WvW roaming GS build that isn't BM or spirit?
Use soldiers or knights stats, or some mix of power and survivability in your gear. Zerk weapons.
You can use either signets to buff your maul, or moment of clarity, or both. Traits would be 30,30,10 or 30,20,20 or 20,30,20.
You give up a lot of sustain/dmg mitigation by not speccing bm and not using healing power gear which makes it tougher to roam solo.
trapper is solid for roaming
Yes, trapper is great for taking camps, and so is greatsword. Do you want conid damage, or power build though? If you’re fine with condi damage, try this. Alternately you could go with dwayna runes for some nice regen, and putting 10 points from MM into NM. Not sure how much heal that would be though. I don’t use the trap traits anymore, there are far better options. You could take superior eart runes as well, my only problem with geomancy is that it gets bugged in wvw. It works again if you relog, but if you stacked 25 stack of corruption, its a pain in the back.

Bunker, trapper, or berserker are the best roamer builds. Berserker is the one that relies the least on the pet, but it’s very squishy.

berserker rangers are useless, do not bother . If you want a burst DPS build , go with 20 30 20 moment of clarity build with knight armor with ruby orbs and cavalier weapons and trinkets
Valkyrie massive Maul build
For a GS build you could do a variation of Exploits build, something like that might work
is there a particular reason you like the great sword? what are you looking to get out of a build?

I prefer the longbow/gs setup as supposed to the condi apothecary for roaming. (For example)
I usually get a nice burst in before the enemy gets in close enough to me, and from there I can decide to use the greatsword to gap close or run pending their health drop.
This is because I got extremely bored of the tough/healing/cond setup and fights generally taking too long. At this point id rather fight to the death and just respawn if need be.
That being said, I did like your shout healing build. I alternate between that and the +50% to longbow build now.
as for the OP, you could use protect me, toughness signet to help out in the melee range.
This is what I am using atm, working very well so far, hard to kill good dps, generally I use a cat for dps and one other pet I swap depending on situation, atleast for me I find the biggest thing is keeping track on your cat when he’s out cause with empathic bond and 0 bm points with this little healing power he will drop fast if you don’t.
This setup you can also start bringing in some cleric armor if you want cause the perma fury already have you at about 65% crit so you can easily give some up without losing too much damage.

I’ve been trying GS in Roaming… No I don’t die unless I Decide to (which is more often than you’d expect, just b/c it’s not a serious format, not by a long shot).
But I also don’t find it Burst’able. Therefore no one else dies either unless my CC rotations are perfect and there’s a second person focusing my target with me. (which is probably how Anet has always intended PvP to work … otherwise they never would have nerfed Dagger rangers & “Palm’asins” in Gw1 … or Sniper Warriors in Beta)
I gotta agree with the people saying Valkyrie gear … Perma Fury should be standard for any stats-obsessed ranger. I gave some random Ranger from the boards here 3 goss Valk insigs just to test how it enhanced their build. I think it just makes a LOT more sense currently than Zerkers for Rangers.

I would be that ranger you gave them to, and I love em. I am using the LB/GS Zerkers/Valkerie. I can hit for 12k with LB#2 and Maul for around the same, on lvl 80 targets in wvw. Much higher on under. Also, thanks a lot to ilr, really helped me out a ton!
I will have to rethink the damage build. Went for the laughs a month ago using the zerker big initial damage build. Crit% was 60% base and crit damage was 89%. I am going to play with the idea of taking out some zerker and adding some Valkrie to get some more survivabilty
I’m new to ranger and have never liked being focused on pets (EG: I use a spectral power necro instead of minionmancer.) is there a build that uses great sword that doesn’t rely on pets, it is nice to have the pet for sure because it is added damage and is fun to have that extra threat besides just your character, but I don’t want to be totally dependent on it for my gameplay.
WARNING: This build will make you lazy and will cause EVERY thief you encounter to RAGE and just about every other profession to hightail it as far as possible away from you. As long as you learn to predict incoming burst you won’t get killed by any single player. When you die, it will be from multiple players and because they chained immobilise on you.
Primal reflexes seems unwarranted if you have the 50% + end regen because they dont stack.
I wish they did….like the thieves do. its amazing how one class gets one standard while the other gets it rough and hard.

Hey they’re getting better. Used to be the might on signet activation trait for thieves gave 5 stacks for 10 sec, and most of their signets have 30-40 sec cooldowns (50 might-seconds every ~34 sec, or a 1.48 ratio). The same trait for rangers gave 1 stack for 10 sec, and most of our signets had 120 sec cooldowns (10 might-seconds every 120 sec, a 0.08 ratio).
They lowered the signet cooldowns so they’re 30-80 sec, and now we get 3 stacks of might for 15 sec (45 might-seconds every ~57.5 sec, a 0.78 ratio). It still needs to be changed so it gives might to both the ranger and the pet to make it more equitable, but it’s still a vast improvement from the old disparity.

Cempa, I see you slot some Knight gear but in the end you have low crit chance and damage (20% both).
Do you think it is worth it to invest in precision if you are not going to take it higher than that?
Or maybe the precision should be dropped in favor of more healing power?

Tried this build and I did well against d/d ele and necro, but I got beaten pretty badly by pistol thief, my damage was simply not good enough before their range/pistol wore me off; anything that I should pay attention on against those pesky thieves? :/

I wouldn’t say just a victim it might be he doesn’t have enough critburst to kill one very easily but he’s got 4 condition cleanses every 10s and plenty of dodges so that door swings both ways, besides how many such rangers does one run into while roaming? I can say that I haven’t met a single ranger with this shout bunker spec while roaming.
Mine. Really good damage (Maul → 8-12k) with good survivability/mobility
