What level can you start to melee?
Level 1.
Seriously, just buy yourself a Greatsword or a Sword/Dagger combo and have at it! ;P

Ok, I wasn’t sure.
Another question if I may?
Can you get the pet to attack without hitting the attack command, maybe something like assist on your target automatically or at least attack the first thing that attacks you?

See the little red icon with the crossed swords? If that’s on (as opposed the blue one, which is “passive” mode), your pet should be attacking what you attack, and/or should be attacking what attacks you.

Just be aware that when in “Aggressive” stance, the pet can essentially red zone. In this.. uh.. “mode” they run around aggroing absolutely everything in sight. So, make sure you get in the habit of pressing F3. Its useful beyond keeping your pet from red zoning as well.
Have fun!

NEVER FORGET
I’ve been melee since level 1, and I’m level 31 now.
Axe/torch and sword/dagger makes quick work of any enemy, with all the conditions I can send out.
In regards to the aggro zone of pets, they changed that in the latest patch, so that pets don’t create aggro when just running around. (afaik at least)
The pet only ever attacks anything, if I am hit or I hit something. It doesn’t attack, even if it ikitten, only me.

Not anymore Your pet attacks when you get attacked now so no useless aggro.
