Your FoTM build
Ranger’s guide to PvP/WvW: http://tinyurl.com/oht3e9z
I’m currently leveling my Ranger in PvE. Would be nice to know if there are any good FotM builds for Rangers. I’ve hear that pets dont have AR and are useless in FotM, I hope this isn’t the case.
Critical Impact [Crit]
There is good news and bad news here. The good news is that rangers can bring very solid dps to the table in fractals, by staying at long range and piercing many targets. The bad news is that it is true that pets don’t have AR, and that in many fights they aren’t as useful as they should be. As for what I run, 100% pure paper dps. That’s the advantage of the ranger, you can avoid death by being far away from it, and supply a steady stream of dps.
Also, the pet revive can be very useful.
If you are interested in the specifics of my build, let me know.
Hey there,
Like Gaiyeerishima Cat I run a pretty much full glass-cannon build in fractals, taking the quickness on pet swap with me. It has worked very well for me up to the high 30’s so far.
As for traits I use 20/25/10/0/15, taking the faster recharge on survival skills and the faster pet swap from BM. Gear is full berserker with runes of the ranger.
Utility skills: Quickening Zephyr, Search and Rescue and Sig of the Hunt/Frost Spirit
Elite: Rampage as One.
The fact that pets dont have AR is kind of annoying, but apart from the Maw I manage to keep my pets alive most of the time utilizing the lower cooldown on pet swap.
Ofcourse going full glasscannon means you will have to be able to dodge well.
Hope this helps a bit
Since pet’s don’t have AR in FotM I try to not use mine as much unless needed to tank a non-agonizing foe. My build right now for PvE/FotM is support.
30/0/30/10/0
You can switch out the traits as you wish. At the moment I have no set traits to use as I switch them up depending on the situation.
I don’t crit as much as I used to when I was full berzerker but I manage to stay alive enough to support and bring back downed allies which is key to higher level fraggles.
Though my play style is still berzerker i’m learning to use that side to side with being supportive as best as possible.
My main stats are Power/Vitality/Toughness so pretty much anything “Soldiers” will do the job. I’m still debating whether to go full Rune of Dwayna or keep the Soldier runes… but we’ll see
I mix in a few +crit just to get that extra damage when possible and I eat Peach Pies
Everyone has their own way to play Ranger and if you find one that fits your style then stick to it because right now there’s no wrong way to play ranger.

Since I am a Beast Master I tend to survive longer than anyone in the dungeon, even when jumping in front of the mob going melee. I drop traps and spike really high condition damage which helps clean large number of enemies quickly, or drops a veteran/champion’s health better than me just DPSing one target at a time. When it comes to the bosses, I stay fully ranged and use a combination of fern hound for healing swapping to jaguar for stealth + quickening zheppir for massive damage when I know the boss isn’t going to rampage all over the place. If the fight is fully ranged, I try to support everyone with my healing spring / fern hound and since I can survive the longest I tend to be on revive duty with Search and Rescue, which I found to be amazingly helpful.
As you well know being a ranger is all about that versatility. I tend to switch skills and weapons a lot depending on which fractals I am facing, but having a solid build around every scenario helps me the most. For anyone doing a tanky build I highly suggest you also get really high condition damage and use some traps where appropriate, also putting a superior rune of earth + decent crit chance will allow your shortbow to constantly deliver bleeds.
Thanks for the reply guys!
