Hey guys I’ve been trying to show my ranger some love! I main a Mes and I love roaming around in wvw. Though I tried coming up with my own ranger build and it falls very very short of my mesmer. (PU condi build) So what build would you guys recommend for a ranger that likes to roam around capping ruins and supply, that can have a good chance in a 1v1 or 2v2 situations that are so common there? I was thinking about the regen ranger but wasn’t sure. Currently I’m running the max damage build and staying back lines of the Zerg but that is god awfully boring. Help me out ranjas!

Mesmer condi build is one if not the best out there for 1v1. I doubt there is any ranger build that can match it, eventhough I would love to see if there is one.

Mesmer condi isn’t too bad to beat as a ranger. Go tanky condis of some sort. So far my most successful roaming builds has been spirits with 0/10/30/30/0 rabid, rata sum runes, sb and s/t with sun, storm, and SoR. Can 1 v 1 (I expect to win 1 v 3 with that set up) anything on open terrain. Trick with phantasmy mesmers of any sort you have to micro manage a DPS pet (drake, feline, bird) to take out their phantasms while you (the ranger) kite around and focus on the mesmer best you can. You have to micro manage like crazy but it works wonders.

There you go. I dont doubt that spirits build will be able to handle mesmer condi, though i personally would love to hear other alternative. Spirits to me just doesnt feel right, doesnt feel like i am playing ranger, but sadly we have little choice here.

A full rabid condi ranger with 2 traps and entangle and river drake can clear a camp pretty quick (unless its fully upgraded). It’s not the best roaming build because its not very survivable, but it has good condi damage. You can melt yaks with 1900+ condition damage pretty quick as well. It works against most people 1 on 1 as well just because you have so much access to conditions they cannot clear it all. I didn’t play mesmer so I don’t know your build, but I do enjoy my condi ranger a lot. If by being useful you mean slapping yaks, capping camps you can do that pretty good on a ranger. And with 1900 condition damage you can get some nice bleeds on people with AC mastery as well. I love that “oh kitten” moment when they realize that they bleed for 140+ a tick, and then they scatter like kittenroaches.

Edit: Here’s the build I run. I gotta double check my weapons because I’m just below 2k condition damage with corruption stacks.
