is it Asura? human? Or sylvari??

It depends what is important to you.
I like wvw. My first 80 was a human ranger.

A few months into the game I leveled a Norn ranger to 80 just for snow leopard elite in wvw.

Rangers elites in wvw are pretty questionable. RaO is great for roaming 1v1s, but for large fights your pet will die to aoe too fast for it to be anything but a long stability cooldown (we have good swiftness/fury uptime already). Entangle is great as an offensive elite to stop runners/thieves or as damage if you are condition spec, but for a getaway its lackluster (if you’re close enough to an enemy force to use it, you are already dead). Healing spirit you really dont see used outside of dungeons or spvp, so being a Norn for Snow Leopard really gave my ranger a useful option where I needed one.

Bonus points: Norn female cultural armor looks great.

Obviously, asura are short and that IS a nice help in wvw too. Sylvari are cool but I think they are fairly limited in good looking armor sets and their animations are very childlike. If its just pve, I’d say race doesn’t matter.

Human Hounds of Balthazar is ridiculously OP and is also an amazing elite to use instead of the profession elites. Asura has nothing that is better, but the Norn has stealth and can give you a clean get-a-way in a tight spot. Overall, I prefer human because of the hounds and how good a human can look.

i still like norn the best there very fun to here and the tier two racial armor looks cool well mainly the shirt does the rest awww not as good but still i love born

Healing Spring is very useful in zerg fights, the water field alone is worth the blast potential. Now roaming, TU wins out.

I would say Asura if only for their access to retal from the racial abilities. Ranger’s have zero access to retaliation and Pain Inverter is very helpful in that regard. Balth Hounds hits hard, and may be good for larger fights, but in small skirmishes most players just dodge em.

It is irrelevant. Your best skills are non-racial.

Defiantly sylvari. Not only do they fit the Ranger aesthetic very well, they also have the best utility snare skill in Grasping Vines, which helps your pet hit, and an extra Fern Hound from the racial elite. It’s a lot of fun to run around in PvE with three pets, if you have both the elite Summon Sylvan Hound, and use Rune of the Ogre to get the Rock Dog.

Aside from the fact that any race will make a good ranger, I gotta say I’m partially to Charr (Even though I’m Human… Laziness, yeah!).

Lightning Reflex + Hidden Pistol anyone? Artillery Barrage?

Rampage as one is amazing simply because the duration of stability, and entangle has a situations it can be strong.

Well, this one just comes down to which one looks best to your eyes, has the most entertaining personal story options, fits the name you’re thinking of, etc.

There are a few racial skills in this game, and one could say… they have perks to some classes.

Do you want a robot to get into and smash face with? Asura.
Do you want to apply a random condition and get a random boon? Human
Do you want an AoE regen over time heal that is nearly identical to one already in the class? Sylvarri. But you also get to RP ERPing and pretend you’re an elf.
Do you want to summon two allies to help you out in a pinch? Charr
Do you want to yell out “Form of… a panther!” and become a jaguar for a bit? Norn.

My ranger is human because she got slated before launch by me to be a carryover from GW1. Same name and a similar took to my GW1 Elonan Ranger. My GW1 ranger mostly used a pink flamingo (Named EddyVanH) and a Croc (SteveIrwin) – pets chosen for… silly reasons… and I had planned to have a flamingo here as well, before learning it wasn’t an option (Moa is NOT the same).

But once the character was made, I liked it, so I kept that and got more sensible in pet choice.

Im pretty biased towards asura, but on my Condi-gen Ranger i use lightning reflexes,The Asura Rad field and the regen sigil and it works wonders. So when i get jumped i pop engangle+Torch 5+ Rad field+ Drake Ltn Breath….it is Super gnarley!
