On my original ranger, I named pets by holding a contest in Map chat whenever I tamed one. The first response that didn’t risk Terms of Service violation got accepted, no matter what it was. My Guildmates named my Fern Hound since the Sylvari Tutorial was pretty quiet when I made the character, and Map Chat named everybody else. All was going well until the Snow Leopard, when Hoelbrak map chat decided it was sick of me I guess. When I pick my Ranger back up, I’ll probably start doing this again.

Yeah, he’s the one I mainly use. Him and Ungoliant the Spider, who’s named after the ginormous Spider God from J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Silmarillion”, who was on the same tier of cosmic entities as the guy Sauron used to work for before his solo career. The rest of the “Have Map Chat name my pets” experiment was fun, but not super clever. Now that my Ranger swapped races from Sylvari to Norn, those two are probably the only ones I’ll keep.

I tried to give them all funny names(went with a plant dog named “Yes This Is Dog” and two devourers named “Chip” and “Also Chip”) but as I started to chane pets way to often I name them all “Bob” from now on.

It’s a funny name. Bob.

I have a pink moa and a pig named Justin Bieber

The rest of my zoo is named after a celebrity or Ghostly Hero.
oh and my polar bear is named Bipolar Bear

Any time I have a spider or devourer out they are “Facehugger” and my murellow is always “Juvenile Yao Guai”. I have fooled more than a few newbies with that one. Any pigs are “The Great Hambino”.

I also have a spider named Peter Parker. I guess we aren’t as clever as we thought we were.

As for mines:

Snowleopard: “Snowblind” , my real-world favorite animal, he’s always out when in snowy places, if not everywhere else ^^
Black Jaguar: “Twinfire” , he gets the tropical places like jungles and beaches
Shark: “Razor” , cuz it’s the only other name I can think of for a great white that isn’t “jaws” -_-’
My 2nd aquatic is an ice drake, but I haven’t found something that sticks yet.

BTW, does anybody else besides me feels like some pets are more bugged than others?
I love my Snowleopard, but I feel he dies faster and is overall weaker than my jaguar, even though they’re both felines and have the same stats?

In games where I get to use pets, I normally come up with funny or interesting names. So far in GW2 I have not named any of the pets on my ranger!

Some ideas I have but as yet not used are;

*Raven: Quoth – yeah that’s a bit obvious but I like Poe!
*Brown Bear: Bruin – an old European name for a brown bear, not taken from any specific source story.
*Lynx: Miss Ing – my creativity is slipping!
*Jaguar: Epyte – mirror it!
*Marsh Drake: Errol – Diskworld ref.
*Shark: Mack – as in the knife!

These names are just some that have come to mind whilst playing my Charr ranger. I may use some of them but will likely come up with better names if I eventually name the pets.

My Drakehound is named : Whos A Good Boy
Because it looks like he is one VERY happy doggie when he runs around, its like he is chasing a stick all the time, or trying to fetch bugs

The best pet name I have ever seen was a Pig named “Chauvinistic”. XD

I have a Murellow named Stinkmeaner.

I have a Pig named: “Bacon”.
brown bear: “juvenille polar bear”
polar bear: “juvenille brow bear”
it’s funny, everyone look like? “wth? I’m color-blind?”
and I do the same with the pink moa and blue moa

but I always use spiders for PVP… but don’t have named yet… suggestions?
I liked the “veteran” or “elite” in front of the name = D

Fern hound is called Jabbie (meshing of my 2 dogs names Jessie and Abbie)
Shark is called Porkchop
Jungle Stalker is called Hairball
Hawk is called Pigeon
My Spiders (shudder) are called Fugly
I call my moas variations of Pinky, Climpy and Binky depending on the colour

None are very witty or original but I love them

Have to say I like Indoles.1467’s WvW idea for names :P

I call my bear “Hurr hurr im a burr” to accentuate how blatantly stupid pets are atm I used to use wolves but after one pulled aggro on half a dungeon I decided I couldn’t be bothered using them any more and just went passive

I just started my current Ranger, but on the last Beta Weekend, I had a pet for most of the major My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic characters.

I call my spiders “Charles”, wolves “Jeffrey”, bears “Toby”, and raven “Poe” in PvE. In PvP I replace “Juvenile” with “Champion” or “Veteran”. From what I’ve seen, veteran gets the best response. Enemy players tend to attack it much less.

Well my guild has as tag [Boom]. So i named my Eagle Sonic. My pig Baby. Just need to find a good name for my Fernhound who is my default pet.
