Guild Wars 2

The new ones are bleh, Hot’s were bleh and the original ones were ok but not that awe-inspiring. This is a magical world with monsters, and beasts from mythology ect ect and yet we are stuck with either basic animals. Or what appears to be elementals who we have tamed? A rock deer? A plant snake? Or floating hedge? Come on really?

I know they are probably gonna be cool in the damage department, probably be interesting skill wise. But when I look at them I dont get the “I need to tame this right now, I want it.”. I mean I flipped my kitten when I heard that we were getting dinosaurs in HoT and then I was sad to see a predator dog, and a turtle were it. The freaking tiger ended up being the best addition? My point is The crystal desert has a number of creatures who could of fit the role of pets better than these ones.

Dune lizards, Hydra’s, Those new land-sharks pulled right out of monster hunter, some other beasts and hell maybe even the worms we tamed in the desolation. All of these could of been cool pets, and yet we get this crap. I main/play a ranger for the pets, and to be a beastmaster not to fuse with them. But now im glad I get to fuse with them, because I wont have to look at these stupid ass animals. Im so dissapointed, I was expecting so many cool things and all we get are some rock/plant creatures. Like I have had enough plant/rock monsters, I had enough in HoT. I wanted some monsters so I could be like “Yeah look at my pet, Now this is cool and feels like it would work”. Im going against a god of war, and I am totally gonna throw a kittening rock deer at him. Or a sand lion, Like really a SAND LION. Or a little plant snake, who is so small that it feels like he would be more annoying than anything else.

I dont know if anyone else is upset about the pets we are getting, people probably are gonna be like. “Get over it, re-roll and play something else.” But It’s one of those, I love my ranger and I feel to me they are the coolest class. I love having a pet, and running in tandem with it… and now im being pushed into this mess? First they tried to push us into being a healer, now they are pushing us into being a half thief. If I wanted to be petless I would of made one of the other class’s. But with these new pets Im feeling sort of like “They made these pets this way, so people would want to fuse with them.” Because no one is going to care about these, they are just so underwhelming theme wise and feel uninspired.

Cool is a matter of opinion but I do agree with the land-shark and hydra point. They would have made awesome pets.

Agree. Instead of the plant thingies (iboga and the hovering tree stump)… at least we could get real ANIMALS for pets.The place is crawling with cool option.

Having a plant as a pet is weird, but I suppose it’s mostly an excuse to give soulbeast some mesmer and ele abilities.

I really would like the Mistfire Wolf as a pet or as a skin for the existing wolf.

You mean like the greater dragon from ultima online, something along that coolness right? It even requires multiple people to even tame it, and the dragon is strong in magic and can practically 1 shot a player.

I wish we could tame one of those thieves all around wvw maps.

I have tamed a few, well humbled is probably a better word. One gave me Dawn and another gave me The Hunter! The only precursor drops I’ve had both came from Thieves in WvW

Maybe at some point there will be an awesome specialisation that adds something like epic pets as a mechanic. I would love to have a hydra as pet, but it would have to be as strong as it looks. With the current pet mechanic that would break the game. However if there would be a specialisation build around this with a disadvantage to it like no pet swap or something similar that would make it harder to keep the pet alive the whole time it might work.

Imo the Jacaranda and Iboga are awesome pets as a guild wars fan.

Not to mention that I’ve always wanted more plant style pets as a Sylvari ranger.

They can just swap the Hyena model now, since they made a better one.

I hope they just across the board swap the Hyena model tbh and only use the mange one in specific situations.

I’m so glad you are and happy to be of service. I love (most) of the Ranger community, it’s quite different to the other classes, without bias on that, I mean it positively. That’s something I want to contribute to.

I won’t be playing until late November myself due to work commitments, but I’d love to hear from you after that when I get stuck into all I have missed. Speaking of which, I will want to get Soulbeast unlocked before doing any living story hehe. Not possible otherwise

A snake per would’ve been dope. I mean, we already have a couple snake themed skills, so a giant snake pet to go with it would have been cool.

We dont need Overpowered pets, just thematically better ones and ones who actually feel like a threat. Sending a Deer to fight a god sounds just utterly ridiculous, and the new pets look like crap.

Anything fighting a god is utterly ridiculous. What exactly do you think is not ridiculous to send to fight against a god? A Balrog perhaps? A Junundu?

And if it’s powerful enough to fight a god, why would it allow you to ‘tame’ it and tell it what to do?

Demi-god pets would be powerful enough. Obtained through Shamanic ritual. Spirit helpers.
