I want to take my Ranger into WvW roaming but I’ve never roamed before. (When I have WvW’d I’ve just been a zergling)

The build I typically use in PvP is settlers condi survival 2/0/6/6/0 (S/T A/D) and want to translate that to WvW however there’s different gear options ect

Was wondering if someone experienced could help me with gearing, I wanted to say full dire but then you loose a lot of sustain.

With that you should run apoth or settlers. Depending on trait selections its an extremely viable Condi gen/support build and amazing for wvw roaming.

Aye, for that setup both those are good, I have a set of apoth armor with settler’s trinkets as they are so cheap heh.

Well I go the typical bounty/salve/SotF, may trade in poison mastery if I’m not facing a condi heavy team. I normally run Dwayna for perma regen or Grenth for the high chill uptime (Mostly for eles)

I have enough laurels for ascended rings/amulet so which would be more worthwhile?
Exotic settlers is dirt cheap o-o

Do the guard stacks add any healing at all? On the wiki (Applied strength) for some reason it says Power/Condi but underneath says Healing: 35 – does this mean it heals you for 35 per stack or?

And Lynnie – I sub’d to you a long time ago, it was me that was asking about your gearing on your new video :p

Gear combos that work:
Full settlers / full apothecary / full dire / basically any combo of all three to preference

I wouldn’t run that trait combo for roaming. Off hand training is normally more useful than oak heart salve since on top of the extra radius on bonfire and slightly higher pressure you get a second dagger evade on axe/dagger per cycle which normally “blocks” more damage than I would have healed with the regen anyway. Also nature’s protection is amazing against thieves, and you will see a lot more of them in wvw than in spvp. It procs before you take backstab damage which then also mitigates any fire/air procs so you take a lot less opening damage. Also stops any gimmick killshot warriors, neuters d/d ele fire grabs, and makes eviscerate manageable.

You have lots of viable options for runes. Personally I take travelers most of the time because I want three utility slots and the non-boon movement speed buff is the single best tool you can have for kiting (prevents stripping by thieves chasing you down or lucky necros with corrupt boon). I also carry gear sets with lyssa, krait, and mad king though for when I’m feeling different.

Hmm, I’d probably take a combo of Apoth/Settlers.

In sPvP I normally find that I don’t need offhand training, I normally swap between it but I seem to favor salve recently – I just feel that having the perma regen which is 211 healing, coupled with the signet is 322ish healing is more profound in a prolonged fight than offhand training.

Yeah I heard thieves do a LOT more damage in WvW, I can handle thieves well in sPvP (the good ones I have trouble with but usually results in one of us resetting the fight) but I don’t know how much they differ in WvW so I’ll probably take that until I get comfortable and trade it out if I feel like I can handle myself without it (Probably not, I’m not great lol)

I was thinking travelers would probably be a must – I know movement speed is king in WvW and taking a utility slot JUST for 25% move seems ridiculous, it’s active isn’t anything special either nor can we trait for 25% move speed. Could be argued we don’t really need it due to decent mobility w/ sword 2 but I doubt it’d be enough.

I run a two builds I’d wager more often than not in WvW but will also say I keep just about every weapon we can use and then some. I thought I’d get away not doing this anymore since I do the same bloody thing on my Guardian, I think a ranger is worse!

Trapper build: 2/6/6
Rabid armor.
Axe, Torch, Long Bow. Sometimes I’ll go double bow with LB/SB
Frost, Flame, Spike traps + entangle.
Sigil – incapacitation / fire (LB), axe/dagger is something/geomancy – maybe doom.

If the server we are up against has a bunch of stealth roamers that I’m aware of from pervious match ups, you get the vibe of the players if you are friendly anyway, then I’ll swap out one of the traps for Sic-em. I find that I can flip any camp and event rather quickly yet hold my own vs. most players. There are the players that are just better than I am, I’ll admit it, and nothing shy of a nuclear bomb won’t help. So I just play, live, and learn.

DPS I’m running a 6/4/0/4/0 build.
All berserker gear.
Long bow of course. Sword/Axe. I will also fall back to axe/torch since I suck at melee.
Sig of renewal, stone, rampage as one, lightening reflex, and healing spring.
Sigil here is fire/air on LB – incapacitation sword/geomancy axe.

Food varies when I remember and I always have 5/5 guard buffs from WvW points. Glass makes me play on edge and I usually die more. From range it is just amazingly epic. Zerg warfare, if left unattended, it is like fishing trout with dynamite out of a barrel. If the foe is smart and aware, they close the gap, it is a short lived dance unless I’m on my A+ game or have a partner.

Trapper runes, well, it is golden. It is like the best of both worlds and a bit safer in resetting fights if the need is there. Some fights can drag on – thief/Mesmer dance the other day comes to mind. First player to make a mistake usually dies – it was me, and so we lost the fight. But is a lot of fun say compared to when I play my Guardian.

Sadly, playing on my ranger I find that I actually live longer regardless of enemy size. I’m not sure why that is other than I feel I have to play a bit more smart whereas on the Guardian I have abilities that make me lazy.

Main – Laaz Rocket – Guardian (Ehmry Bay)
Johnny Johnny – Ranger (Ehmry Bay)
Hárvey Wallbanger – Alt Warrior (Ehmry Bay)

I have every weapon on my ranger (In some cases two of) eg berserker sword and a dire one. xD

I do like the idea of a trapper, they seem fun to troll with but I’m not sure I’ll enjoy the play style. Though the power trapper combos I’ve seen look awesome but I realise you have to play fairly well to utilize those, I;ll need a lot of practice before that Dx

I can’t really stand power ranger if I’m honest, I play it from time to time for the laughs and normally how well I do depends on their mesmer/thief – Though I can’t tell you how many thieves activate my trap card (The GS block) which normally costs them the fight xD Though good thieves annihilate me when I’m zerks but that’s the meta lol.

Problem I feelw ith healing is that to make it worthwhile you need perma regen and or signet of the wild – though with both you do almost get a warriors healing signet plus your ungent :p
