I was wondering if there is a Ranger build without a pet ? I know Necromancers can run around without minions and wondering if Rangers have that same ability. I’ve never played Ranger because I didn’t want a pet always following me around and doing all the work. Just a curious question for any experienced Rangers out there.

The pet for the ranger is the class mechanic, as opposed to necromancer minions being skills. The ranger pet will always be there. You can put it on passive or let it die or choose to ignore it, but it will always be there.

Boughmaster – Necromousy – Furfriend – Sapterfuge
The Rescuer – Smoke And Flowers – Nectar Protector – Dhuumwind –
Specter Protector – Pushed Daisies – Imprinted – Die Groundlings

short answer; NO
long answer; NO

Ranger is the pet class. You just gotta deal with it or roll something else.

Lv 80 Guard, Ranger, Ele, Thief, warr, engi

Thanks for the quick replies. If I ever get around to making a medium armor class character I’ll roll thief. Not a big fan of the pet. And thanks for breaking down the difference between minions and pets for me, appreciated.

No problem, pets are definitely not for everyone. Thief is pretty fun to play, good luck!

As they said, no you cant get rid of your pet.

You can chose to not trait into it, and pick a relatively “hands off” pet, such as spiders, and then just ignore them to do their thing, but you’re always going to get the most out of them and the class by at least paying some attention to your pet.

I dont think you are in much danger of your pet doing all the work for you, though :P
