I understand that Anet babysits thief and warrior class for almost 2 years now, but maybe its time to fix ranger class?

I know I know stop whining and LTP noob. I do have 4 lvl 80 and ranger does have the weakest set up of trait , weapon skill and utility in the game.

1. Sword root on auto attack if its so awesome could devs pleas code it in for all classes.

2 Ranger shouts, is there a reason that our shouts have 360 radius ( war and guard
shouts have 600 radius ). ranger shouts do not buff people around until you trait
for it. Not to mention that ranger shouts doe have simply dumb functionality.

  • sic em- to long cd to short rev debuff and it should teleport pet to the target.
  • guard – lol please someone from anet post vid how you use this shout if you don’t
    have " natures voice". This shout should have a bit longer cd and it should
    lock down targeted area so no enemy could walk in or out from it in,
    addition it should provided of buff or debuf in that area depending
    on what pet do you use atm.
  • protect me- kills ur pet most of the time and pet stops attacking for duration. Way to
    long cd for dumb functionality and dead pet syndrome.
  • S& R- Huge cd for … no functionality I na skill how sweet is that .

I don’t understand why ranger shouts don’t have some effects from get go,
as well as some implemented cond remove etc , so we could have shout build
to play with.

3 Fire trap and torch skill should blind the target.

4 trap radius and range should match necro wells.

5 LR finally after almost 2 years it does remove immobilize, but you didn’t drop cd on this skill why? Eng rocket boots is far superior to LR and its on 20 sec cd.

6 Entangle way to long cd for low functionality ( npcs walk thru it no problem). ore or less it works maybe about 20% if the times. Also with newest trait it does remove only ONE cond unless you fixed it. we Don’t have single good legendary skill, also non of it is on 90 sec cd .

7 Hunter shot needs longer stealth duration also stealth should be on use not on hit.
While in stealth this skill should turn in to sneak attack of some sort that would deliver nice dmg. and it should go on cd after you exit stealth. In present state HS functionality should have ben added to short bow quick shot.

8 W don’t have traits that would reduce cd or add extra effects to healing skills.

9 New animation on the 3rd GS auto attack for norn males makes it a bit hard to dodge out of that jump animation. I have to test it a bit more but what it looks like my avatar sometimes slides to the side before dodge.

10 Why do we have this flanking restrictions on short bow? if its so awesome please add this to all classes weapons with 900 range. this is not LOTRO anet this is GW2with fast paced combat.

11 Pets die to fast and cant keep up with moving targets but you know this already :/

12 More f2 skills per pet so we can pick what we like to use, all pets should have Forage skill and upon use it should pop up in f2 slot not on the ground cd is to long on this as well. I don’t get it why bears for egz don’t have fear roar on f2 or why we don’t have Drag skill( pets immobilize and drags target twords ranger)

13 RTW should be default arrow speed for longbow.

looking on how they changed legendary and ascended items to be account bound I fear they will never do anything substantial to fix ranger class. That just looks like an answer to all the people that complained about time invested in this broken class.

1. Its an issue that Anet already said they are working on fixing.

4. Okay. For balance reasons, to make traps more similar to Wells, trap cooldowns are now 50 seconds instead of 15-30 seconds.

5. Lightning Reflexes is an EVADE, Rocket Boots IS NOT. Lightning Reflexes BREAKS STUN, Rocket Boots DOES NOT.

7. If Stealth was “On Use”, then because of how stealth works (gets removed when dealing damage) we would break stealth the moment Hunter’s shot hits the target, rendering Stealth kind of pointless on the skill.

8. I agree with this one atleast. Without traits, our Healing skills are rather strong, but once you factor in traits that affect healing skills (that most other professions have access to but we don’t), then our healing skills start to look kind of bad by comparison.

10. If Anet removed the flanking restriction, then the Shortbow wouldn’t be anymore powerful than the most similar skills from other professions (like the Warrior’s Bleeding shot, and the Engineer’s Tranquilizer Dart). The problem is that an unrestricted shortbow combined with our pets would tip us over the edge and make us much more powerful than any other profession using a similar weapon. In other words, blame our pets for the flanking restriction. You can probably blame them for the Longbow restriction as well.

Some of the ideas are actually pretty exact.

Some are not.

