favorite pet and why?
Siamoth.
The majority of even the Ranger population (let alone non-Rangers) has no idea what it does.
Saladtha (Lv 80 salad sidekick to bears) | Dunelle (Lv 80 eviscerating muppet)
Karmell (Lv 80 human might dispenser) | Vast says hi~.
I agree siamoth gives stealth which is an amazing advantage, but for me I have to say jaguar no doubt is the best pet in the game. 6 seconds of stealth is huge especially when the jaguar crits while in stealth mode.
I recently started using reef drake, and I kind of like him too.
The stealth from siamoth can be stolen and is only 3 secs as far as I know. It is a unique utility but I just don’t like it. I love cats. I’ve used each type in various builds and the damage is just insane, I hit a 10k (4k and 6k on 4 skill) earlier today. Its amazing. I also like the blast finisher and f2 on river drake. It’s a tough choice really, I’m not even mentioning pets I used to not be able to go without. (devourers, spiders, canines.) If I had to pick a fav though I would say jag. So much damage, and won’t be targeted because of stealth. On burst, he is like having a thief with you.
For pve: Devourer. For wvw: Leopard. For Spvp: Wolf. Overall my fav is wolf cuz i like to make people walk off of cliffs with Fear.
1. I spend most of my time in WvW and NOT rolling with a zerg.
2. I enjoy not getting torn apart by thieves, so I go quasi-bunker with my spec.
3. I enjoy killing people, so I need to be able to hurt them somehow.
4. The last statement of Jazenn’s statement is correct.
Therefore:

Jaguar, definitely agree, at least for PVP and WVW. And I do the exact same thing as you, bunker build, usually I roam and flip camps. Especially when you trait the 30% increased crit damage for pets, the Jaguar literally bursts like a mini-GS warrior under stealth, especially with quickness, it’s absolutely ridiculous, and I love it.
Usually, I roam about with my other cat pet out, if I get into a fight, I snare them either through offhand dagger or sword, and then bring out the jaguar and utilize the 2s of quickness to burst them.
For PVE though, Reef drake/ Ice drake. Especially the reef drake, love his skills, and I love his look. He has a blue tongue
It really is a shame they didn’t have like an albino jaguar clone in the HOM instead of say, the rainbow jellyfish (which is still the same as the blue jellyfish in every way.) Being able to run with dual jaguar would be god mode.
dual jaguar? wait you can have two pets at once?
I’m currently playing PvE with Owl/River Drake. The ‘quickening screech’ is fairly useful and even without F2 the Drake can solo most mobs. (lay out a bonfire and let him use his blast finisher… enough said)
I cut my gaming teeth on Adventure&ZorkI,II,III.

Love the damage

Love the porcine pets when in melee PvE. Their Foraged items are awesome, plus they are hearty & have a finisher attack. (Only wish their Foraged items weren’t so clunky to use and steal-able!)
Also love my Fern Hound. Trusty guy has been with me since the beginning & I love his F2.
Haven’t played lately (broken computer) but I can’t wait to try out all the Jaguar burstiness I’ve been reading about.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
PvE River and Marsh Drakes, extremely hardy, AoE damage out the wazoo blast finishers. Easy mode
PvP Jaguar and Lynx when I am looking for a little more burst solo roaming. Otherwise if I am in a part I pack wolve and alpine wolf for CC. Other advantage of the wolves is they are pretty sturdy and can typically make it inside the other teams zerg line.
This all taken, from a full 30 BM build. Results may vary for those who refuse to trait into pets.
Wolf + Drakehound.
AoE fear and immobilize and knockdown in chain. Dmg is decent.
I love my reef drake, he’s a beast. The skill set is awesome, and I agree that they look spectacular (I love running around with him and my mini reef drake). I have a full 30 BM build, and he can handle just about anything. I use him everywhere except in dungeons, where I run two devourers. I don’t care for the bears, and the devourers tend to survive remarkably well. Sometimes I like to use the wolf, fearing is fun.
All in all, I like drakes and devourers, but the reef drake is definitely my favorite.
The Rescuer – Smoke And Flowers – Nectar Protector – Dhuumwind –
Specter Protector – Pushed Daisies – Imprinted – Die Groundlings
I love the Owl.
5 seconds chill, swiftness, leap finisher, precision, and pretty good survivability. It’s a very well rounded pet.

I like the snow leopard and owl, if you trait them for longer conditions you can pretty much perma chill :]
But all time fav is shark, cuz sharks are boss!
jellyfish
if only that thing could walk, no one would ever dare to call rangers weak :S
River drake. In the end I always comes back to him. Too bloody useful.
For PvE > Salamander drake is my main as he got powerful AOE damage and the strongest F2 skill , got blue Moa for healing and protection ( when I be in danger ).
As for aquatic pets , got shark as main and rainbow jellyfish ( when be in danger too ).
guard ,nades eng ,Trap thief \ranger ,signet\shout warrior, zerk mes\ele & shiro rev.
Raven. A fast-recharging Blind and an even faster-recharging Whirl finisher. But, then, I’m weird.
Raven/Snow Owl if I’m looking for some burst. Must find me a jaguar still…
For Dungeons, drake/drake. The blast finishers are too useful to pass up inside healing spring. Toss in a weapon leap finisher and it’s a lot of healing even in levelling gear.
Occasionally I’ll bring in a Polar bear if I just need the thing to survive for some reason, or fern hounds and moas for buff duty.
Jaguar → f2 + QZ with 30% extra crit damage is fun too
