First off, I don’t play Ranger.
This is not to say that I haven’t played the class, I actually have played every class for a good 2 days each, because I like to get a feel for every class in the game, as it helps you beat them or understand how to help them in a team. So here’s my question:

Why does every single longbow ranger I fight in sPvP run straight up to me until he’s point blank shooting me in the face. I’m not talking about just doing so for the knockback, I mean they focus their longbow playstyle around going straight up to the enemy and using their attacks at about 500 – 300 range.

This seems kinda dumb to me because when they do this, I pretty much lock them down and kill them pretty easily. The few good longbow rangers I never even notice before it’s too late, as they are up on some structure or a hill that is hard to reach, and they use their knockback defensively.

So basically why? Why do all these longbow rangers run up to me so close? Is there some sort of benefit? Or are they just bad?

There’s a big problem with bows right now that a strafing target can dodge their attacks easily at 750+ range. Just walking, not dodging.

So people might be getting close because they fear their attacks just whiffing because the projectile speed is too slow.

It’s supposed to be changing on 12/14 when the new patch hits, so we’ll see if people stop face-bowing you.

Ahhh I actually read something along these lines. I have a lvl 80 guardian and I have the same issue with my scepter, everyone seems to dodge them easily. Still, if that’s the case it seems better to just go shortbow or axe for the time being.

People seemed to have dumped Shortbow for the time being as it has similar projectile issues. And the recent hit to it’s DPS from the QZ nerf have left a few people rather bitter. Honestly, it’s still good, just notably slower than before.

As for Axe… Well, people don’t seem to give it any love. It’s a good weapon, too. Just… AoE focused so it doesn’t get as much attention from the PvPers, I’d reckon. And PvPers tend to be the most vocal over the forums.

(That’s not a crack at PvPers. Being vocal can be a good thing, or a bad thing. Just depends on if you’re polite while you do it.)

When I played ranger, I personally found the Axe/Warhorn combination to be the best in team supporting, utility, and CC. Just my opinion anyway.
