Tried whirling defense with quickdraw to see if I could get some crazy reaction in a condi build with its 12 vulnerable and sharpened edges. Nope, whirling defense takes too long to cast. Okies just for testing I will try with quickness, nope still too long of a cast before quickdraw buff expires.

I know its weird but quickdraw should be increased in duration to 8sec to cover all ranger weapon skills and maybe also to give the ranger a longer window to make skill choice.

Edit:
If you are Whirling Axes and cancel(movement) or get CC, with the trait buff still up, it will be the reduced recharge. Infact you can get almost all of the dmg/vuln tics. Maybe all, I havnt tested it completely but I can move at the end of the activation bar and get recharge.

Edit:
Its possible to get 12. Its much more practical to stick with ~10 though.

Therefore it’s a bug.

Bugs should be posted in the bug forum:
http://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/bugs

You could make a new topic or simply post it in this one:

I already posted it there with a link to this thread

Dunno. Quick draw doesn’t need buffs. You could just stop the whirl in time. Tbh honest Whirling Axes is what needs a buff, not quick draw.

Quick Draw wouldn’t be buffed. It just needs an increased duration to allow all Ranger skills to benefit from it, not leaving Whirling Defense out.

That is a buff. You kind of have to use a skill in time now which sometimes makes you have to use a suboptimal skill. Often I swap weapons but don’t want to cast something right away.

Buff, yes, so what? Would a duration increase make rangers op or what? It’s a qol improvement more than a buff, but if you want to argue about it then sure, go ahead.

Tbh, they could get rid of that timer altogether, it’s not needed in any way. Let QD be active until you’ve used it up – solved.

That would ruin a lot. Or would be abused, depending on how would it be changed.

If it could be kept until the ability is used – ICD might not go down soon enough for the next weapon swap.
If the ICD started at the moment of gaining Quick Draw – I could see 3 bonfires in 20 seconds. And I wouldn’t find this abuse fun, trust me.

It needs to stay the way it currently is, but needs to “accept the trigger” at the beginning of the cast. Not at the end of it. This is a Quality of Life change. Not a buff.

Well, that was of course NOT how I meant it. The trait should obviously need to reset on weapon swap, as well as reset when out of combat.

In my opinion the problem is not in Quick Draw itself.

It’s the Whirling Defense.

  • Whirling Defense: Instant Cast.
~ Reflects projectiles for 1,5 seconds
~ Grants retaliation for 4 seconds
~ No longer Deals damage or applies Vulnerability
~ Increases chance to destroy projectiles on melee attack for 75% (stacks with Strider’s Defense) for 4 seconds.
    ~ Whirl combo Finisher
    ~ 20 second cooldown.

How would you like this idea?

Lots of over-thinking and complications for such a little thing. Just extend Quick Draw’s buff duration by 1 second or do LughLongArm’s suggestion having it apply at the start of a skill instead of the end. Done.

Well yes.
But no one’s satisfied with the current Whirling Defense as it is. And if the ability was changed – there might not even be the need to change quick draw at all.

I’m trying to think to get as much results and satisfaction for the least work in coding possible.

The least amount of coding then would be to move the activation of Quick Draw’s activation at the start of a skill or buff it by 1 second. Altering Whirling Defense is another issue entirely.

Also, Quick Draw’s ICD starts on the weapon swap, not after it is used. Just tested it and held back doing a Maul with 1s left on the buff and obtained it on the next weapon swap.

And that’s why there is that 5 second interval as well, to prevent the abuse of tripple ability uses.
I’m aware that Whirling Defense is a completely different issue – but changing a completely different issue might hit 2 birds with 1 stone since it would solve it’s own issue as well as the subject of this topic.

I figure simple solution for now. Simply skill cancel by moving before the trait icon disappears and it gets the recharge bonus. I lose a few tics of dmg/vulnerability but its kinda fun ;-)

Edit:
Ok you can get all 12 tics but its kinda close shave. I probably will just aim for 8-10 as standing still any longer then even that is scary and well boring.
