What's worse then being a Longbow/Shortbow user?
how dare you complain about ranger’s damage, ranger is not supposed to do any damage, damage done by ranger is the gift from the god’s mercy to this class; look at ranger weapons’ skill sets, none of them are about dealing damage, they are all about the love from the mother nature, you should use your attacks heal enemies show your care to them, lets just take off the weapons run into enemies and become a part of nature by lying on the ground like a real ranger.
well according to the peter guy that spoke about the issue with this “shortbow glitch”, he says that other ranger skills will likely get buffed to promote the use of non spamming builds………like the thief…..wait a second
in Soviet Russia classes with range in their name do the least ranged damage!
crickits 80 ranger
crickets 80 warrior – current main

This just became the most fun profession in the game. Hail Melandru!
wonder if I can changed my guild crest to a bullseye, so in pvp they can find me even faster> hmmm
Jeeeze please stop with the Ranger has Range in its name comments go look the term up, then just stop.

Sure, no problem. From this page right on this very homepage:
Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.
// Edit: Oh, and btw: this is the only definition that matters since it defines how the creators of the game/profession see it. And if you pull some other dictionary into the discussion I’ll bring up Wikipedia and Wikipedia says that there are rangers who use Arctic Warfares – and everyone who has played CounterStrike knows how this ends. ^^

Baelnorn, by your own statement Rangers are masters of spirits, traps, and pets over bows then, because that page only has one sentence about bows. The entire rest of the page is dedicated to traps, spirits, and pets.
Whaaaaaat?!

I’ve played many an hour of the well balanced e-sport series Counter Strike, do you mean we’re getting AWPs to make up for the rest of our weapons :P
@nldixon.8514:
See my post in the other thread, I won’t have the same discussion in 2 separate threads.
People wanting Rangers to be more like howitzers and less like the versatile class they are doesn’t make it so.
Less QQ! The ranger is still an amazing profession – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Less-QQ-State-of-the-Ranger/first#post405502
@nldixon.8514:
What options would you suggest for serious sPvP? Where’s the ranger’s versatility there?
Do pet master builds work in sPvP, with the massive delay/unresponsiveness of the F2 skill and the pets’ inability to hit moving targets?
Do nature spirit builds work in sPvP, with the absurdly low number of spirit hit points and the really bad proc chance?
Trap builds work extremely well in sPvP but only because all maps have clearly defined choke points and locations where the enemy team must come through at one point or another, giving a trap build an inherent advantage. In wuvwuv trap builds lose quite alot as well since the terrain doesn’t cater to them as well, but they are still very useful (more than the others, at least).
So, where does that leave us? Yep, traps. What do traps profit from? Yep, condition damage. What’s the natural weapon for a condition damage build? Yep, short bow. You’re right, that’s an awesome amount of versatility.
If it’s so great, you don’t need to self promote. People will go to your thread on their own.
@Baelnorn
Pet builds DO work in sPvP. Especially ranged pets in combination with traps and the control you get from using a longbow and axe/warhorn. You can easily keep an opponent (or a group of opponents) moving slowly while your pet and your allies open up on them.
Spirits are pretty terrible, I don’t think anybody would disagree with that. Spirit of Nature is pretty awesome and can turn the tide of a battle, especially with Nature’s Vengeance. The rest of them are pretty shoddy though.
Also, just for the record, not all of the traps benefit from condition damage. I would suggest you head to the Mists and do a little testing. You might be surprised.
[Edit: For the record, pets do need some work, but they can still be effective in PvP.]
Agreed with nldixon – although I would say pets are vital to any proper build (as opposed to simply being somewhat effective). Rangers should have their bars hot keyed and excercising control of their pets extensively while in combat.

Self-promote? LoL, as if I could give 2 shhiittts about that! I simply didn’t want to bother restating my entire summary about this again in a relevant, but separate, topic.

