i know its been said before, many times, but after trying druid in beta3 to see how the playstyle is firsthand….all i can say is he holds the staff like a hammer, like the way a revenenant/daredevil uses its MELEE STAFF, druid staff is range and its support so is this gonna get changed, its really annoying to look at.
Yeah, it looks horrendous for a support character, like I should be bashing someone’s face in.. Really hope they change this animation :\
Haha, i’m probably the only one, but i’m loving it. It looks savage, wild, violent. Like a primitive shaman that you don’t kitten with, especially when he’s got a big heavy stick in his hands.
I think it looks fine. I mean it’s not the same as a spell caster’s stance but it makes sense because we actually use the staff to cast the beams where as most casters auto attack comes from their actual hand.
To me it looks like my ranger is holding a hammer, not a staff. I also dont like the auto cast animation. What would be great at some point is a choice between 2 sets of animations.
from the animation on staff 1, it feels like im holding up a staff like a sacrifice… just looks terrible
I agree, the autoattack animation looks awkward as hell to me.
I like it…
its the same as Rev…
Hmm, well for the auto attack there’s only so many animations they have to choose from unless they schedule an animator to make another. Either the sunray shoots from the tip of the staff or the character’s finger.
Idle stance-wise I’d probably prefer the caster stance too. Like the guardian / mesmer / ele.
Well, I guess it’s a matter of perspective, I’m actually enjoying the way my druid holds its staff because it’s different from what I’ve seen before.
On sylvary/human female the idle animation is really cringeworthy >_> I really hope they change it to basic spellcaster type.
For some reasons, my staff Norn Druid can turn her head way over her shoulders as though she is an owl while in combat.
Prior to the beta, I actually liked the way the staff was held and thought it made perfect sense. The Druid’s main / basic form of attack is a two-handed staff blast, as opposed to other caster classes who typically shoot their basic attacks out of their free hand, so it makes sense they’d hold the staff with 2 hands when idle as well. Less effort and quicker to be holding the staff 2-handed and simply lower it into position for the blast than to pull it over, grab it with the second hand, and shoot.
However, now that I’ve actually played with it… it doesn’t make sense at all, because the Druid ends up flipping the staff 180 degrees from the neutral stance in order to fire the laser blast. Which is actually less natural than the normal caster idle would be. They’d need to make your character hold the staff in the opposite hand to make it natural as I was imagining it to be.
At least that’s the case on Asura. I know all the races have different animations, so maybe others aren’t quite as backwards.
However, if it is backwards for everyone, then yah. I’d advocate just using the normal casting idle instead.
Im waiting for Reapers to hold their scythes from behind their knees, or warriors to wield their swords on their foot…
Thats how ridiculous the animation appears
It’s pretty bad. I really hope they fix it. The awkward hunched neck craning posture is unsightly, IMO.
I am glad I am not the only one that feels this way. Bor being a ranged character with dainty themed skills (and sparkles all about the staff etc), holding the staff like it is a club looks beyond silly.
Druid idle animation for staff is so… eh. It’s like wielding a hammer when it should be a staff.
Also, the Druid auto attack depends on race. Only the Asura do the auto attack right, all the other races hold the staff up above their head oddly. The Asura point it forward and fire from the hip like a boss.
Indeed, idle looks like you are going to hit someone with the staff, rather than laser them to death untill a minor bruise appears. For Norn, I would really like the Norn male Ele idle pose. It has that whole ’I’m a Norn and you will regret that remark about Chauncey von Snuffles III’kitten’ attitude going on.
As for skill 1, I don’t like the pose either, but I also don’t have an idea about what it should be. Just tried some things in the garage with a broom (yes I did, deal with it), but nothing really seemed like the real thing. Only thing I could’t try, for some reason, is the Mesmer’s floating greatsword pose. Perhaps something like that would work.
Agreed with OP, staff stance is horrible, soon as I equipped a staff and saw it I was like “ewwww”
don’t worry about the staff. druid itself as a class is bad…

I am happy with the traits at least, but yeah other than that it still needs a lot of tweaks/reworks, but the core idea is a great one.
