Why does "Guard" shout have a cast time?
im sure they will remove it..There are some traits-skills that need some changes, im sure in time they will fix em
OP, good observation.
What is interesting is http://wiki.guildwars2.com was created and designed by the old Arena.net; before the new Arena.net took over; you can see thier differences- the old vs new. In other word, Gw2 wiki is not misguided at all, it is the new Arena.net i believe who changed them in complete violation to thier roots; the old Arena.net gw2 visions.
One note; warriors and other classes are having that same problems as well.
Sorry to drag on, but the Truth must be spoken..

To be honest, i don’t think it was made in error but was intentional.
Seriously ask yourself, for the past 14+ months of Gw2 release, ’isn’t it too obvious that they would not know’ this beforehand?
If it was easy for you to find, should be much easier for them; since it’s their website signature.
Though I do acknowledge Ranger have broken skills, traits etc…
but i rely on Time as reasons and as evidence to the Truth.
As the saying goes, "the longer it take, the more it was Intentional’

Right… because there’s mountains of evidence to suggest that they’re going to do such a thing…
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
(edited by Arsenic Touch.7960)
If you compare the ranger skills with equivalent or similar skills from the other classes, you get the sense that someone at Anet really hated rangers and did everything in his power to kitten them. Ranger signets had weaker effects and cooldowns roughly twice as long as everyone else. Rangers had to take a GM trait for the signet actives to affect them. Guard is the only shout with a cast delay. Spotter is a master-level trait while others are adept-level. The quickness skill for all the classes were stun breakers except ranger’s. The run speed signet for most of the classes was 25%, but was 10% for ranger (and a couple others IIRC). Might skills for other classes gave 3-5 stacks, while ranger got 1-2 stacks. Rangers got no player-controlled blast finisher. I could go on and on.
Thankfully they’ve gradually been fixing these, bringing ranger up to parity with the other classes. So whoever/whatever at Anet was holding rangers back seems to have disappeared. But you’ll still find a few obviously weaker skills/traits like Guard and Spotter.
Because Rangers have to take a deep, and really SHOUT at their pet in order to get it to do anything other than just stand there! ((SHHHH! – Don’t tell Anet that our other shouts are instant or they’ll nerf it!))(/sarcasm)
Also, the 15 second cooldown that many of you failed to noticed, or just didn’t want to notice (10 seconds shorter than any other shout), might be the reason. (okay, now its /sarcasm!). To balance the shout to have no activation, Its probably not as simple as just making the cooldown 16 seconds instead.

Only the Thief had a signet that gave 25% movement speed while all the other classes had 10%. Rangers asked to be given 25% and the devs agreed and changed it to 25% for all classes that had a speed signet. I believe thieves got 50% speed trait while in stealth at the same time.
It’s probably still my favorite improvement to the Ranger so far.

I believe this is the correct answer. But, it’s not entirely true. “Guard” cooldown was lowered to 15s, eventhough it always had the 1s cast time. I think it used to be 45 seconds or something along those lines. Much later Nature’s Voice was introduced, so it didn’t directly have anything to do with the change as far as I know.
But still, what you said is probably the correct answer. It should be considered to balance out the low cooldown, so we can get permanent regen and swiftness through Nature’s Voice.
However, I think this is a silly reason. If the 1s cast time was removed, it probably wouldn’t impacting balance negatively in any way, but it would improve “quality of life” for Rangers tenfold.
Consider it a balance against the perma regen/swiftness that people use it for almost exclusively.

Probably the reason for it, which is ridiculous in my opinion. Devs make an entire skill category insta cast for Guardians in the last patch, but we still have the sole shout in the game with casting time because they chose to add boons to our shouts? And thats IF you take 30 points to get that grandmaster trait, so in the other words they are balancing that skill based on one single grandmaster trait?
Does that sound right to you?

Nothing Anet does with class balance seems right to me.
