Especially people who claim that rangers do poorly in SPVP. Ranger is slightly under-powered in terms of the meta in tournament style PVP but I wouldn’t say by much.
No one seems to understand how fast a ranger can put pressure on a player with conditions while still having decent survivability. Not to mention that there is a build that basically leaves you unkillable, or atleast until your team members can come kill off the attackers for you.
People seriously need to start to learn how to use their pets properly, for example I use double ravens because their high damage synergizes well with my build, not to mention they seem to hit running targets a lot more efficiently.
I’m not a ranger pro or do I claim to be but you guys make it seem like the class has absolutely nothing and I strongly disagree with that.

When you play a ranger who is consistently dead, dead, dead in spvp no matter what the build or mechanics, then and only then can you say what you have…

That and some friendly guild discussion on the topic of our highest crits, shockingly 2-3 Warriors claimed their highest crits (not sure with what weapon) were between 30k and the highest of 36k … now they may have been full of crap but I don’t see why they would feel the need to lie to guildies as they laughed about how OP they felt it was.

If you are being 1shotted by a thief I’m afraid you are either using a terribly bad build or just doing it very wrong. Trap condi ranger is a STRONG counter against thieves.

I actually feel like I’m the one being trolled here. Are you so bad that you get hit by kill shot? Is that honestly something you can complain about lol. Sure I’ll understand getting hit by a backstab combo once in awhile because you aren’t ready but kitten, even when I’m in battle because of the fov I can see a warrior kneeling from miles away and avoid that.

Again, your post has been made by 100’s of users before you, including myself. Just serves no purpose to try and calm the forum storm by telling individuals they are wrong. We all agree the class is underpowered and even ArenaNet cites it as the most underpowered – Our efforts should be directed to receiving answers/corrections from ArenaNet – not QQ’ing at each other.
Well, I mean, it is an o-board.
It’s not like a fan forum, the implication of developer eyeballs makes posts less about players communicating to other players and more like players filing a complaint to the complaints department under the guise of conversation. It’s kind of the nature of the beast.
The disparity between Overpowered and Underperforming is alot less than many other MMORPGs I’ve played. So, it’s possible that ’I’m personally not having too much difficulty’ and ‘rangers are in need of the most love’ to be both be technically true at the same time. Ranger might be skirting the bottom of the barrel, but, you’re not going to feel too weak because it’s a pretty shallow barrel.

Well if you can’t tell there is a large corp’s that hates pets. I myself avoided maximizing them for too long before working on how to utilize them. Once you accept the pet mechanic and work on integrating them warts and all there are some decent options.
Masters Bond people, it’s not just for PvE it works in Tpvp with high benefit. Thanks Durzlla for posting on that… I’m a tester and I had accepted the it’s a pve trait mantra. Wrong it’s even better in PvP I think.
Arguably 10 in beastmastery is a must. Doubt I’ll play another build without at least that. It really shines at 30 BM however. And if your delivering AOE damage you get to 25 stacks pretty fast. At which point you are a force of nature or your pet is.
Embrace the pet….You are balanced around it… And it has some pretty sweet options utility and damage.
Or embrace the traps….
Or I imagine in a shaman amulet build both is conceivable….
If you can’t embrace the pet or a pure condition build the class can be a bit frustrating ATM. I still can’t embrace condition something about SB 1 spam haste drop circles annoys me. Just don’t find playing it rewarding.

Well if you can’t tell there is a large corp’s that hates pets. I myself avoided maximizing them for too long before working on how to utilize them. Once you accept the pet mechanic and work on integrating them warts and all there are some decent options.

Agreed, people don’t know the sheer power of ravens. And don’t pet swap often enough / don’t know when to pet swap. Pet swap for the quickness short burst / to get your pet in range for it’s attacks. I’ve also noticed that spamming f2 right after pet swap activates the skill more efficiently.

Yep, all you have to do is just activate the skill when your pet is not doing of their spell cast rotations (like swiftness from owls, leap from wolves, etc).

