What trait lines will you take?
same as now.
marksmanship
skirmishing
wilderness
All the traits I use now are still in the same lines…
Are you asking for PvP or PvE?
Was thinking of trying a MM/NM/BM build for perma boon hijinks, but probably just as a fun build for open world stuff. But I’d also like to try a WS/BM build with Barkskin and Beastly Warden, plus skirmishing possibly focused on traps/condition damage. Improved condi dmg plus a taunting pet could make shortbow so much more viable… I really hope. Q.Q
Doubt my main DPS build for dungeons will change much though unless greatsword is definitely better than sword, now.
MM/NM/BM
I’ve always been BM… I’ve occasionally steered away to try different things but I made the Ranger because I like bow wielding pet classes, albeit I find most of the pets visually kind of boring.
The buffs to us in this update/expansion looks very good but the test will be how well it stacks up against everyone else’s buffs. That aside I’m optimistic the build I run now will be way better.
I’ll likely be a Druid with BM and NM. However if anet kittens up big time with Druid I’ll either take marksman, Skirm or WS… Not sure which yet, probably WS or Skirmishing tbh
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Wilderness survival, nature magic, skrimishing.
because its the best
^ Usually only characer that i play on
Marks, Skir, and BM for PvE.
I need to do some theorycrafting for WvW and PvP.

Beastmastery for sure. Likely Nature Magic or Wilderness Survival with that, depending on what works best for druid.
I misunderstood the new traitsystem first, I thought we could mix as we like just as now >.< unsure what to do now that we have to pick three and fill them, I will probably go MM, WS, NM with a high power longbow/s+w build for perma call of the wild with added regen.
Badly would have liked to add sharpened edges to this setup with celestial but oh well always gonna be 1 single traitpoint away just like it is now pretty much xD
Honestly I’m very torn. I’m probably going to have to go back to basics and retry every weapon and skill type to see if my idea of fun has changed.
Also, since druids have always been my absolute favourite fantasy archetype, it makes a lot of sense to wait and see what they’re like. A part of me is not looking forward to it though, how am I supposed to narrow down the choice of spec lines to 2+Druid when I can’t even narrow it down to 3 at the moment?

Same here.
It’s also terribly tempting to have Marksman, Wilderness and BM for quickness call of the wild with extra might on petswap
MM, Skirmishing, and Druid. Gonna be a druid longbow lol. I’m hoping druid offers some unique benefits to my current build (which will not be changed much at all).
If Druid offers no benefit to my longbow build (or my pet) at all, then i will just get BM and buff my pet or maybe NM for various defensive buffs.

Don’t forget please the DH trait line as well. We won’t feel much difference.

This more than likely. After I give druid a go at least.
Wilderness survival, nature magic, skrimishing.

I’m with this. I’d probably run Carrion with A/A and S/D
Without considering Druid, I’m going to have to say Marksmanship, Wilderness Survival, and either Nature Magic (make a perma swiftness/fury/regen/might build with a bit extra tankiness) or Skirmishing, which I’ll have to test it real time before I can make up my mind. This would be a power build.
For a condition build, it really depends on what happens with Trap and Spirits. The splits will probably be Skirmishing, Wilderness Survival, and Nature Magic or Skirmishing, Wilderness and Beastmastery, Or Wilderness Survival, Nature Magic, and Beastmastery.
Quickdraw seems super useful on both types of builds and almost every weaponset, just as a general comment.

If that_shaman’s calculator is a good indicator of how things will be in HoT… I have no clue whatsoever. I’ll probably have to rebuild all 5 of my rangers from the ground up, as far as traits go. One of them is going to go Druid but beyond that…

6/6/6/0/0 for pve and maybe 6/0/6/0/6 for wvw if Beastly Warden ends up as good as everyone is hoping it will.
For me it’s going to depend on whether or not I go druid. To keep the build I currently use or as close to as I can, since some of my traits will oppose one another,, I’d end up going with Wilderness Knowledge, Nature Magic, and I’d be stuck needing BM for both the shouts and axe buff (though I’d prefer Marksmanship). I run a condi build for PvE, based more around support than pure DPS.
