Which armor set for new 80 ranger ?
Choose what weapons you want to use before deciding how you want to gear yourself.
My spec and gear choice is in this thread

Hello Samfisher ,
I never knew about the berserker set u just wrote about. Amazed there’s alot of different variations of that level 80 set. ill continue looking around for weapons and trinkets but im pretty sure either the berserker or rampager set will be the one im getting.
Thanks again
EDIT : my ranger is built on condition damage though , with traps on my ulitity skills

You can look here for a list of attribute combinations as well as their prefix/suffix. Do note that the Karma gear from Temple of Orr vendors do not follow this naming scheme.

Since I decided to use the Axe + Warhorn combo, I figured that with such a short range, I could benefit from some toughness and vit

Full berserkers EVERYTHING.
With 1500 range on the longbow, you don’t need vitality or toughness.
@ Haziq
For condition, you can either go rampager ( power/precision/condition- more of a glass cannon type) or carrion (condition/power/vit – tankier, less crit but more condition damage). A even more specialised armour set would be to run dungeons like Twilight Arbor/ Honour of the Waves for tokens and get the Precision/Toughness/Condition set and rune it with Rune of the Undead (adds 5% of toughness to condition damage). This set gives very good survivability and having a high precision helps when your weapons are upgraded with Sigil of Earth (chance to bleed when you crit). The drawback is that you’ll have terrible normal damage though. But if you’re running traps mobs will just melt with the amount of condition damage you’ll have.
Dont spend your karma for rare weapons. Karma takes very long to farm up, but you can buy 80s rare for cheap off the TP (like 20s ea)
@Schnuffles
Looks like you’ve never actually fought a competent opponent before.. The closer they get, the less damage you do, and the further you are the easier it is for them to dodge our painfully slow arrow travel. Full berserkers would mean you run around with 15k HP, that’s 1 Kill Shot crit + 1-2 auto attacks.

I play WvW, mainly defending castles and keeps from the walls.
Full berserkers fits my playstyle. Most enemies run away when i start blasting them with Rapid Fire.

Kill shot is easy to dodge as long as you see the warrior kneeling. The more common thing would be thieves will just killing you in 0.5 seconds. You won’t even get to see them unstealth. 2 seconds later you’ll just see a death screen that says “12k backstab damage”

LB is only useful during sieges (attacking/defending) keeps. Rapid Fire is so terrible.. The damage you see is total damage, not damage per hit. Barrage is not good for damage, it’s good for area denial.
I play WvW too. Probably more than most by a large margin too.

Before recommending any armor set, it’s important to know your play-style. For example, I run full Valk’s because I do WvW avidly and the extra health makes a world of difference in every situation.

Is that confirmed? If you watch a mob’s health bar, it drops progressively faster as rapid fire goes longer. Or at least it looks that way to me.
Playing a various Stormspire alt – if it’s Stormspire, it’s probably me
Guilds: Elder Prophets [EP], Principality of New Katulus (PiNK)
Yes, it’s confirmed. All channeled attacks in the game work this way. The number you’re seeing is the total of all hits during the channel combined, not each individual hit.
Hello ,
Thanks for the replies. Ive decided to go rampager due to my trap based build. I was wondering what hp value should a decent ranger have. What if i concentrate more on PvE ? Should i still concern myself on getting several gears with vit ? Or can i carry on being a glass cannon ?
Finally , thanks for the replies. I do read all of them as well as read up more on the game. Am fairly new to MMOs. Happy GW2-ing

As others have pointed out, you’ll die fast in PvP with this build. I have a glass cannon build (went berserker jewels, working on armor) but I went in knowing i’d be dead in seconds.
@OP: Id personally wait a while and accumulate karma and make due with decent drops. Rangers are due for an update/overhaul and once that is done it would be a better time to assess what you want to do with your builds.

Its viable being a glass cannon for PVE, as long as you are more careful. It’s just that you might run into some survivability issues during some dungeons/ high level areas. Sometimes during dungeon speed runs many parties choose to skip trash mobs, so you might have to eat a hit…or several.
i don’t know about the rest of you but i’m running half a carrion and half a knights set. because of the general lower on average killing power of the ranger survivability is key.
especially since i focus on solo (away from the zerg) roaming ganks and back lining

In PvE (not dungeons) glass cannon is perfectly fine. Dungeons however… I don’t have much experience with. I’ve only ever did 2 dungeons, and CoE Explorer Mode as glass cannon.. Not so fun xD

my ranger has full exotic carrion armor, exotic rampagers amulets/earrings/rings, exotic rampagers weapon set.
bleeding goes to 106 minimum per tick, precision is 42% which gives me the crits that i need for bleeds and i have 17-18k health.