RtW, Sword Root, 7, and All the Shouts – I agree. Maybe I’d add an AoE aura around the pet for cripple (let’s say 450 range) every time pet attacks while in “Protect” mode. People should be scared of beasts in their territory.

Others I don’t. E.G. Rangers are not supposed to be healers. We provide nice support utility through Spirits – and that’s our support role. We don’t provide enough healing anywayz.

Our Fire traps are supposed to bring damage – offense. Defense is not needed.

ShortBow is not flanking restricted. But could welcome better Power coefficient – that’s for sure. It hits like a Hamburger. Looks tasty but you don’t wanna know what it’s made of.

Considering that the rangers DPS even with the pet is poor and the thief shortbow skills are nicer than the rangers, I think it’s time they got rid of that little restriction.

What I meant is that ShortBow is mostly used as a PvP weapon – for it’s utility it provides.
You can feel that Shortbow is effective enough even if you don’t have 100% flank uptime.

Poison, pet bleeding and Cripple, also a daze. That’s all nice even without flanking.

Of course your damage is laughable if you don’t hit from behind – but it’s nor Flank restricted.

What I meant is that ShortBow is mostly used as a PvP weapon – for it’s utility it provides.
You can feel that Shortbow is effective enough even if you don’t have 100% flank uptime.

Poison, pet bleeding and Cripple, also a daze. That’s all nice even without flanking.

Of course your damage is laughable if you don’t hit from side or behind – but it’s not Flank restricted.

… If you consider it from “front/behind” – it’s the matter of 180° angle.
It can be understood like Behind (90°) and Sides (2×90°) which is 270°, which I don’t believe is the case.

1 – yes
2- yes
3+4 , they are on low CD, so they are ok. – when traited they have good radius.
6 entangle is very good as it is, try to be on the other side of entangle…
7- longer stealth for you and your pet. (at least traited longer stealth) as rangers have no ability to escape combat.

8-but we have plenty of free regen (if specced) and one of the best healing skills that we can self blast and self leap . (warhorn/GS)

10 – flanking is part of the weapon.

11- yes.

12 not sure possible, way too much development and backwards compatibility issues.

13- yes.

14- remove the ridiculous jump from sword 2… make it a small evade roll. (noob me died in EOTM using sword 2… jumped the opposite direction and fell from the ledge)

Thats coz a lot of pvp rangers use spirits. SB is ranged and has a very high rate of fire so its easier to proc the spirits.

I hate how they haven’t separated the balancing. No one uses spirits outside pvp except maybe the frost spirit in dungeons.

I agree with all of these points. I can add to them that if the target move a bit to your side if it get in close combat it breaks the skill use. Also some of the pet skills if ordered from out of range they go on full cooldown even though they didn’t do that attack because out of range, instead the pet should move to range and execute the command. Also Anet said they made pet execute the command F2 immediate, I find sometimes it does some other times it don’t (maybe small bug).

Overall, its about time ranger get a real fix instead of sitting on the lowest lvl of the food chain.

Traps are fine the way they are. Traited they become ground targetable (big difference), double the radius iirc (nice bonus), and their inflicted conditions get doubled duration (eh). Any improvement to them would like come with accompanying nerfs to keep them balanced where they are. As a dedicated trap ranger in pve I do not want longer cooldowns or any other restrictions placed on traps.

Really, of all the Ranger utility skills (aside from LR, Frost Spirit I guess), traps are the least “inefficient”. Those shouts though… smh

Yes Chrispy LR does remove stunts and rocket boots no but is that just reason for double cd? you can use RB twice before you can use LR again. I don’t know if you are familiar with thief healing skill Withdraw , it does not remove stunt but it is heal + LR in one ( no dmg on it tho ) and its on 15 sec cd. Anet simply gave away good skills to other classes and rangers are stuck with garbage utility + idiotic long cds. Also LR is affected by chill which makes you roll back slower and for shorter distance.

Anet ignorance regarding ranger fix lead to a bit idiotic situation in wvw. Maybe it is just my impression but in some random skirmishes form the grp of players I am always first one to get attacked. To be honest I also always target enemy ranger first because that is simply 90% of the time easy kill.

It looks like that I will have to wait for another mmo that maybe will make rangers interesting and fun again. Hope Black desert online and eq next wont suck in class balance department like Gw2 is.
