Q:
Whirling defense (axe offhand)
It does damage all the way around you. I’ve never tried to intentionally reflect anything behind me, but based on it doing damage in a complete circle, I’d guess it reflects everything in front of you.
For PvE, this skill can be amazing. Certain bosses can be reflected (most famously, Lupi.) Otherwise stick with your warhorn in offhand.
In PvP/WvW, offhand axe is mainly about skill 4, but as Sigmoid pointed out in the other axe thread today, you don’t have to wait for skill 5 to finish. I.e. you can use it to reflect the killshot, then cancel it and go finish off the warrior.
I also use it in that chaos after two zergs clash, where a bunch of wounded people are trying to range survivors down, but neither zerg is really engaging. I’m sure you’ve seen thieves doing the same thing with Dagger Storm.
it reflects every around you , the 90’ radious just means anyone inside that circle will benifit from the reflect too.
the attack Radius 180’ hits everyone around you but will only reflect up 90’ so anyone outside of that 90’ wont get the reflect benifit.
a long time ago i ran , PPT with PVT trinkets , Gs+S/A , and use to run near the front line but not on the first hammer when the ZvZ hits, when they need to restack and buff up , i then use Axe 5 with the trait for 120’ and it pretty much protects the zerg from all sides against projectiles perticly good for those annyoying lich form bolts that pierce.
though it is very hard to time and use every time the zerg stops to stack due to the rooting if you have to move it can be cannceld early but its a bit annoying.
for Axe 5 you have to be Power based with no condi, and as in power based just ppt or PvT the crits help but as it roots you , you need hp regen and quite a bit of toughness. to make the most out of it for zergs in WvW.
