Why stealth on longbow?
You are not short-sighted. The question is, do you really want to change SB at all? SB has lots of conditions on it plus the swiftness. What would you like to replace? I see SB more usage for condition build and it would be pointless putting Stealth there.
Stealth in Longbow is preferred due to being able to combine vuln-stack with rapid shot, leaving number 3 clearly available. Furthermore, the advantage is being able to use Barrage without being detected (or at least the beginning of it). Long bow, we are at distant. WE need to be at distant, and stealth will give us 3 seconds to run away from close range to be back at distant. Nice right?

Here are the reasons, I believe stealth went on the longbow:
A ) The longbow needed some love much more than the short bow.
B ) Logistically, it makes sense that it would be easy to hide from your target when you’re far away from them.
C ) This serves as a fix to the Opening Strike mechanic by working in tandem with Remorseless.
I also think it is important to recognize the pet swiftness on that ability. With the stealth+pet swiftness it now makes it easier to shift PvE aggro from the ranger to the pet, making it an effective aggro reset
lets make it clearly maybe yes LB needed some love but not stealth…
stealth=ShortBow kind of an assassin fast shooting ranger with stealth the longbow are for more like distance kind of a sniper that needs good dmg but the shortbow should get the stealth its the more close range wep of rangers + SB are clearly more in the style of stealth hiding fast shooting etc …. stealth just doesn’t feet on the LB its like trying to put 2 different peaces of puzzle .. almost the same to give some thief a vunrability instread of stealth .
and those who will say LB needed love yes they could add some other way love but not stealth
i think is an excelent second step! (first was the aftercast remove) 4-5 more like this and we will be ok.
i hope next time they give us some trait merge

and eveey time a little more weapon update

It was probably done because they’re at a complete loss on what to do with the weapon and they remember back during christmas time everyone enjoyed that event where you played as the scout.
We’ll see what else is done in the future. It would be nice to come back and play this class again.

But is this the love it needed? Is the best they could come up with?

I think you meant “logically”. Either way, logic and video games don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand. Thieves, for example, can hide from their target even when standing right next to them.

Which trait are you dropping in favor of Remorseless? On my list, even with the changes, Remorseless still doesn’t make the cut.
Keep in mind this is likely not the last change to LB, I recall it being said they wish to combine some skills, and out right change other skills completely. For all we know this could just be one part of that.

An AoE cripple that roots you for the duration of its cast, and only stacks 1 second of cripple per hit. How many people have you seen who willingly take more than one or two hits from barrage?

An AoE cripple that roots you for the duration of its cast, and only stacks 1 second of cripple per hit. How many people have you seen who willingly take more than one or two hits from barrage?
Drop barrage in their walk path, then dodge roll backwards+that trait that makes you invulnerable for a few seconds.
I used it all the time during spvp.
It works even better if you cripple, dodge, then use 4.
pretty cool combo to control an enemy players distance for you. A short bow you basically had a small stun and a dodge…
And stealth isn’t really an especape anyways. it allows you to negate targeted damage for a duration, not really all that effective.

Why stealth on longbow?
I dunno why but I’m loving it!
I don’t really care about builds and stats and all that stuff, I just run whatever feels the most fun, and I have to say, since they introduced that “stealth” thing, I’ve been having a lot more fun!
Took me a while to actually realize that my ranger went stealth by herself, at first I always tough an ally was using some kind of stealth skill on the party/zerg.
I feel like my survivability went up, and that was my main concern with my ranger (not quite there yet, but definitively going in the right direction).
I dunno the mechanics behind it, but if I had to try to explain it, I would say that going stealth, even for 1-3 seconds, allows me to “de-aggro” the enemy in front and replace myself, which makes pve ai go back to my pet and leave me alone, and more importantly, in wvw and pvp (mainly wvw, I don’t pvp much) confuse the person attacking me just long enough for me to escape what would otherwise most likely be a fatal blow :$
In short, I think this stealth think was a really good idea! It makes my favorite class AND weapon feel useful now
On another note, if they really are going to modify the LB some more, they can have 1 and 3, and maybe 2 (good, but not fast or useful enough i feel), but please don’t touch my barrage and point blank shot !
5 is great for aoe, and 4 is awesome to push away all those scary people coming at me with an angry look on their faces >_<

That’s exactly how I felt about the old Hunter’s Shot.
Now pls rework no.4 skill on shortbow, its useless…
I would’ve liked for the longbow to have gotten another AoE function. It already has #5 but even then I would never use the weapon in dungeons. Maybe they could’ve made hunters shot ground targetable and increased the damage by a good amount that way we could apply AoE vulnerability.
confirming longbow needs moving barrage which is not affected by retaliation or anything
ranger also needs to be invulnerable while shooting (owait you can do that already?) in zerk gear so you can kill everything without swapping to meleee weapon o horror that melee someone might hit you.
it’s also too difficult to swap pet when it takes damage, make it no cd and automatic swap before they die it’s so long until they heal back.
