are rangers really unuseful in end game?
yes 16 characters
Update 5.9.2013: getting better ANet, still way to go!
A Lannister always pays his debts – For everyone else, there’s Mastercard.
Rangers are still viable. We just need to work much harder to do as well as others do with less effort.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
Play what you like. Every update can turn everything upside down. Unless you like rerolling to/from new best/worst class after every major balance patch…
More on topic: Ranger is fully viable. Playing it alone, I made Dungeon Master and lvl 34 in fractals. I also played few GvG’s and regularly run in both, small and big, organized WvW groups.
Every class is viable in this game as far as PvE goes, however, some classes perform better than others.
Ranger gets jacked on some mechanics, like the laser room in Aetherblade Retreat. Theres other areas where they are useful though, for instance, I’ve 4 manned CoF with my guild thanks to a Ranger using his pet to take down the gate at the bubble part.
They do lack damage and pets need AoE damage reduction however, the recent pet damage nerf also hurt alot. Play what you want, if people tell you to leave because of your class then they aren’t the people you want to play with
Rangers running sword/greatsword DPS builds are perfectly fine.
Rangers chilling at 1500 with their longbow are completely useless.
i have a full arah set on my ranger pre nerfs to arah and my dungeon master title i got it all on my ranger all of them its do able but be prepared to be kitten on a lot of the fights.
Dragin Wind ranger of Duel
It isn’t true. Nuff said.
Meh. Pretty much everyone one this forum is a QQ omg ranger sucks cry baby. Yea, any role we can do is pretty much covered better by other classes. But it doesn’t really matter cause the only groups that won’t take you are hardcore speed runners. I get into dungeons just fine and its very easy to find groups. (Gw2lfg)

Nah. That’s only a small vocal minority. Most of us rangers know where the class stands. We can do well enough, but we have no niche that isn’t done better by others. That ain’t cryin’. It’s just realizing where we stand.
All that being said, I still main my ranger in dungeons. I prefer it’s playstyle.
Just be warned that lots of groups, even non-speedrunners, won’t take you due to the stigma the class has picked up. You don’t want those groups anyways. Plenty of other groups still will take you.

I say, if you enjoy ranger, play it. It may take time, but we’ll be fixed and brung up-to-par with the other professions eventually.
2 words 15 sec waterfield xD its nearly impossible to make organized wvw group witouth ranger
This. The eternal thread—the eternal question it seems. I’m of the opinion that ranger is powerful but many will disagree. Whatever, they’re wrong :p
Yes, while rangers don’t get that dumb reflect wall/feedback skill, they are still useful and competitive, unless you’re trying to play a WoW hunter, if so, shame on you.

Yes they do…Whirling Defense is a reflection skill.

Is not half as practical as WoR or Feedback, the area is too small, and it can’t be casted on a group of mobs incoming to the group, and it compromises the ranger.
If you enjoy the Ranger’s pet gameplay, then you’ll be fine at endgame. I’m not sure it’s necessary to invest traits in your pet (it is recommended though, beastmastery’s stat bonus is amazing), but it’s certainly worth learning how to position, when to swap, when to use their command skills, etc.
If you want to be shooty man, the man that shoots people, I’m afraid Warriors are a different profession.

What end game? There’s no such things in gw2.
I wouldn’t say Useless because the player behind the toon can make a big impact on the play of the toon itself. While I do not like the overall class play due to my desire to WvWvW in big groups, which render pets pretty useless, the class isn’t useless. We just don’t do anything any better than any other class with most doing what we do better.

Neither can wall of reflection, unless the guardian takes consecrated ground.

if PvE is your endgame. Ranger’s are the best 1 v 1 class and therefore are good for PvP endgame for a lot of people.
Am I good?… I’m good.
