What pets have you have found to be really effective? I currently use the Brown Bear for soloing (he tanks well), and the Hyena for DPS.

I haven’t done a ton of PvP, but when I have I’ve used the Krytan Drakehound for all his movement-controlling abilities.

im still using the eagle cause it flies!! i rotate it with the black bear usually..
i need to really look into best pets for different situations.

I use a combination of Bear and Moa. Bear is mostly for when I run dungeons or find myself facing 3+ mobs. I run Moa for dungeons and group play.

For WvWvW, I run Devourer and Spider since they are ranged pets.

I use a bear and a boar. Both good tanks and the charge for the boar is pretty nice.

I use 2 cats and constantly swap them for the buff. I have a heavy BM build. I have also done well building up 25 charges of bond. I am not a big pvper as of yet but I can see already that pve pet use will be drastically different from pvp pet use.

I’ve been using my trusty Fern Hound from the beginning and now when raiding dungeons I’ve used a cave spider as a ranged pet.

I use a Red Moa for various reasons. It can buff your party with Fury (20% Crit) and also has attacks like the tripple one that is good for stacking up might when you use Rampage as One.

Lots of Dungeon encounters I find my pet just getting killed quickly, so sometimes I just keep my Moa next to me for buffing.

I have a Murellow instead of a bear. It is quite tanky just like the bear but it has a poison AoE combo field that I find better than the bears “Shake it Off” (Even though some encounters this ability is priceless, just switch to it on those encounters ^^)

I have a polar bear that I use for tanking purposes, and an alpine wolf for DPS. I haven’t really experimented much, tbh. I tame everything I come across but I haven’t played around with ’em yet.

I like the spiders, and I am really liking the snow owl. I use the shark in water. Spiders cause they are ranged, owl cause it flies and seems to do better than the eagle.

I use my polar bear for tanking purposes, when I go around soloing. For anything with a group, I pull out my cave spider for ranged combat.

My problem is that I’ve built a condition ranger with the shortbow and axe/torch weapons, so during group battles, the bleeds and poisons applied by my pets are kinda worthless, getting bumped off the board by those of us with stronger condition damage. I’m not really sure the best way to deal with this sort of thing.

I use a Raven, I have a lot of pet buffs and regens going so it doesn’t die too quickly and I like its damage and Blind effect. I use a Black Bear as my alt, because it tanks well and has a decent attack. I would use an Atroducus or Murelow because they have even better effects, but they are too ugly.

I only use the polar bear right now. I find it compliments my playstyle pretty good.

I’ve found the Hyena to be rather effective. It’s F2 skill spawns another hyena for a short duration, both pets are capable of causing bleeds and knockdown.

I like the wolf overall, it has nice CC (fear 2s) on its F2 ability and the leap knockdown, I also like either the red moa/jungle stalker for buffs. For dungeons I use the arctodus as a second pet but my wolf never really leave my side.

PvE – Eagle and murellow. Tank with AOE poison and Dps with bleeds

PvP – Eagle and Drakehound. hard to target DPS with Bleeds and Dps with Immobilise ability

Currently using Alpine Wolf and Brown Bear at Land – Shark and Armored Fish underwater.

Must admit.. Alpine Wolf does hold a soft spot on me and is rather an awesome companion.

Land – Lynx and Polar Bear.
Water – Shark and Armored Fish

I don’t like PvP so I don’t much care what pets I use when I go exploring in it.

PvE: Brown bear for condition removal, my kryptonite as toughness stacking ranger. Maybe black bear if conditions ain’t a threat. I use a spider with it, since a pet that is ranged and can immobilize is useful in dungeons and overall.

PvP: Hyena, because they are fairly strong, and spider, since players rarely seems to bother much with pets that isn’t directly in their face.

PvP : Spider and bear

Pve: Spider and FernHound or Bear

Water: Shark and Whiptail Devourer

Right now, I’m using the jungle spider mostly (shark in the water) – it’s fun to watch the poison shots and think, “incoming!”.

Carrion Devourer for general WvW because of range + AoE poison cloud and Red Moa for buffs while sitting on a keep wall defending.

PvE? Meh, never mattered much to me but I do like the Murrelow for tanking and poison.

Murellow. It’s a tanky bear and the only pet whose special ability is a combo field. Usually have the drakehound as off-pet because of its multiple stun abilities.

I’m atleast partially a beastmaster spec, so my Alpine Wolf can tank okay. But the F2 is so unresponsive that I use a River Drake for pure DPS. Popping Rampage as one+River Drake F2 gives so much might.

If I come across an exceptionally difficult encounter (Soloing an off the beaten path event boss) I switch to two bears. Gives you more time not monitoring your pet.

I like using my two Bears for Soloing, But if I get into a group, I like to switch to once of my Spiders for the ranged abilities.

Jungle spider for ranged damage/snares. Also is primary pet for sPvP.
Wolf for fear. This prevents getting stomped while downed, which makes it essential for any PvP build. Secondary pet PvP.
Bear/Arctodus to tank PvE or just for survival in WvW.
Jaguar for straight up DPS. All attacks from their stealth crit and damage done while stealthed doesn’t break it, which makes Jag stealth + Quickening Zephyr pretty awesome as long as your target is standing still.
Drake of some sort for PvE AoE.

Everything else is for fluff/fun. If spirit health gets buffed, I might run a support build and take a blue moa, but I won’t mess with it until then.

ranged pets for boss fights , eagle/polar bear for pve dps or tank depending on what i need but i use the eagle for most standard pve stuff.

PVE: mostly lynx.. SOOOO much damage and vuln is really nice and polar bear for tanking. Sometimes in dungeons I use moas and hounds for heal or knockdowns. Another note about the Lynx is the F2 leap skill is great for moving things as it reorients on the target as long as they are still in rage.