Then why are you posting in most topics that are against the recent nerfs? You made your argument in your thread which not many agree with as you can see. I’m seeing maybe 2 people calling hundreds of other players bad players if they disagree with the nerf. We get it. You think we suck and you think rangers are fine. You made a thread about it. If we want to read it, we will.
I don’t think it’s a matter of thinking other people suck at playing a Ranger. I think it’s the fact that everybody else has the “I’m taking my ball and going home” attitude instead of trying something different.
There are lots of awesome Ranger builds that require a little time and effort to figure out, but once you do it’s very rewarding.
The problem is that Ranger isn’t a class where you can bind a macro to your keyboard/mouse and Bull’s Rush/Frenzy/100B or C&D/Steal/Backstab your way to victory.
You mean like thief or warrior ;p
I think we all tried many different builds. We’re not such a horrible profession that we can’t play the game but we need some help. There is only you and docmed spreading the idea that we’re fine. I think that speaks volumes.

Oooo, can I have a howlitzer as a pet? I would pay a metric kittenton of karma for that.

I’m all over these forums because I think it is worth countering all the negativity surrounding this class. You won’t find top tier players coming here often (not saying I am per say, but I definitely consider myself above the average player), and consequently you will find an overwhelming majority of players who simply haven’t put the time in to learn the class and are QQ’ing the most known build received an unintentional nerf. I still run SB and it is a ddaammnn good weapon.

This was one of the reasons I quit Rift. Everything was so macro optimized that for PVP folks actually hitting skills individually were a sick disadvantage.
For some reason, just kiting around and hitting 1-1-1-1-1-1 is not my idea of fun… (Hmmm sounds familiar).
Actually regarding the short-bow, it’s never a question of just hitting 1 and waiting for death. The fun part is sending in the pet (I like felines F2 pounce for opener), rolling through the enemy, hitting 3 on the flipside, and then QZ and crossfire for the kill. And with beastmaster 5 points you can keep the quickness going even longer by pet swapping. Alas, those were the days…. last week.
Ok. I consider myself an above average player too. I think this nerf was unwarranted. You made your point, most people disagree with it.

I don’t think I’ve ever said that Rangers are “fine”. Check my posts and I’ve clearly said in several threads that there are aspects of the class that need work.
That being said, there are still plenty of things the Ranger class has going for it. Most people want to stand back and nuke on a Ranger while their pet goes to town. That’s not the most effective way to play a Ranger. Maybe it will be at some point down the road, but right now you just have to try a little harder.
There’s a reason why there are traits focused on weapon and pet swapping for the Ranger.
Considering all the issues that the class has, I think that nerfing it was quite stupid. Fixing issues to give people more options would be much more intelligent. There are A TON of build I’d LOVE to play and run them in my mind but alas they have a bug or are not working as intended or…

With your same logic – why isn’t there one post topic regarding people’s QQ’s? I’ll continue to post when and wherever I want, but as noted, I could give 2 sshhiittss about self-recognition.
Ok. I consider myself an above average player too. I think this nerf was unwarranted. You made your point, most people disagree with it.
The SB nerf was unintentional (read the patch notes). I would hope and assume it will be corrected. As noted in my other post, I will continue to comment as much as I see fit, sorry you don’t like my posts – on second thought, I’m not.
I agree that it should all be moved to the same thread. You can post wherever you want. Freedom of speech. However, I think you need to stop telling people that they suck. It’s not really an argument. It’s just you being an kitten
The SB nerf was INTENTIONAL. They said it in the ranger threads. They even changed the patch notes since. They tried to lie to us calling it an animation bug which nobody had experienced. Then they nerfed SB thinking we would be fooled. That was the worse part for most of us and why many are upset.
The fact of the matter is, myself and structured competitive tourney teams (the minority), are finding high success with the class. Which leads me back to my original point of players not understanding the class and simply being unskilled – which is more than a fair argument. I would be baffled if any significant portion of these QQ’ing players have tried more than 1 build. Keep in mind, I’m not saying there aren’t things that should be/will be fixed – I’m promoting the current viability of the class.
Not to mention, this class is still insane in PvE. In fact, it could be nerfed 15% across the board in all categories and would still dominate PvE (just like every other class). As this discussion is organized mainly around wvw and spvp, i continue to state this class is not for the unskilled and still a great/proportionally balanced class.
You were wrong about the SB nerf being unintentional. I’m going to wager that you’re wrong about other things ;p
Out of substance? Kind of like your main argument of ‘’you must suck at your class?’’ loltastic. You’re narcissistic and like to hear yourself. You love to think that you’re better than most. Good for you. You’re totally amazeballs at a game. WOOP WOOP! The rest of us humble humans are asking for fixes. Kthanx!
