alive resulting in the pets not being able to attack moving targets coming into play.
