Why are ranger so worthless? Jesus
Kitten is anet’s way of filtering curse words. Words like kitten, kitten, and kitten get changed into kitten.
As far as rangers not catching anything… get your greatsword out and try again. Or don’t bother, you get 1500 range on your longbow, just snipe em.
kitten kitten, my hyena hurts like a kitten (literally)

Uh…hello cripples and such? Not enough time for me to list your options, figure them out.
Or default to doing what warriors in GW1 did, curse them and call them babies for not standing there and fighting.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
rangers are not that worthless. even if we are, the reason is not because we can’t catch up to theif/war/ele. as a matter we can catch up to them, you just don’t know how. it does not mean the class itself is worthless, only the player that plays the class.
What are you planning to do once you catch them? Bleed all over them?
You’re a ranger, just be grateful they are running away, it’s about the best you can hope for.
you shoulda chosen Norn.

Shortbow #4,5, only has 900 range, axe 3 only has 900 range, dagger #5, good luck landing that ever, greatsword #4 not sure on its range, but my guess would be its below 901, muddy terrain 900 range. It has become hard to stop someone trying to flee with the shortbow range nerf, although someone who wants to get away, will get away.

The problem is catching up, for a class that should cover lots of land we certainly don’t have the best mobility in game.

Nagy – there is a trait called OFFHAND TRAINING. Try it out.
There is also another trait called PREDATOR’S INSTINCT, also worth trying.
Then there is Entangle, Muddy Terrain, GS#3 + Sword #2, Norn: Become the Snow Leopard, Norn: Become the Bear, Asura: Technobabble, Longbow #4, Longbow #5, Longbow #1 (to keep em in combat speed)

I use off-hand training, the problem with dagger #5 isn’kittens range, its that it hardly even hits standing targets. Its like shooting the old longbow and getting obstructed/miss.

try this:
preset a button to turn 180 degrees (mine is “Z”)
hit “Z” —> Lightning reflexes --> hornet’s sting (sword #2) —>Monarch’s Leap (Sword #2) --> greatsword #3.
If you have an 25% movement speed, these skills should allow you to catch up fairly easy. If you still haven’t caught up, switch your pet to passive or swap pets to drop agro on npc or whatever it may be attacking because pet being in action will slow you down.
This sequence takes some practice, so get out there and PRACTICE!!!! Have fun! and just make sure you are able to kill whoever it is you’re trying to catch, cause if you can’t….you just may look like an idiot lol
EDIT:
Forgot to put that this will help you get away if you can’t kill them/him/her

Under no circumstance should anyone use this worthless trait.

It’s harder for condi rangers, since they don’t use GS that much. The leap on ranger’s GS is the longest in the game(1100).
If you must be a condi ranger, you might want to think about replacing axe with sword and practicing the sword leaps. Detarget anything, hit your “turn-around” key(default ‘V’ I think), hit sword2, turn-around again, hit sword2 again. It takes a lot of practice, but is a decent gap-closer…ikittenward as all heck.
*note: I know the sword has rooting issues…just my two cents
I troll because I care
Flicking your wrist to turn the camera is easier to do than using the turn around key because you can rotate the camera once you’ve been launched.

…how so? I do this on auto run, 180 turn on a button, reflex back, sword 2 and rotate camera, sword 2 and i’m pretty sure I’ve caught most people trying to flee.
I’ll have to try flicking the wrist, but I don’t see how that’s easier than pressing a button

I’m pretty sure we are actually throwing a very poorly made paper airplane.
It reminds me of the old projectile on the Necro staff that was only slightly faster than a person runs.
Anet and it’s slow missile lust…

Because the turn button doesn’t have a smooth transition like a manual turn. And you can’t control the turn if you want to turn at an angle. Like for example, you might have to cross a bridge but the target is not necessarily running straight after he has ran across it. He might’ve made a 90 degree turn after crossing.
Warriors and thieves can be a pain in the kitten to catch sometimes.
Warriors have a lot of potential on demand condi removal and combined with their own leaps and dashing can keep out of range pretty easily (and they also have Endure Pain which is like Signet of Stone, but on steroids in comparison).
Thieves are about the same, but rely more on invisibility and the sword tele skill. They have a good amount of potential on demand condi removal built into certain skills too.
Meanwhile: rangers are subject to essentially rng condi removal and have to pray to the six that their pet isn’t dead for most of it… and even with the GS Swoop skill, the other classes have similar skills that can move them almost just as far; keeping them forever out of reach if they so desire.
Many Ranger skills seem to just be watered down versions of other classes skills, because “lol pet.”
I know about sword #2 and how to use it, but in my experience without swiftness it covers roughly the same distance as a person running with swiftness. I did use greatsword when it had bleed on maul. It was nice, I could use axe/torch on my other set, both with geomancy runes. I was able to scrap all trap traits, because throwing traps wasn’t a problem anymore. I could close distance with GS #3 and drop traps below my opponent. It certainly caught many people off guard. Nice times….

Signet is not designed to let you catch people
Yeah, leaps are far better for it, and sword is not the best for that, GS is definetly better.

Seriously, if someone thinks anyone will roll with 2 second cripple on 15 second cooldown, working only on targets under 25% health..
Weakest trait I can possibly imagine. Something like “Get /dance2 command when target is below 25% health!” and naming it “Victory Fever” would be 100% more useful.
Not sure if peope like that one just trolling or…

That is my experience with the sword leap trick. It just requires too much stopping and there is that aftercast pause at the end of the leap back that just barely puts you ahead of a person just running in a straight line. All they have to do is dodge forward if you are trying to catch someone with the combo and you’ll never touch them.
