any tips pvping thief dodge spammers?
Yes, it can be a bit tricky, but trying to time a daze or knock-back just as they land (and immediately follow up with attacks to proc your Ancient Seeds). If they are using Bound instead of Dash, then it makes it a little tougher for them to clear that immob.
I would like to point out that Daredevils don’t have infinite dodges/evades. Vault takes up tons of initiative, and endurance for bound only recharges so fast. If you can count/track how many times each was used, you can predict when they will use a skill to gain additional endurance/initiative. If you can predict that, you can also be ready to unload your own combo. Until then, just time your own defenses with their attacks. The evades may be constant, but that is also a weakness; because the attacks are so metronomic, they are easily telegraphed and predictable.
When weapons do you use? This could give me an idea on ways you can play defensively while you wait for an opening.
I’ve found that the main tactic to follow when dealing with thieves is to stay defensive if the thief is engaging you, try to look for a chance to counter attack using chained CC’s (except inmobilization) then go as offensive as possible.
Thieves main defensive skills rely on stealth or dodging, so it means that if you use the CC in the right moment they will be exposed to your or group hits, so it won’t take much to down them.
That being the general tactic advice, it will be different depending on the build and pets you like to get around (spike trap, taunts, fear, stuns for CC) plus the deffensive skills you rely on.
I run a WS, BM, NM power build, that provides a lot of deffensive skills and CCs, so I don’t have many difficulties when dealing with these thieves.
So, what build are you using mate?

I found that Point Blank shot in combination with Ancient Seeds and good timing is the best stuff you can find.
It takes skill but vast majority of thieves simply pop their heal and rotate away immediately after this successful combo.

this is the build i have been useing http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQRAnf8YnUqAlrgdrAWsCUtgFMBrZZNACAOJuFwjDum+TLqlMsKA-TphAwAFOIATeAAdOCAL3fAwJAgcZAA
i am having a lot of trouble pvping these thief’s that just dodge to kill. i looked up their build not only does the build have infinite dodging it clears a condi with each dodge witch is giving me more trouble. i have to say it is very annoying getting killed with knifes that fly out when they dodge. so in a nut shell they do not even use a skill to kill people . i was told if i hit them has soon has they land i can hurt them is this true? if so i am stupid when it comes to timeing
The condi cleanse on evade is quite OP, add lag and so on into the mix and winning a fight like that basically comes down to luck.
I switched from thief to ranger this weekend. So I’ve been looking at ranger/pet synergy and noticed some of the pets have charge attacks that knockdown. And I was wondering if you could use that in tandem with ranger attacks to trip up a thief?
I’m just getting into the class, but even though pet commands seem really clunky it kind of feels like Carl Clover from Blazblue and I dig that.
If you are talking about the condi thief it will never be meta, just annoying.
Bad Elementalist
For any thief build including d/d d/d condi-thief. You shouldn’t lose many 1 v 1’s to thieves. If it’s anything using black powder, save pb shot for when they attempt to leap through for the stealth and it’s gg.
Seeing your build, lets take the best of it.
You have an offensive weapon set (axe&torch) and a deffensive (S&D)
Your CCs are Spike Trap, Roots, Ancient seed combo, Plus wolf leap and F2.
We can take the GoEq as a deffensive skill and the serpent Trap as an offensive one.
Now, what can you do according with the tactics I proposed?
I would suggest you to use the S&D to evade initial hits, lure the thief into de Spike Trap and make him use the inmobile ignore due to Ancient seed, short after that try landing a cc with your wolf, root him then burst (switch weaps and pet, lay serpent trap, F2, etc). That might do the job, but if the thief has stun breakers, use the second cc from wolf before landing you burst. In theory if the thief can’t evade, therefore won’t be able to cleanse your condies.
I hope this helps you!
Ps: try to have your pet near you, experienced thieves usually try to make pet chase them afar, then they shadowstep back to you.