You can build on how you like to play, but I personally bunker with 30 in marksmanship (I run 3 signets) then spec the rest into regen/ vigor traits. Other options are using “protect me” but I dislike it. Make sure you get the dodge for protection trait as it synergizes with vigor extremely well. I use the 6x Lyssa runes incase I run into a dirty necro and turn all his condis into boons, but dwayna runes work extremely well too. And finally I my weapon set is GS / sword dagger. Yes great sword. GS 4 is almost too amazing now. With healing spring I have 3 leap finishers for 3x aoe healing (sword 2 comes off cooldown to do twice then GS 3)
This is just my playstyle though, trap condi tank build works amazing as well with cleric amulet, and I almost forgot I equip the cleric amulet.
Sorry for the huge clump of words, was too lazy to write it properly and organize it.

Have to agree – carrying any stun break and/or dmg immunity utilities (which is what any tpvp players would carry) negate these types of bursts quite well.

That is a valid point in that what you are essentially saying if I’m translating correctly is that if you were to turn this into an e-sport and want to maximize your teams victory chance a ranger option wouldn’t be on the team.
I consider that a true statement. But 99% of players lack the capacity to play at a truly competitive level even on a class that can perform there.
And if your a true hardcore player the current flavor class name is irrelevant it’s the ability to win that matters most you play the current class that gives you the best shot…. Just sayin.
You don’t whine how xyz class cause you really really like that archetype isn’t performing;). Archetype is irrelevant victories matter if your truly harcore.

Clearly you don’t understand the mechanics of ranger pets/shortbow. Yes of course a warrior will be on you from time to time, but they are very easy to kite. Really doesn’t matter though as kiting isn’t very useful for a point control based game except for roaming scenarios.

You have horrible logic. Many people claim that warriors are gods with “broken 100b burst” or thieves have broken back stab bursts, but like you said those work well especially against noobs too right? Great logic is great.

Their average burst against a level 80 geared doesn’t go above 10k from rifle warriors, i’ve yet to get 1 shotted by anyone and i have 15k hp :P
These kind of clips are indeed full of crap, it’s just cut scenes from killing upgraded level 80s and actually taking advantage of a bug there was with their trait increasing damage by 12% for each piercing…resulting in like 36% damage boost if i’m not wrong.
You can go WvW with ranger and also 1 shot (or nearly) random squishy players.
sPvP is completely unbalanced, there shouldn’t be this QQ about rangers on it because honestly…every single class has like ONE only viable build which means the current state of sPvP is bad. Even when rangers need plenty of fixes, sPvP balance itself needs a lot of work.

A good warrior won’t be kited in sPvP… never.
Clearly you don’t understand the mechanics of ranger pets/shortbow. Yes of course a warrior will be on you from time to time, but they are very easy to kite. Really doesn’t matter though as kiting isn’t very useful for a point control based game except for roaming scenarios.
You basically answered it yourself..

But I don’t play bow ranger and drop warriors with ease. There are some rare really good stun lock warriors I run into, but other than that I have no trouble fighting warriors.

Especially people who claim that rangers do poorly in SPVP. Ranger is slightly under-powered in terms of the meta in tournament style PVP but I wouldn’t say by much.
No one seems to understand how fast a ranger can put pressure on a player with conditions while still having decent survivability. Not to mention that there is a build that basically leaves you unkillable, or atleast until your team members can come kill off the attackers for you.
A build that leaves you basically unkillable? So you are saying rangers are gods now?
People who claim rangers are UP in spvp are exaggerating? In every post I have read in the spvp forum rating the classes in spvp rangers are ranked at the bottom by almost everyone here is a recent one, please read and educate yourself, or maybe go play some spvp with a ranger:

Your posts really make me question your intelligence, if you actually knew how to read you would notice that I agree that the class has problems and is underpowered to some extent. You fail to acknowledge the fact that people overly exaggerate how underpowered ranger is. Please get off YOUR high horse and maybe read some books. Like you said “its easy to be pro on the forums”
